The new München airport was opened in1992, marking the end of what was at thetime Europe’s biggest construction site. Pudong International Airport, one of the most forward-looking airports in theworld, began work as one of the largesthubs in Asia on 1 October 1999. Kansai Airport lies on a specially createdartificial island in the bay of Osaka.Freudenberg developed a rubber floor-covering for the extremely chargedpassenger areas (40,000 m2) specially for this project:norament® special design 22, based on norament® deco. Combining theadvantages of rubber with the design of the terrazzo floor, this covering satisfied the demands of the airport authority.Freudenberg was equal to this hugechallenge thanks to its high level of com-petence and years of experience withrubber.
