Astrocampus is a special site principally for the use of students, staff and outreach work of the Physics Department. This agreement displays your commitment to care for the facilities and your personal safety. Who can use the site? Students can, upon completing this agreement, gain access to Astrocampus by borrowing the keys from the Porters located in James College. Students are permitted out-of-hours access with completion of this agreement. Friends and family only permitted to visit during one of the public open evenings, events organised by Astrosoc or by other prior arrangement with the Director. A calendar of bookings and events occurring on site can be found at http://www.york.ac.uk/physics/intranet/calendars/astrocampus.htm Astrocampus buildings are alarmed and you will be given the code and trained how to disarm and arm the alarm on completion of this agreement. A reminder video can be viewed on the VLE site. Students are required to work in groups of two or more at any time on site. Special provision may be made for MPhys project students by arrangement with the Director. How do I use the site? Once you have the keys you can only use equipment you have been trained to operate. All observing visits to Astrocampus must be recorded in one of the log-books. This helps us to justify usage of the site and estimate weather statistics. Responsibility for the safety of Astrocampus and its contents rests with key-holders until keys have been returned to the Porters. If multiple users wish to observe at a particular time, they are expected to cooperate with each other, and arrange a fair distribution of the time. Keys are not transferable between users and must be returned by the student who has checked them out. How do I look after myself on Astrocampus? Observing should always be done with the building in use unlocked and the gate closed (daytime) and locked (night-time). In the event of an emergency you must leave the building as quickly as possible by the nearest exit. Call 01904 32 3333 (extension 3333) in any emergency to notify security services. Follow the emergency shut-down procedures displayed in each building if the situation requires. In an non-emergency situation you can contact 01904 32 4444 (extension 4444). Take care when using the site. There are many trip hazards, items of electrical equipment and fragile objects. If you see anything especially dangerous notify the Director during working hours or Security Services in the case of an emergency. Read the risk assessment on the VLE to make yourself familiar with a up-to-date list of all site hazards.
