ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Name: Scott Vetter | Month: March 2017 Q: Where are you from? A: Phoenix, Arizona. Q: What do you do for work? A: I work for an oil and gas company – in the operations center – in Parachute. I work a week on and a week off. Q: What are your hobbies outside of the gym? A: Hunting, snowboarding, hanging out with my wife and kids. I do a lot of metal work, too – both decorative and functional. Q: Are there any interesting facts about you that others don’t know? A: Interesting facts…gosh…I was a certified smokejumper for a time in Flagstaff, Arizona. Q: When did you start CrossFit? A: Late October of 2016. Q: What is your favorite CrossFit movement? A: Today I’m going to say thrusters. Q: What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? A: As of yesterday, burpee box jumps. Q: What were your thoughts prior to starting CrossFit, and how have those changed? A: Prior thoughts were just mixed. I didn’t know too much about it, I just knew it was a high-‐intensity workout. I quickly became addicted to it and couldn’t get enough. I couldn’t walk for four days after my first Saturday workout with Ray. I want to thank all of the coaches and other people at the gym for making me feel welcome and wanting to constantly come back. Q: What changes have you seen since starting CrossFit? A: Huge changes. I have lost 30 pounds! And my overall max weight on deadlift and power cleans has jumped, even from college. Q: What are your goals in CrossFit? A: Just to push myself to my maximum training level, and to constantly improve myself.

Q: How did you hear about Sopris CrossFit? A: Just by driving by. I saw the sign. Q: How has CrossFit changed your lifestyle? A: All for the better. It has changed my eating habits for sure. I’m now so pure paleo that it drives my wife nuts. It has made all aspects of my life healthier. I tend to think that if I can get through a CrossFit workout, then all other life obstacles can be worked through. Q: What advice would you give to someone who is just starting at Sopris CrossFit? A: The pain is only temporary.
