Leading Music Artists Join the QSC K for Musicians Family

Jonathan Cain, Darryl Jones, Salo Loyo, Dave Weckl and Dweezil Zappa Rely on the K Family

Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is very pleased to announce

of the addition of several acclaimed musicians to their rapidly expanding K for Musicians family,

including songwriter, keyboardist, and longtime ‘Journey’ member Jonathan Cain, ‘The Rolling

Stones’ bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Salo Loyo, drummer Dave Weckl and guitarist

Dweezil Zappa.

According to Darryl Jones, his bass rig, consisting of a pair of KW122s and a KW181

subwoofer, gives him a clean, powerful sound which is extremely versatile to suit the many

different types of music he regularly plays. “Because I am involved in a lot of different kinds of

music--rock and roll, electronic jazz, sounds with synth bass, solo projects with effects-- I always

try to find the sound that fits the music I am playing. For rock and roll sounds, I use a tube amp

sound. I find that I can use the rig for really big sounds like synth bass and bass with lots of

effects, sequences that I am playing along with. This works great because the QSC rig is full

range. For some of the other things that I am doing, I need a more of a pure, really clean, clear,

powerful sound. That’s one of the things that led me to QSC,” explains Jones.

“My rig sounds fantastic with very little, if any, EQ on the speakers,” reports Dave Weckl. “The

KW Series reproduces my acoustic drum sound in a very natural, yet very high fidelity, manner.

And the headroom is unbelievable; the rig has much more power than I ever use on stage.”

“I honestly have never used any keyboard amp, speaker, PA system, wedge or in-ear system

that comes even close to the sound and response I get from my K Series,” says Salo Loyo.

“The sound is pure, clean and powerful. I don't have to worry about competing with anybody to

be heard. And it's not just volume; I can play at any level and the sound cuts thru beautifully and

clearly, without hurting anyone’s hearing.”

Jonathan Cain adds, “I was amazed at the way that the K’s can really rock. I don’t think for the

money, they can be beat. You would have to spend three, four times that amount of money to

get something to come close.”

Finally, Dweezil Zappa sums it up to say that his KW Series rig helps him have the sound that

inspires him: “To make good music you have to be inspired by the sound, and I think my current

setup is the best that I’ve had,” he says. “It does have more response with articulation - with the

things that I play and with the nuances that I can get by inducing feedback or those things that

you would expect from a guitar amp/speaker setup. I get the full-range frequency response but

I also get the feel of pushing enough air so that it feels like a guitar cabinet.”

Rolling Stones’ Bass Player Darryl Jones Joins the K for Musicians Family

Bassist Uses KW Series for Clean, Clear, Powerful Sound

Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome

bassist Darryl Jones to the rapidly expanding list of musicians who have joined the K for

Musicians family. A celebrated musician who has played with some of the most acclaimed

artists, in jazz, blues, and the rock music worlds, Jones is the bassist for The Rolling Stones.

Jones had his first introduction to the K Series and KW Series while on tour, interestingly, by

two drummers – Omar Hakim and Dave Weckl. “Omar Hakim told me he was playing his

electronic drum kit through a QSC rig and recommended it to me. Then I was out on tour with

Oz Noy and Dave Weckl, who was using it for his drum monitoring system. When I heard what

was he was doing with it, I asked him to hook me up with guys at QSC,” says Jones.

According to Jones, his bass rig, consisting of a pair of KW122s and a KW181 subwoofer, gives

him a clean, powerful sound which is extremely versatile to suit the many different types of

music he regularly plays. “Because I am involved in a lot of different kinds of music—rock and

some of the other things that I am doing, I need a more of a pure, really clean, clear, powerful

sound. That’s one of the things that led me to QSC,” explains Jones.

Darryl Jones began his career performing with Miles Davis and played bass guitar on the Davis

albums Decoy and You’re Under Arrest. Jones has worked with jazz artists such as Herbie

Hancock, Mike Stern, John Scofield, and Steps Ahead, as well as pop and rock artists like

Sting, Peter Gabriel, Madonna, and Eric Clapton. For the last 19 years, Darryl Jones has been

the bassist for The Rolling Stones. In addition, he is currently working on a number of projects

including Three Brave Souls with John Beasley, and rock trio called The Stone Raiders.

The Stone Raiders is a rock trio, but is kind of ‘blues forward’—it is blues-based music that is

more aggressive,” adds Jones. ”The KW Series fits in well with that, because when I need to

play at a high volume level, it’s clean and clear. When I want to dirty up that sound, I can add

the tube amp to do that. So I can cover a lot of ground with the QSC rig.”

Jonathan Cain Joins the QSC K Family

Songwriter/Keyboardist Rocks on with the KW Series

Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome

songwriter, keyboardist, longtime ‘Journey’ member Jonathan Cain into the K for Musicians

family.

Cain first discovered the KW Series when looking for a PA system for his daughter. “I started

with the K’s when my daughter Madison, who is a singer, needed a PA to do gigs around town.

This was my first QSC experience, and I was amazed at the vocal presence, they are great

vocal monitors,” says Cain. “My wife also likes to have dance parties, so I set them up at home

and bought the big sub. Once again, I was amazed at the way that the K’s can really rock. I

don’t think for the money, they can be beat. You would have to spend three, four times that

amount of money to get something to come close.”

At Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville, Cain’s studio with fellow engineer, producer

and musician David Kalmusky, the vibe is one of a recording studio with the feel of a

rehearsal space where artists can record and also sing and play live. And the QSC KW

Series helps to give them the sound that they need.

“We like the sound of QSC speakers because of their ability to reproduce vocals in such

a great way. They're lightweight, perfect size for what we wanted for the studio. We have

a subwoofer, as well, that we can use in tandem,” adds Cain. “In addition to the QSC

speakers and monitors for the live PA in the cutting room, we're using the PLX2

reference amplifiers for monitors A and B, as well as in the chamber. It’s a lot of power, a

lot of clean power, the kind that you want to listen to, in critical situations. In critical

situations, QSC always comes through.”

Cain and ‘Journey’ recently wrapped up a tour throughout the U.S and Canada with ‘Loverboy’

and Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. He has received two of the most prestigious BMI songwriter

awards for the Most Performed Song of the Year ( over two million or more radio plays) for the

songs, "Open Arms" and "Who's Crying Now", co-written with Steve Perry. The Journey song,

"When You Love a Woman", which he co-wrote with Perry and Neal Schon, was nominated for

a Grammy Award. Cain has written songs for a diverse group of artists including: Maria Carey,

The Oak Ridge Boys, Heart, Peter Frampton, Michael Bolton, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Rogers,

Greg Allman and Conway Twitty. He's also produced a number of his own solo albums - "Back

To The Innocence" and "Anthology", 'Piano with a View", "Body Language", "For A Lifetime",

"Namaste", "Animated Movie Love Songs", “Bare Bones” and “Where I Live”.

Drummer Dave Weckl Joins the K for Musicians Family

Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome

drummer Dave Weckl into the K for Musicians family. A professional drummer since the age of

16, Weckl has been performing for nearly three decades with a diverse selection of artists,

getting his first major break with Simon and Garfunkel on the duo’s 1983 tour.

After being introduced to the QSC K Series at the 2012 NAMM Show, Weckl auditioned a

system at the company’s Costa Mesa headquarters and selected a system for himself

comprised of a pair of KW122’s and a single KSub.

“My rig sounds fantastic with very little, if any, EQ on the speakers,” reports Weckl. “The K

Series reproduce my acoustic drum sound in a very natural, yet very high fidelity, manner. And

the headroom is unbelievable; the rig has much more power than I ever use on stage.”

According to Weckl, his KW Series setup has had a very positive effect on the way that

he plays. “My K rig allows me to be comfortable, to be able to compete with the other

amps and provide a seriously killing drum sound on stage,” he explains. “It also gives me

the low-end support I need from the bottom of the kit, which is almost impossible to find

in other systems. This 'comfort factor' allows me to relax, play and concentrate on the

music, which is where my concentration needs to be.”

Weckl has toured with a wide range of artists over the years, including a nine-year

working relationship with Chick Corea, in both the keyboardist’s Elektric and Akoustic

bands. As a session drummer, Weckl has played with Madonna, George Benson, Barry

Manilow and a host of other jazz, rock, pop and R&B artists.

Recently returning from Europe with Chris Minh Doky and the Nomads, Weckl also

frequently performs with guitarist Mike Stern, Chuck Loeb and Oz Noy. Between tours

he can be found at his home studio in Los Angeles, where he offers a full-service

recording and production service. He has released nine albums as a solo artist, five

and DVDs.

Weckl adds that the K Series meshes perfectly with his personal approach to audio,

capturing the natural sound of his drums while imparting pleasing hi-fi characteristics,

and also delivering sufficient power even on a loud stage.

“I've finally found a system where I don't have to work at getting a good sound,

especially where the low end is concerned,” adds Weckl. “With the K Series, it's like

you're sitting in the control room of a great studio listening a great mix over very

expensive studio monitors with nothing to do but basically turn them on. KILLING!”

Dweezil Zappa Joins the QSC K for Musicians Family

Guitarist Gets Inspired by the Sound with KW Series

Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome

guitarist Dweezil Zappa to the growing list of artists who have joined the K for Musicians family.

A rock guitarist who took the stage at the age of 12, Zappa is known the word over as a master

of tone, often deploying elaborate rigs, both on stage and in the studio, to achieve sophisticated

and complex sonic signatures.

“I needed something that was going to reproduce on stage what I was hearing on my studio

speakers at home while programming the sounds. I wasn’t able to get that until I started working

with the QSC stuff, “says Zappa. “The KW122 loudspeakers really have all of the full-range

depth and clarity, and the headroom that is required to have it feel right.”

According to Zappa, his KW Series rig helps him have the sound that inspires him: “To make

good music you have to be inspired by the sound, and I think my current setup is the best that

I’ve had,” he says. “It does have more response with articulation - with the things that I play and

with the nuances that I can get by inducing feedback or those things that you would expect from

a guitar amp/speaker setup. I get the full-range frequency response but I also get the feel of

pushing enough air so that it feels like a guitar cabinet.”

Dweezil Zappa has spent his career as a rock guitarist working solo as well as playing

alongside music legends like father Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Eddie van Halen, Stevie

Ray Vaughn, Steve Lukather – the list goes on and on. In the past few months, Dweezil

Zappa has been on tour in Europe with his band, Zappa Plays Zappa (ZPZ), which will

continue in the U.S. through early 2013, playing material from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

ZPZ recently released their new FOH series album entitled, “Out of Obscurity.” And this

past summer marked the fourth annual “Dweezilla,” a diverse musical boot camp for

players of all skill levels created by Dweezil to give back to the musical community. In

between tours, Zappa spends time on his own solo compositions, which span a wide

range of musical genres.

Page 14: At this year’s show, QSC is proud to announce that a ... · PDF fileOz Noy and Dave Weckl, who was using it for his drum monitoring system. When I heard what was he was doing with

A musician who is very detail oriented in his creative process, Zappa also prides himself

in making sure that audiences can hear all of the nuances and details in his music when

he plays his digital modeling rig onstage. Referring to the results achieved in utilizing the

KW Series in a live setting, Zappa states, “In the end, when you listen to the sound, you

would never be able to tell that it’s not a tube amplifier. But when I’m playing, the QSC

speakers complete the overall feel and character of the sound –- and that’s something

that I really have enjoyed about working with the QSC speakers.”

QSC K Family is for Salo Loyo

Keyboardist for Luis Miguel and ‘No Pals’ Finds His Sound with K Series

Costa Mesa, CA (December 21, 2012) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome

keyboardist Salo Loyo into the K for Musicians family. A professional keyboardist since 1985,

Loyo has had the opportunity over his career to experience many, if not all, types of

amplification systems available.

“I honestly have never used any keyboard amp, speaker, PA system, wedge or in-ear system

that comes even close to the sound and response I get from my K Series,” says Loyo. “The

sound is pure, clean and powerful. I don't have to worry about competing with anybody to be

heard. And it's not just volume; I can play at any level and the sound cuts thru beautifully and

clearly, without hurting anyone’s hearing.”

After reading some reviews on the QSC K Series in Musico Pro and Keyboard magazines, Loyo

was interested in the idea of 1000 watts of power in such a lightweight speaker, and decided to

audition the K Series for himself. “The moment I heard the K Series, it truly was “love at first

sound,” says Loyo. “And to have 1000 watts available in a completely portable and lightweight

speaker, well, there was no deciding — the decision was made.”

According to Loyo, his K Series setup has had a very positive effect on the way that he

plays. “The K Series gives me the ability to play in a more relaxed way because I don't

have to adapt my playing to the speaker,” he adds. “I can actually play the way I always

do and the speaker simply amplifies, delivers and translates exactly what I'm playing,

without any extra effort.

Salo Loyo has played keyboards on tour with Luis Miguel since 2002, and has written

many songs for him including “Sol, Arena y Mar,” (BMI Award Winner), and “Dimelo En

Un Beso,” which were included in the GRAMMY and Billboard award winning album.

“Amarte es un Placer.” He also wrote songs for Miguel’s “33,” “Nada es Igual,” and his

most recent album “Labios de Miel.” Loyo has worked with a wide range of artists over

the years, including Jon Anderson (Yes), Howard Hewitt, Herb Alpert, Marco Antonio

Solis, and Charlie Zaa.

Loyo has just returned from a tour with Miguel in South America; earlier this year he also toured

in the US, Mexico, Central America and Spain. He has also been a part of the pre-

production/production team for Luis Miguel's studio recordings for the past 10 years.

Currently, he is involved in the pre-production of a new album for his own group, No-Pals.

Between touring, he spends time arranging and producing for records and TV as well as playing

live as much as possible.

“In keeping with QSC’s loudspeaker design philosophy, all AcousticPerformance loudspeakers

feature Directivity Matched Transition™ (DMT) which matches the compression driver to the

natural coverage angle of the woofer in the cross-over region”, states Phil Sanchez, QSC

Loudspeaker Product Manager. “When combined with their axisymmetric waveguides,

AcousticPerformance loudspeakers deliver a flat power response with smooth and accurate

sonic reproduction and remarkably consistent coverage both on and off-axis.”

AcousticPerformance models may be used in passive (full-range) mode to minimize amplifier

channel count or bi-amp mode for greater control and performance. To further enhance

performance, bi-amp and full-range tunings using QSC Intrinsic Correction techniques are

available for Q-Sys™ and future QSC products.

All models feature M10 mounting points for deployment via eye-bolts as well as mount points for

an optional yoke bracket. The AP-5122m multi-purpose enclosure features a 40-degree angle,

making it ideal for floor monitor use, and a pole cup for deployment on a loudspeaker stand. The

enclosure and terminal input cup on the AP-5122m have been designed to facilitate the cable

runs for a clean appearance on stage.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

QSC Audio Products Named One of the Top Ten Orange County Workplaces

Ranked #7 among All Mid-Sized Companies in 2012 by Orange County Register

Costa Mesa, CA (December, 2012) – QSC Audio Products has been named one of the Top

Orange County Workplaces for the third year in a row, according to the daily newspaper, The

Orange County Register. The responses were based upon anonymous survey results from

almost 20,000 employees from various companies surveyed throughout the region.

For the survey, employees were asked to respond anonymously to 20 statements about their

workplace experience and the leadership at their company. The company rankings were then

independently calculated by survey firm WorkplaceDynamics based upon the employees

responses to these statements – so the results are truly based on employee feedback. 15 large

companies, 25 midsize companies, and 50 small workplaces made the list of the Top O.C.

Workplaces 2012, with QSC ranking as #7 among mid-sized companies.

"QSC is a place where people are growing, working together and are genuinely engaged and

excited to bring forth their best," says QSC CEO Joe Pham. "If there is one thing that makes this

company a top workplace, it's simply our people. We have phenomenal talent at QSC, we

genuinely care for one another and really- and I mean really-work together as a team. There is a

level of care here that reminds you of family, which is something extremely special, not only in

our industry but in the workplace in general.
