AT A GLANCE: THE INTEGRATED HEALTH PROGRAM The Canadian Red Cross has developed a Can$35 million integrated health program in the Southeast Department, which aims to improve access to quality health services for mothers and children and strengthen communities in terms of community-based health and first aid. The program has four main components: 1) Improved community health education Red Cross health awareness activities reaching approximately 10,000 households per month on the following subjects: family planning hygiene and sanitation violence prevention diarrhea and malaria prevention first aid 2) Health centres Construction of a community health centre (Gaillard) and expansion of three rural clinics into health centres (Marbial, Lafond, Séguin). Residents of rural communities will have access to healthcare without needing to travel long distances. 3) Saint-Michel Hospital reconstruction, equipment purchase, and personnel training See reverse for details 4) Strengthening of public health institutions at the departmental and community levels Increased monitoring, planning, and organizational capacities, as well as service management and public health programs. AT A GLANCE: THE INTEGRATED HEALTH PROGRAM

The Canadian Red Cross has developed a Can$35 million integrated health program in the Southeast Department, which aims to improve access to quality health services for mothers and children and strengthen communities in terms of community-based health and first aid. The program has four main components:

THE NEW SAINT-MICHEL HOSPITAL IN JACMEL AN EARQUAKE-RESISTANT FACILITY IN HARMONY WITH ITS ENVIRONMENT

Rebuilding the only public departmental hospital in the Southeast is a vital step in ensuring the community’s long-term recovery. With its sustainable construction, newly purchased equipment, and personnel training, the Saint-Michel Hospital could become referral hospital.

1 PHASE 1

• Reception and admission• Outpatient clinic: adults, pediatrics, and reproductive health• Ophthalmology• Dentistry• Inpatient care: internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedics• Housekeeping• Kitchen and laundry

Technical details: • Natural ventilation and lighting• Donation and installation of new equipment• Training on the use, repair, and replacement of parts available in Haiti

The pediatric wing and three large Atrium walls will be decorated with mosaics designed by Jacmel youth from the Art Creation Foundation for Children (ACFFC), in cooperation with the Canadian Red Cross, hospital staff, and the True Mosaics studio.
