Promoting Psychology In The Evolving Healthcare Landscape: Enhancing The Well-Being Of Patients, Providers, And Populations Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers ● March 9 - 11, 2017 ● Detroit, MI

Dr. Zeeshan Butt is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the Departments of Medical Social Sciences, Surgery (Division of Organ Transplantation), & Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In his clinical role, he provides psychological evaluation and treatment at Northwestern’s Comprehensive Transplant Center. His research focuses on the development and application of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in the post-surgical context, with an eye towards improved care quality. As the Associate Director of the Center for Patient-Centered Outcomes, Dr. Butt provides mentorship and guidance to faculty interested in patient-driven research. He also leads the Quality of Life Workgroup of the Northwestern University Transplant Outcomes Research Collaborative (NUTORC) to foster multidisciplinary, patient-centered research and to provide mentorship to postdoctoral fellows in this area. His own research has been funded by NIH, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and industry grants and contracts. At the local level, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4). At the national level, Dr. Butt was recently selected to serve on the PCORI Advisory Panel on Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options. He is on the editorial boards of the journals American Psychologist, Journal of Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings, and serves as an Associate Editor of Psychological Assessment. He is a board member of the Society for Health Psychology and President-Elect of the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers. Dr. Butt also had recent leadership roles within the American Psychological Association and the American Society of Transplantation.

Jared L. Skillings, PhD, ABPP Chief, Behavioral Medicine Spectrum Health System Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Surgery, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine

Dr. Jared L. Skillings is a licensed psychologist and Chief of Behavioral Medicine for the Spectrum Health System, with leadership responsibility for psychology and social work. During his 4+ years of service, the system has successfully grown from five behavioral health providers to over forty, with a multi-million dollar budget. Clinically, Dr. Skillings provides pre-surgical psychological evaluations for organ transplantation and bariatric surgery. He is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Surgery at the Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Skillings became the first early career psychologist in the U.S. to be triple board-certified (Clinical Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, and Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology). His current professional leadership roles include Chair of the APA’s Board of Professional Affairs (BPA), President-elect of the Michigan Psychological Association (MPA), and Board Member for the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Dr. Skillings completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toledo, with an internship in health psychology at the University of Miami (FL) Medical School/Jackson Memorial Hospital. His fellowship was in primary care psychology with Michigan State University. He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife of 16 years, Julie, and their four adopted children: Jonathan, Anthony, Violet, and Hope (ages 6, 7, 8, and 9).

Wendy L. Ward PhD, ABPP Director of Interprofessional Faculty Development, Associate Director of Faculty Affairs, Associate Director of Wellness, University of Arkansas Medical Sciences

Wendy L. Ward, Ph.D., ABPP is a Professor and Associate Director of the Section of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics (DOP) at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences College of Medicine (COM). She coordinates the inpatient consultation/liaison service for a large children’s hospital, and outpatient psychology services integrated within 32 pediatric subspecialty clinics. Dr. Ward serves her institution as Associate Director of the Interprofessional Faculty Wellness program and the Director of Interprofessional Faculty Development.

Cheryl Ann King, PhD Director, Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI) Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, University of Michigan Chief Psychologist, Department of Psychiatry University of Michigan Medical School

Dr. Cheryl King is a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology, and Director of the Mary A. Rackham Institute at the University of Michigan. As Director of the Youth Depression and Suicide Research Program, she has provided leadership for multiple federally funded research initiatives focused on developing evidence-based strategies for adolescent and young adult suicide risk screening, assessment, and intervention. These include two current NIMH-funded multi-site studies, Emergency Department Screen for Teens at Risk for Suicide (ED-STARS) and Electronic Bridge to Mental Health for College Students (eBridge), in addition to a recently completed CDC-funded effectiveness trial for youth at elevated risk for suicide. Dr. King has published widely on youth suicide prevention and has conducted workshops worldwide on best practices in suicide risk assessment and intervention. She is an author of the recently published book, Teen Suicide Risk: A Practitioner Guide to Screening, Assessment, and Management. In addition, Dr. King has provided testimony in the U.S. Senate on youth suicide prevention and is a Past President of the American Association of Suicidology, the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, and the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.

Jessica Barber, PhD Clinical Health Psychologist Coordinator, Clinical Health Psychology Internship Track Director, Psychosocial Oncology Service VA Connecticut Healthcare System – West Haven Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Psychology Yale Medical School

Dr. Jessica Barber is a licensed clinical psychologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System - West Haven (VACHS-WH) in the Health Psychology Service. She is also an Associate Clinical Professor in the Yale Medical School, Department of Psychology. In her clinical role, she provides services at VACHS in Mental Health Primary Care and in the Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is the founder of the Psychosocial Oncology Program at VACHS-WH, and she serves as the Psychosocial Services Coordinator to the Cancer Center and on Cancer Committee. Dr. Barber is heavily involved in education and training within the psychology service and within the medical center more broadly. She serves on the training committee for the APA accredited Postdoctoral Residency in Clinical Health Psychology, and she is the track coordinator for the APA accredited Predoctoral Internship, Health Psychology Track. She is also a certified TEACH facilitator, which is a VA Central Office-mandated course for medical providers. Her research focuses on the integration of mental health services within medical settings and weight management/obesity. She recently served as a co-editor for the Society of Health Psychology (Division 38) website.
