2. What are the pressures and reasons for introducing Environmental management in Bussiness.

During last few decades the concept of sustainable development has established itself as an important concept not only at global level but also at corporate level. It is not simply about reducing the amount of waste produce or using less energy, but is concerned with developing

processes that will lead to businesses becoming completely sustainable in the future.

Businesses can potentially cause damage to all areas of the environment. Some of the common environmental concerns include:

Damaging Prime Agricultural And Cultivated Land Through The Use Of Unsustainable Farming Practices.

Polluting The Atmosphere Through The Burning Of Fossil Fuels Polluting And Over-Fishing Of Oceans, Rivers And Lakes Damaging Rainforests And Woodlands Through Logging And Agricultural

3. Advantages and Disadvantages

I. Health and Safety

Environmental laws protect the health and safety of humans and the environment. For example, the Clean Air Act limits emissions of pollutants, and the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act prohibits dumping of waste into U.S. ocean waters without a permit. (See References 1 and 4) Without such laws, businesses and individuals might do whatever was most convenient or cost-effective for them, rather than acting for the good of society and the environment.

II. Innovation

Stricter environmental laws tend to increase innovative environmentally friendly technology, The demand for sustainable technology rises as companies and individuals must follow stricter environmental regulations, leading researchers and clean energy entrepreneurs to focus on developing such technologies. Ultimately, this increases the prominence of sustainable technologies, making them more accessible.

III. Costs

Businesses may see certain EMS in a negative light if they must adapt their practices and increase spending to comply with regulations. Individuals may feel inconvenienced by particular laws as well, such as a new law against fishing in a favorite spot. Conducting a cost-benefit analysis of EMS often proves challenging, as negative effects of not implementing these laws -- such as death, illness and ecosystem destruction -- cannot always be easily quantified in monetary terms. However, becoming more environmentally friendly may actually save businesses and individuals money in the long term, particularly by reducing waste and energy usage, despite the cost of the initial investment.

IV. OversightsEMS that impose regulations without considering their impacts on local communities come with a serious disadvantage: lack of local support. For example, a law that commands people to stay out of a protected natural area, without recognizing that people rely on this ecosystem for their own daily needs, may not only constitute a human rights violation, but may actually backfire, says the Center for International Forestry Research

V. Improved Public ImageBy implementing an EMS, company will prevent pollution, preserve natural resources, and reduce or mitigate environmental risks -- and it will create an environmentally-friendly image with different stakeholders. As a result, company will enhance customers’ trust, attract new customers, enter new markets and enhance employee morale. A survey concluded that customer and community pressures triggered most companies’ adoption of environmental management plans.

safety, improve cost-effectiveness, productivity and working conditions, prolong the useful life of fossil fuels, avoid unnecessary expenditure, prevent related emissions to the environment. Presently the companies and departments are focusing on bringing green flavor in their products, management policies, and programmes in order to attract the customers. The Green advertising which is a new concept in advertising has shown tremendous acceptance in the public. Many companies and industries are looking into the idea of going green which can help them to concentrate on consumer more as he is showing interest in everything that is green, in food, echo friendly appliances, organic food and even paying attention to greenery environment.
