Rev 2.17 Associate Board Overview Term: January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019 Overview The Associate Board assists the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission to achieve its mission to “measurably enhance the economy, image and quality of life in the Greater Cleveland community by attracting and creating significant sporting events and activities”. The Associate Board is comprised of passionate advocates for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and the City of Cleveland. Selected through a competitive process, the Associate Board meets quarterly and is responsible for developing and executing an annual fundraiser in partnership with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. Associate Board members are selected for one two- year term, and may serve up to three two-year terms. Mission The Associate Board furthers the advancement of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission through the generation of ideas, advocacy and the execution of an annual fundraiser. Associate Board Benefits Opportunity to enhance the economy, image, and quality of life in the Greater Cleveland community through sporting events and activities. Network with Greater Cleveland Sports Commission Board of Directors and staff. Better understanding of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, its goals and current projects. Overview The Associate Board assists the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission to achieve its mission to “measurably enhance the economy, image and quality of life in the Greater Cleveland community by attracting and creating significant sporting events and activities”. The Associate Board is comprised of passionate advocates for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and the City of Cleveland. Annual Dues Associate Board members are required to pay annual dues of $1,000 (personal or corporate contribution). Partial scholarship is available on an as-needed basis. Details about scholarship will be provided after applications have been reviewed and new members are selected. Terms Members can serve up to three (3) two-year terms. Executive Committee

• Nominated Positions o Chair-Elect – Rachel Ciomcia, Cleveland Leadership Center o Vice Chair – TBD o Co-Chairs of standing committees

▪ Community Engagement Committee –Eric Brooks, Proforma ASAP & TBD ▪ Awareness Committee –Joe Roszak, Cleveland Metroparks & TBD

• Executive Committee manages all issues related to governance. COMMITTEES Every Associate Board member is expected to join a sub-committee and attend the majority of sub-committee meetings. Awareness Committee The Awareness Committee is responsible for planning a series of engagement and awareness events for emerging leaders in Cleveland. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Creating and managing 2-4 YP events intended to promote the GCSC brand, provide exclusive Cleveland sports experiences, and grant rare access to Cleveland sports venues and locales. Events will be financially self-sustaining.

• Advocating on behalf of the Sports Commission and associated events.

• Generating and executing new ideas to promote GCSC events/activities, especially from a social media standpoint.

Community Engagement Committee The Community Engagement Committee identifies ways in which the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission can develop unique initiatives to connect with the Greater Cleveland community through the hosting of events. The Chair(s) are responsible for overseeing the Community Engagement Committee in pursuit of the following goals:

• Developing ideas to link GCSC events with community resources to maximize event impact.

• Deploying community outreach activities at select GCSC events.

• Developing legacy and programming ideas that leave a meaningful impact on the community.

• Leading fundraising efforts for outreach programs.

Associate Board Statement of Expectations

1. Commit to the mission and goals of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. 2. Attend meetings of the Associate Board: Four meetings are scheduled each year. Board members are expected

to attend all four meetings. 3. Serve on at least one committee and attend meetings: Board members are expected to attend/participate in

most meetings of the committees on which they serve. 4. Annual contribution: Associate Board members are expected to pay annual dues of $1,000 (personal or

corporate contribution) to the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission each year. Financial assistance is available. Separate application required.

5. Sell tickets and/or sponsorship for the annual fundraising event. 6. Represent the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission: Be familiar with and speak on behalf of the Sports

Commission when appropriate. 7. Disclose any potential conflict of interest with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. 8. Refrain from discussing or sharing confidential information with non-Board or Associate Board members.

I understand that if I am selected to serve on the Associate Board of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, I will be

held accountable to the expectations above on an annual basis.

I understand that applying does not guarantee acceptance. New members will be elected by the current Associate Board Executive Committee based on the applicant’s questionnaire, resume, experiences, letters of recommendation, and/or interview. Space is limited.
