The Automobile Segment, consisting of automobileassembly, engines, car air-conditioning compressors, andelectronic components for automobiles, occupies adominant 68 percent share of Toyoda’s consolidated sales.
The automobile assembly business produces twomodels, the Vitz (exported to Europe as the Yaris) andthe Sprinter Carib (exported as the Corolla Wagon). The Vitz (Yaris) is very popular in both the domesticand European markets.

E-type gasoline engines.The car air-conditioning compressor business
develops and produces swash plate fixed displacementtype compressors, one-way swash plate variabledisplacement type compressors, scroll typecompressors and vane type compressors. Theseproducts are supplied to the world’s major carmanufacturers.
The semiconductor and electronics business producesvarious electronics components for automobiles includingon-vehicle enclosed type AC inverters andsemiconductors. In the past fiscal year, the AutomobileSegment recorded overall sales of ¥423.4 billion.
The Materials Handling Equipment Segmentencompasses the forklift and materials handling systemsbusinesses, which include automated storage andretrieval systems and automatic guided vehicle systems. The core products of the forklift business are theengine-powered counterbalanced forklift GENEO (7 Series overseas), and the electric-poweredcounterbalanced forklift GENEO-B (7FB overseas). With the acquisition of BT Industries AB of Sweden in
June 2000 and the slated transfer to Toyoda of allforklift operations from Toyota Motor Corporation inApril 2001, Toyoda will consolidate its position as aleading global forklift manufacturer.

Supported by the improving economies of SoutheastAsia, the recovery in sales of the JAT610 air jet loomboosted the overall sales of the Textile MachinerySegment, consisting of the spinning machinery andweaving machinery businesses, to ¥23.1 billion in fiscal2000. The acquisition of the water jet loom business
from Nissan Texsys Co., Ltd., enabled Toyoda tolaunch the LW600 series water jet loom in February2000. This product, a new type of water jet loom, isenhanced with the electronic technologies of Toyoda.
The “Others” Segment covers the electronics businessand although the scope of business is still small, it isexpected to grow quickly and become a strategicoperation.
Launched as a joint venture with Sony Corporationon an equal ownership basis, ST Liquid Crystal DisplayCorp. (ST-LCD) will form the core of the new businessarea. ST-LCD has begun production of low-temperaturepolysilicon TFT-LCDs, expected to become a next-
generation LCD. In addition, TIBC Corporation wasestablished as a joint venture with Ibiden Co., Ltd., andbegan production of ball grid array (BGA)-type plasticpackage substrates that respond to high-function ICchipsets in April 1999.
ST-LCD is an affiliate and thus its sales are notincluded in the consolidated sales because the figuresare accounted for under the equity method.
