AST/AMSProgram This certificate program enables international students to:

strengthen their written and oral English skills learn basic automotive technical knowledge and mechanical reasoning skills become familiar with western academic style and culture

Upon successful completion of Dorset College's Certificate in Automotive Service Technician Studies, students are guaranteed transfer to the Automotive Service Technician (AST) Program at University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

At the University of the Fraser Valley students will enroll in a 34 weeks program in preparation for work in Canadian automotive dealerships and repair shops, as well as fleet maintenance, and work in shops that specialize in exhaust, brakes, transmission/drive train, and tune-ups. Upon successful completion of the UFV’s AST program students are eligible to apply for apprenticeship programs through UFV to streamline entry into the Canadian workforce.

AST Program

The Certificate in Automotive Service Technician Studies at Dorset College is a 650 hours/ 30.53 week long program that consists of specially designed courses in Automotive Science, Technical Communication, English Interactions, and Oral Fluency.

Admission RequirementsAcademic: High school diploma or equivalentEnglish: English 12 or equivalent

The Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Studies (AMS) at Dorset College is a 30.56 weeklong program that consists of specially designed courses in Aircraft Science, Technical Communication, English Interactions, and Oral Fluency. With small class sizes, dedicated professional instructors and world class resources, the Dorset College AMS program offers international students unrivalled access to the education, skills, and tools to succeed in the Canadian and international labour force.

Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Studies (AMS) at Dorset College, students are guaranteed transfer to the Aircraft Structures Technician (AST) certificate program at University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

After 25 months in the UFVs apprenticeship program, students are able to apply for their Aircraft Maintenance Engineer S license (AME S license) from Transport Canada, and begin working in a rewarding growing professions in Canada.
