Assessment Week: Throughout the academic year, there are opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning of the subject areas covered within the IPC/IMYC and the Cambridge IGCSE programmes of study.In accordance with the Assessment and Evaluation Policy for Pearling Season International School, KS3 (Years 7-9) and KS4 (Year 10) students are required to complete a formal summative examination within each subject. The purpose of the assessment is to measure your child’s progress over a given period of time as well as to re-evaluate the curriculum and inform planning as appropriate for Term 2. The final grade will be based on your son or daughter’s performance, which is a measure of progress based on the most important learning objectives of the curriculum. This assessment, coupled with the formative assessments, will be shared with you at the Parent Teacher Conference scheduled to take place on Wednesday 12th April. Assessment week will commence on Sunday 26th March for the entire week until Thursday 30th March, 2017. The results of the assessments will be issued on Tuesday 11th April in the end-of-term Reports Cards.Arabic assessments have already started, in-line with the Ministry of Education and Curriculum Guidance.

Year 9 Options Consultation Evening :Year 9 students are at the start of the process of selecting their IGCSE options for Year 10. The options evening will provide a valuable opportunity for you and your child to find out about various subjects, future qualifications and potential career pathways that are available to them. Subject specialist will be available from each of the option subjects as well as the core subjects Maths, English and Science. You will be able to talk to these teachers about what the subjects entail and this will help you and your child to make an informed choice. Therefore, I would like to invite you to attend our Year 9 Options Consultation Evening on Wednesday 29th March, 2017 at 05:30 pm. The students will have a final form on which to make their choices, which must be returned to their tutors by Sunday 9th April 2017.

Enrolment for the Academic Year 2017/18:Enrolment for the next academic year is now open. It’s never too late to book and reserve your child’s place. Act now to avoid disappointment.

Homework club is going well. The club is open Sunday to Wednesday 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm each week during the school term. All KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4 students who enrolled before the cut-off date (Wednesday 15th March, 2017) are welcome to attend. Daily homework, reading, study skills and class projects will be the focal points. If you enrolled after Wednesday 15th March, your child’s name will be placed on the waiting list.

InsideOut:PSI School is extremely happy to announce that it has joined in partnership with a local Sports and Education Specialist delivery company, InsideOut. InsideOut offers a range of projects for the local community and aim to develop the physical, mental and social health and wellbeingof individuals. InsideOut will be based at PSI School and will deliver all new projects on the school site. To support the delivery, and ensure it is of the highest possible standard, staff from PSI School will be involved in the teaching of the Education projects. Mindful eating in March

Tips to increase your child’s awareness when eating:

Ask them how hungry they are before a meal. Allow them to serve themselves, this will allow them to become familiar with appropriate serving sizes. Eat without distractions such as the television or computer. Wait 15 minutes after eating to decide if they are still hungry for seconds (it takes about 15 minutes for your brain to register if you’re full or not).

Week Without Walls (WWW)

I would like to say a BIG thank you to all the staff, parents and Student Council members involved in the

organisation of the activities during the WWW. Through your hard work, enthusiasm and

dedication, the WWW was a phenomenal success. The themes of Culture and Tradition, Adventure and

Challenge, Art and Creativity, Environmental and Resolution were covered by numerous activities

such ascamping in the dessert and kayaking, to name but a few.

I personally believe that every child and young person should experience the world beyond the

classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development,

whatever their age, ability or circumstances. Providing students with high quality

learning activities, in relevant situations beyond the walls of the classroom,

is vital for helping students appreciate their first-hand experiences

from a variety of different perspectives. Experiences outside the classroom

also enhances learning by providing students with

opportunities to practice skills of enquiry, values analysis, and clarification

and problem solving, in everyday situations. Such experiences stay

with them into adulthood and affect their behaviour, lifestyle and work. They influence the values and the decisions

they make.

PSI School Celebrates International Diversity!

The PSI Community came through with flying colours on International Day, celebrating national culture and diversity in an explosion of colour, history, song,

dance, taste and sheer national pride. We had a vibrant school-wide assembly to kick-start the day, representing over 50 nationalities that make up the school

community. This was followed by the fantastic display of 14 national and regional booths set up by parents and staff. These included Algeria,

the Americas (Canada, Venezuela and USA), Continental Europe (Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Poland,

Spain and Sweden), Egypt, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar and the United Kingdom.

Each showcased their distinct customs, traditions, clothing, ornaments, food, arts and iconic facts, all artfully displayed to share

each country’s charm and wonder with PSI School’s students and visitors.

There were activities set up to engage the public in the theme of internationalism, which included face painting of their own national flags, henna designs, a chopstick challenge, Arabic calligraphy writing of visitors’

names, and other age-appropriate art and craft activities run by staff volunteers and artists.

PSI School Celebrates International Diversity!

PTA CornerThe final instalment was a celebration of national music and dance, with an

incredible variety of performances done by students, from Arabic poetry and ballet to songs in different languages and of international themes.

A professional African drum artist, Mr. P, was also invited to perform an interactive African drum session with a laughing

and clapping audience. We want to thank all those who spent their time and effort making this event a success,

including all the wonderfully eager parents, the amazingly talented students, the reliably charismatic Student Council, committed teachers and teacher assistants,

the efficient support staff, and our students and visitors who made the most of what was on offer. Most especially, we would like to thank Ms. Alessia for her

perseverance and talent in organising most of the dance and song performances, Ms. Asma and Ms. Manal for showcasing the delightful Arabic talent,

Ms. Forbes for her class’ engaging performance and Mr. Lucas for his extraordinary IT expertise.It was an

incredible day to celebrate national pride and identity, and to showcase our diversity at its best. We hope you all took

كان ناجحا بصورة استثنائية، عمل فيه اجلميع بكل جهد وتفان ·خراج براâه وانشطته ¡ قالب بديع أضاء

أركان مدرستنا بكل ألوان التنوع الثقا¡ وأشرقت فيه إبداعاتهم. رحالت تعليمية ممتعة جاب

فيها التالميذ أماكن عديدة كالصحراء كما لعبوا رياضة التجديف وتعلموا أيضا أهمية احلفاظ على البيئة.

رؤيتنا التعليمية ال تغفل أهمية أن يتعدى التعليم فصول الدراسة إ� عواö أرحب ينهل منها التالميذ -

دون استثناء- علوما ومعارف جديدة تغذي شخصياتهم وتقويها. فالتعليم املتميز ال ينبغي أن يكون أساسه احلفظ والتلقني داخل الفصول بل معايشة الواقع واستخدام مصادره املعرفية

واملعلوماتية اخملتلفة واملتنوعة ومن ثم ترجمة كل ذلك إ� تطبيقات واقعية يستفاد منها عمليا.املقدرة على التحليل القيمي وجتاوز العقبات واختبار احللول

املمكنة هي مهارات تكتسب وت�اكم منذ الطفولة وتبقى حلني النضج والرشد وتعني على اتخاذ القرارات الصائبة والسلوك احملمود والفهم املتقدم. كل ما ذكر يتطابق مع ا�هداف التعليمية التي يرمى إليها املنهج

الدوÅ للمرحلة االبتدائية كالتعاون وتعزيز مهارات التواصل وتنمية الشخصية.

احتفال مدرسة بي اس آي باليوم العاملي للتنوعجاء االحتفال بذاك اليوم ¡ شكل زاهي ورائع.

بداية اليوم كانتبتجمع املشاركني ¡ مكان واحد أعقبهنشاطات وبرامجÝتمع املدرسة مبا ميثله من أكâ ¡ عكستالتنوع الثقا¡ والتعدد العرقي

من ÉË بلدا، فالكل عكس ثقافته سواء ¡ عروض قدمت أو أناشيد ومأكوالت شعبية تشاركوها فيما بينهم.

من النشاطات التي شهدها االحتفال، قيام ممثلني عن ÌÜ بلدا بتنظيم معارض مصغرة متثل بلدانهم ومن تلك البلدامناليزيا، اجلزائر، إندونيسيا، الباكستان، مصر، قطر، كندا، فنزويال، جمهورية التشيك، الدمنارك، أملانيا، بولندا، السويد،

الهند، الفلبني، إيرلندا، اململكة املتحدة، اليونان، فرنسا والفلبني. كل ممثل عن هذه الدول قدم ما يعكس ثقافتهم وعاداتهم

وتقاليدهم با·ضافة إ� مأكوالت شعبية من تلكم البلدان.شارك احلضور ¡ الكثÕ من ا�نشطة ال�فيهية التي ناسبت

كل ا�عمار فكان هناك رسم للحناء وتلوين للوجوه إ� جانب ألعاب أخرى، وبرامج فنية ساهم فيها فنانون وعاملون باملدرسة.

أختتم اليوم بعرض موسيقي وغنائي للتالميذ تعددت فيه لغات ا�داء كما قيلت ا�شعار وقرعت الطبول بإيقاعات إفريقية.

نشكر كل من ساهم ¡ إجناح هذا االحتفال مبن فيهم من آباء وأمهات وعاملني ومتطوعني وتالميذ مبدعني كما نشكر âلس التالميذ

الذي أثبت قدرته على حتمل مسئولية ما يوكل إليه من عمل كما نشكر بشكل خاص كل من شرفنا باحلضور. شكر خاص نبعثه إ� السيدة/

أليسيا لتنظيمها النشاط الفني وكذلك املعلمتني منال وأسماء من قسم اللغة العربية واملعلمة فوربس واملعلم لوكاس كلهم ساهموا ¡ إبراز

مواهب التالميذ.كان يوما جديرا باالحتفال ونتمنى أن يظل عالقا بأذهاننا.
