    GoverningSystem

    Presbyterian (no one person or groupwithin the Church has more influenceor say than any other).Courts:Local Level (the Parish): KirkSession. Consist of elders presided

    over by a minister.District Level: Presbytery. Consists ofall the ministers in the district and anequal number of elders, along withmembers of the diaconate.National Level: Highest Court of theKirk, the General Assembly. Consistsof around 400 ministers, 400 elders,and members of the diaconate, allrepresenting the presbyteries.

    The Church of England is episcopallyled (there are 108 bishops) andsynodically governed.

    Its organized into two provinces; eachled by an archbishop (Canterbury forthe Southern Province and York for theNorthern).

    Each province is built from dioceses (43in total), and each diocese is dividedinto parishes.

    Has a legislative body: the GeneralSynod. It is elected from the laity andclergy of each diocese and meets inLondon or York at least twice annuallyto consider legislation for the good ofthe Church.

    Three houses: of Bishops, of Clergyand of Laity.

    The polity of the Church in Walesis Episcopalian Church governance,which is the same as other Anglicanchurches.

    The Governing Body is thesupreme legislature of the Church inWales. It consists of three orders:Bench of Bishops (that is, the six

    diocesan bishops), the Clergy andthe Laity

    The Church in Wales is divided intosix distinct geographical areas, ordioceses. Each diocese is lookedafter by a Bishop and is a distinctadministrative unit.

    Representative Body: Responsiblefor the care of the Church's propertyand for funding many of the activitiesof the Church, including support forpriests' stipends and pensions.

    organized on an all-Ireland basiswhich includes both Northern

    Ireland and the Republic of Ireland Organized into four ecclesiastical

    Clergy: clerics are ordained in theAnglican Church and serve in the

    Church looking after a parish. Bishop: chief pastor in his

    diocese, has a key role to play inthe government of the Church

    Archbishop: chief pastor for theChurch in Wales. First-amongst-equals in relation to his fellowbishops.

    Church in Wales does not ordainwomen to the episcopacy

    According to the 2001 UK census, Christianity is the major religion, followed by Islam, Hinduism, Jediism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism in terms ofnumber of adherents.
