3DIC2017

Dear Athletes,

We are very proud to announce the IRONMAN Mar del Plata, city of the triathlon and its birthplace in South America.

Continuously for more than 30 years, different distances of the triathlon are run in this beautiful city, and in 2017, after dreaming about this for so long, IRONMAN arrives in Argentina, so on December 3rd Mar del Plata will be a great party.

Mar del Plata is the most visited cities of the Atlantic coast, more than 8 million tourists arrive every year to enjoy its wide and beautiful beaches. It is located 400 km. from the capital city of Argentina, with a great connectivity through different means of transport, by planes or by routes, Mar del Plata is without any doubt a great option for any tourist who wants to relax and enjoy the beaches, hotels, the casino, the woods, architecture, gastronomy and for sport-touring (surf, fishing and golf).

Mar del Plata is a city that is known for its amazing beauty and architecture, placed on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The expe-rience and the history of this city has become very familiar with sporting events; it is very important to the city and the community. The 1978 World Cup, the 1995 Pan American Games, the 2014 final Davis Cup, the 2012 Rally Dakar, which started and finished in this city, in the same place where this event will take part. On the other hand, it is considered the cradle of the triathlon in South America.

The race courses are in the most emblematic area of the city, going around the sea Bd. and giving the athletes landscapes that they will never forget.

The athletes will start with a 3.8 km swim, then a 180 km bike along the sea shore and finally a 42.2 km run along the Mar del Plata coast.

With an average temperature between 22° and 27° Celsius, at the time of the competition, it is without any doubt, the ideal place for IRONMAN.

2017 IRONMAN Mar del Plata, will offer 40 slots for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 2018.

Best of luck!!!!!

Any combination of three blue cards may result in disqualification (DSQ)

IRONMAN will operate under the principle 3 BLUE CARD violations and you are out (DSQ). DRAFTING AND LITTERING are the only two violations that will incur a time penalty (to be served in the closest penalty tent, located along the bike course), all violations count for the three penalties necessary to be disqualified. It is important to remember that any penalty incurred along the bike course, requires the athlete to stop at the penalty tent along the route. Any penalties incurred in the run course are to be served at the point of infraction (that is to say the athlete cannot go to the penalty tent).

Any combinations of three penalties will result in DSQ. So that you understand the rules to be applied on race day, it is very important to read carefully the Athlete Guide and the 2017 IRONMAN Competition Rules.

The POSITION violations are the following:

• Always ride on the right side of the route to avoid an Illegal Position or Blocking call.• Keep 5 bike lengths of clear space between your bike’s front Wheel and the rear Wheel of the cyclist in front of you to avoid a DRAFTING call.• Always pass on the left of the cyclist in front of you to avoid an Illegal Pass call.• Complete your pass within 25 seconds to avoid a DRAFTING call.• Passed athletes must be seen making immediate and constant rear progress up to a distance of four bike lengths before trying to pass, to avoid Drafting call.• The triathlon is an individual sport and so it is the responsibility of each athlete to know the rules of the competence and avoid penalties.• The referee’s ruling is final in the case of POSITION violations, and there are no protests or appeals. Other common violations include:

The triathlon is an individual sport and so it is the responsibility of each athlete to know the rules of the competence and avoid penalties. - The referee’s ruling is final in the case of POSITION violations, and there are no protests or appeals. Other common violations include:

Helmet ChinstrapYour chinstrap must be securely fastened whenever you are on your bike on race day.

Athlete Race NumberYou must wear your bib number during the run race. The number of your bike must be properly attached to your bike frame and must be visible.

LitteringDo not throw anything outside of official aid stations. Littering will result in a BLUE Card violation which is a 5 minutes time penalty.

Unauthorized EquipmentIt is absolutely forbidden the usage of any communication devices (including cell phones) or other audio devices including Ipods, Mp3 players, etc.

Outside AssistanceIt is forbidden for non-racers to ride or run alongside the athlete. Friends, relatives, coaches or the general public cannot give the athletes food, drinks or anything and it is the responsibility of the athlete to tell them so, so as to avoid disqualification.

Please treat other athletes, volunteers and members of the team with courtesy and consideration. Failing to do so is unsportsmanlike conduct and may result in disqualification.

I really wish you had a great race!!!!!!!

rewarding age-group athletes’ hard work, dedication, and performance across IRONMAN.

The program uses the IRONMAN Age Group Ranking system to determine which athletes have finished within the top 10 percent or better in their age group each calendar year. This system allows athletes to generate points based on their finish time behind the first official finisher in their age group. Athletes accumulate points for each race they complete. If the race is deemed a non-wetsuit legal race, all athletes who choose to race in the wetsuit wave will receive base participation points in accordance with the All World Athlete age group ranking system. On December 31st, only the top three performances will count toward an athletes’ All World Athlete status. This makes it easy for athletes to improve their ranking by simply racing more with IRONMAN.

An athlete can achieve All World Athlete status in one or all of the following categories: IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3 and OVERALL (IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 combined). There are three levels associated with the All World Athlete program: GOLD (top one per cent) SILVER (top five per cent) BRONZE (top ten per cent
