We have also secured the services of two overseas players, Jarrod Taylor (prop) and Alister Burke (utility back) thanks to the hard work of Dave Morris. Three other players have signed for the Club and we welcome Nick Sany from Wimbledon, Paul Redfern from Bedford and Will Paxton from Whitechurch. This will certainly add to the strength of the Club with only a few players leaving for university and Mike Stallwood going to Mexico we wish them all the best for the future and they know we will greet them on their return with open arms. Pre-season continues to go well with Simon Quinn and Christian O’Hare putting the senior men and women through their paces. We are most grateful for their input, which has made the sessions (nearly) enjoyable and varied. As the squad grows there will be competition for first team places and with a little luck and a season free of injury, these players will achieve success. However, it comes down to each player wanting to do their best but with the way training is progressing and the atmosphere growing amongst the Senior ranks, anything is possible. We are lucky to have found the additional finance to afford this, mainly due to a few Vice Presidents and individual Club members together with a very generous RFU grant. Please, can we now look after our facilities, which are among the best in Essex if not East Anglia. The Club hopes that everybody will treat the facilities and grounds with the respect they deserve and we can make Chelmsford a leading club within Essex and beyond. Many thanks once again to all the individuals who have contributed. The official opening of the extension will be at the start of the season in September, further information will follow. Youth News: Six U13s selected for Essex County School of Rugby (SoR) On 27th June, over 150 U13 lads from Essex battled for a place in the Essex School of Rugby. On a very hot day, with numerous assessors putting the lads through their paces, we are delighted to announce that Josh Wright, Scott Griffin, Sam Trowell, Stefan Warner, Chay Pollinger and George Pohl were all successful. This is a great achievement as they were up against the strongest rugby players from across the county.

The hard work begins with two one day SoR sessions on 27th and 29th July followed by two one day sessions in August then again in October at Old Brentwoods RFC.

Charity Trek Ian Stuart and Stuart Bolton completed the Trek Spain 2010 on behalf of Parkinson’s UK from 10th to 14th June. As some of you will know, they were doing this for their friend John “AJ” Smith, a long-time member of the Club, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s some years ago. A group of 25 people, with ages ranging from 23 to 76, flew to Malaga and were then transported to Trevélez, in the Sierra Nevada, to begin the trek. Trevélez is the highest village in Spain at over 1500 metres altitude. On the first day, we climbed to a height of 2100 metres, before descending to Bérchules, a total of 17 kilometres, mostly on goat tracks. The second day we trekked a further 15 kilometres over the mountains to Yegen and on the final day, 16 kilometres to Mairena, never going below 1000 kilometres altitude on any of the three days. Included in the group were 4 people, who were suffering from Parkinson’s and this made the trek even more poignant. The fantastic scenery, flora, food, and the people in the group made this a memorable event. At the end of the trek, it was announced that the team had so far raised a total of £51,500 for research into the condition that currently has no known cure. Many thanks to all those who have sponsored us in this venture, we are extremely grateful. There is still time to forward a donation, if you have not already done so, no matter how small, by going to either www.justgiving.com/Ian-Stuart or www.justgiving.com/stuart-bolton .Once again, many thanks for all your support.

Subscriptions Many members have not yet returned their Gift Aid declaration form that the Club posted to them several weeks ago. Without this form, the Club is unable to claim Gift Aid and maximize the money you pay to the Club. The Club needs every £ it can raise to pay its running costs and to repay the RFU loan, so please do not waste this opportunity for the sake of the time it takes to put two ticks and your signature on a form. If you no longer have the form then you can get one at the Club bar. Please remember, our core values include Teamwork and Discipline. Peter Tyrie Hon Membership Secretary
