At Arlington Place….
June 2020 Arlington Place Newsletter
We play a mean game of Heads up! Going ro have to come up with some new words.
They also play change a word by just changing one letter. Any kind of mind puzzles or
word games they are very quick to solve.
We are starting to dress up one day a week just to lift our spirits and its fun to see every-
one playing along. We dressed in our favorite color. Cant wait for the other days. Look for
pictures in the next newsletter!

Happy June! I love this time of year when the flowers start to bloom, the weather gets warmer and the birds are singing!
We are looking forward to some warmer weather here at Arlington Place to get resi-
dents outside for some social distancing bird watching and other activities.
Our quarantine will most likely be continuing for a while yet. We are following guidelines to keep our residents and staff as safe as possible
I was pondering recently on what the quarantine has taught me or better yet reminded me of what to do:
1) My Grandma had a saying, “Never spoil a good notion.” To me that equated to “If you think of someone or something to do for someone, do it now.”
2) Take time to be still. 3) Listen. 4) Enjoy the little things…. they might even turn into
something bigger and better. 5) Appreciation. 6) Gratitude. 7) Faith.
What have you learned about the world or yourself during this time?
If you know of someone who is looking for a long term or short-term place to live, we do have openings in assisted living and memory care. Is there is anything I can do to make your loved one’s life a bit easier? Let me know. We are always looking for ideas for our Dare to Dream pro-gram also.
Blessings on your day

Post-traumatic stress disor-der is brought to attention in the month of June. PTSD is mental health disorder that is triggered by a terrify-ing event that they had ex-perienced or witnessed. Symptoms from PTSD are flashbacks, nightmares and
anxiety with uncontrollable thoughts of the event (mayoclinic.com). These symptoms may start within 1 month of the event, but sometimes the symptoms don’t appear until years after the event. Symptoms can cause problems with so-cial and work situations and relationships, while interfering with your day to day tasks. Someone with PTSD after having disturbing thoughts after 1 month, should see a healthcare professional to get treatment to prevent symptoms. Suicidal thoughts may even occur, and if so you should reach out to a close friend, minister or call the suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255
(mayoclinic.com). Nicole Petersen

Hi everyone! Our staff has done an outstanding job caring for our residents dur-ing this COVID-19 pandem-ic and I am so proud to be a part of this team! We have had no cases of the virus
which is amazing. With that being said, we are still accepting new residents. We have several different rooms available including studio, 1 bedroom, 1 large bedroom, memory care, and we also offer respite stays. Karen, our Life En-richment Coordinator has done a great job with keeping our residents engaged and active while also practicing social distancing. If you refer a friend to Arlington Place, you will re-ceive $500 off your next months rent when they move in!

,
I can’t believe we are halfway through the year already. Father’s Day is coming up. I just
want to wish all the DADS out there a Happy Father’s Day. I’m going to have something planned for them for breakfast!! I think it would be fun to have more grill outs for the residence. To have something on the grill in the evening is the best. When I first started the kitchen, I made Cinnamon Roll cake. I would like to share this with everyone. I really enjoyed this recipe. Hope your family enjoys it also!
Cinnamon Roll Cake Recipe
Ingredients Cake: 3 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup of sugar 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 1/2 cups milk 2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/3 cup melted butter Topping: 1/4 cup butter melted 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons flour 1 tablespoon cinnamon Glaze 1 cup powdered sugar 2 to 3 tablespoons milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Instructions Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Spray a 9 x 13 pan with non-stick spray. Cake: In a large bowl, mix everything together for the
ingredients of the cake. Pour batter into prepared pan. For the topping, mix all of the ingredients well in a
small bowl. Drop spoonsful of topping on the batter and then
swirl it with a knife. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Drizzle glaze over warm cake. (You can reduce
the glaze and the cake would still be yummy.)

All the flowers have been planted and have received the rain water these last few days. Hopefully the weather conditions will get better and we well be able to enjoy the flowers. I have been trying to keep up this the weeds, but that seems to be a 24 hour job in itself. So I am waiting for a couple of dry days
and will use weed killer to get some control over that. As of right now I am still here periodically, so if you need something just let me or any staff member know and I will help you. I know it has been hard on every-one dealing with this virus, but keep the faith and keep safe.

Greetings, We pray that everyone is well. We are trying to keep things as normal as we can here, however, we are starting to go stir crazy so please pray for us. We are having more dress
up days so if you come in to see your loved one and notice that the staff and residents are dressed a little different don’t be afraid! We are Doing different mind games to help keep the mind sharp and they are doing really well keeping me n my toes.
Larry, has the garden looking nice. Once the weather starts to cooperate with us we will try to get back to the north end and work out there. Viola’s Niece blessed us with flowers and it looks great. Thank you so much for lifting our spirit's with such beauty.

Just a gentle reminder that a 24 hour notice is
appreciated for transportation needs. This al-
lows for staff planning.
Also, when your loved one is celebrating a birth-

Joyce Abbas, moved into Arlington Place, in January, of this year. Joyce,
was born in Eldora and grew up on a farm SE of Wellsburg, and a farm NE
of holland, Iowa.. She has lived in Grundy Center, since 1979. Joyce, has
one sister who is very faithful in visiting and running any kind of errand that
Joyce may need, Right now it is hard not to be able to see each other ex-
cept through the window, but Joyce, says “at least I still see her and can
hear her and that’s what is important”. Joyce, fills her days with looking at
her scrapbooks, coming to music speaks, walking in the garden and having
coffee with her friends. We look forward to being able to get out and start
new adventures but until then we will continue to keep our heads high and
keep smiling.
If you have a concern or question, please call Kaylene Hoskins, Manager. If it is a general reminder about an appointment etc., please call the community phone. Resident As-sistants are not to re-ceive text messages or calls on their per-sonal phones. Thanks
