As a centerpiece to the downtown area of Wisconsin Rapids, no one could imagine there not being a vibrant and lively Hotel Mead & Conference Center. That could have very well happened but in the summer of 2012, three families not from the area made the decision to purchase the hotel with the intent to revitalize it to a place it had not been for a long time – the leader in service and hospitality in Central Wisconsin.

During the first visit to the hotel, each family felt there was a unique quality to the hotel and that they had the ability to complete this task however difficult or however long it took because they believed in it. The members of this ownership group are from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Texas. Upon purchasing the hotel on October 1, 2012 the responsibility was now theirs to live up to their own high expectations. They had known each other for many years but had not been business partners until that date when many friends became one and their company, SKD Hotel Mead, LLC was born.

In the weeks, months and years that followed, they have continued to strive towards that goal of restoring the hotel as a premier destination for overnight accommodations (Hotel Mead), first class dining establishment (Café Mulino) and an enjoyable place to relax and enjoy a drink (Grand Avenue Tavern).

One of the members of the three families is usually at the hotel every day; rain, shine or Wisconsin snow. They are not shy about visiting with guests so please ask for one of them should you want to chat with them about how this continuing journey is going.
