Greetings and welcome to your first look at the 15th Annual bull sale, Durhams in the Dakotas 2021!

While it feels really good to have 2020 in the rear view, it also offers cause for pause, and, positive reflection. We started off 2020 with a history making bull sale and followed it with our strongest private treaty bull demand ever, resulting in the sale of over 100 Shorthorn breeding bulls. Optimism returned to the Ag Sector with improved weather conditions and prices not realized in nearly a decade. Preston Cargo came back to JSF, this time with a wonderful family that truly breathed new life into this old soul. Durham Nation was a record setter and will go down as one of the strongest female sales of any breed this past fall sale season. While we acknowledge lost loved ones and trials for many, both business and personal, we are also beyond grateful for all the good we have been afforded.

Never to rest on laurels, we charge into 2021 with unparalleled energy and the greatest set of Shorthorn and Shorthorn influenced bulls ever assembled on the forthcoming pages. They exemplify what our cattle are known for, excelling in convenience traits and in turn bred for the long haul. How many sales do you view where the majority of bulls boast a sire that remains in natural service, covering vast country, at anywhere from 6 to 11 years of age? I’ll put money on not many, if any, of any breed. And, speaking of money, for what they cost anymore, we expect them to last for you, the customer, as long as possible, siring females that do just the same.

These bulls have been raised by good milking, easy fleshing, sound footed mothers in pastures along the banks of the Sheyenne & James River Valley systems in ND. They, and their dams, grow up having to travel for water, forage, and shade. Only the top 50% are retained as bulls. Once weaned, they are fed for optimum, not maximum gain, in large pens with free choice hay, working up to a 54mCal ration. This allows the bulls to express their genetic differences but not get overly fat. This year, we increased our pen size, forcing more travel once the bulls hit the yard. I believe this has resulted in the freshest, soundest set yet.
