Chalcot Lodge Commitment to Child Safety

Chalcot Lodge Primary School is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision-making. Chalcot Lodge Primary School has zero tolerance for child abuse.

Chalcot Lodge Primary School is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Every person involved at Chalcot Lodge Primary School has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the fore-front of all they do and every decision they make.

Chalcot Lodge Talent Quest Show A very big thank you to Mrs Diciero for organising our annual Chalcot Lodge Talent Show. The children had the opportunity to showcase their talents and what a performance they put on for us. We certainly do have a very talent bunch at Chalcot Lodge. It was great to see so many parents and extended family members cheering on our performers. School Athletics Carnival Staff and students in Years 3 to 6 had a wonderful time on Tuesday at the School Athletics Carnival, held at the Knox Athletics Track. Mr Hawes now has the task of selecting students to represent our school at the District Athletics Event, which will be held on Thursday 15th August. Congratulations to all our students for your great effort and achieving your personal best. A very big thank you to Mr Hawes for organising the School Athletics Carnival and the staff for running the events. Students and staff came home very tired that day!!!!!!!!! Education Week – Careers and Pathway Night What a wonderful time we all had at our Careers and Pathway Night!!!! Students, parents and teachers participated in many activities based on careers such as Emergency Services, Engineering/Info Technology, Arts/Designs, the Trades and Hospitality. The smell of the yummy pizzas from the Hospitality activity wafted right across the school!!!!!! A special big thank you to Ms Kodogiorgos for her hard work in organising and coordinating this major family event and the wonderful staff who organised their activities and assisted on night. Moonlit Sanctuary – Wildlife Conservation Park Our Prep students had a fabulous day on Wednesday visiting Moonlight Sanctuary. The full day program included a number of activities relating to birds, mammals and reptiles. Thank you to all our parent helpers that assisted on the day! Winter is on its way We have had a very mild and lovely autumn, but looking at the weather forecast for next week, winter is finally upon us. It would be a good idea to make sure your child has their jumper and waterproof jacket before they leave for school next week. With the onset of the cold weather, many people find that their asthma seems to flare up. If your child has asth-ma at this time of year, it may be advisable to visit your doctor and review your child’s asthma plan. Please noti-fy the school if there are any changes to the plan. If you would like any information relating to asthma please feel free to call the Asthma Foundation on 1800 645 130. Before and After School Supervision We have a large number student who are arriving to school very early in the morning. Some as early as 8.15am. I wish to remind parents that supervision of students commences at 8.45am and concludes at 3.45pm. Between these times, when students are in the playground, they are supervised by teaching staff. Outside these times, stu-dents are not supervised and should not be at school.

The school does provide a before and after school care program. Please contact Camp Australia on 1300 105 343 if you need supervision for your child/ren before 8.45am or after 3.45pm. I would suggest that if parents are having their children dropped off by carers, ensure that carers are informed of the times teacher supervision is available.

School Safety Procedures-Visitors at School All volunteers at the school, including parent helpers, are required to have a current “Working with Children Check’ and details about this can be gained at the school office. All volunteers and visitors to the school, (including parents who are just popping for 5 minutes or workmen) must call at the office to sign in, read and sign the Child Safety Code of Conduct Agreement (once per year) and collect a school security badge before commencing their activity each visit. The visitors badge must be worn at all times and clearly displayed. These procedures ensure the safety of our students and all visitors within the school grounds. Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday- Monday 10th June Just a reminder that the Queen’s Birthday long weekend is coming up soon! Monica Ghirxi Principal

RENOVATION RESCUE! Our Green Team are currently renovating the old pond area near the entrance to the classroom building. The maintenance team spent the day cleaning out the area and its already looking wonderful and quite big! Our plan is to create a chill out / green area, including seating, a mural on the brick wall and lots of plants. We would love to hear from any families that can donate a bench style seat, similar to our ‘Friendship Seat’ and succulents to plant. Please contact Bree Osborne if you can assist :-)

Waste Free Lunches Chalcot Lodge is proudly working towards reducing our waste by encouraging everyone to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reducing our waste by limiting our packaging and single use items. Reusing by bringing our food in reusable containers and Recycling by composting our food scraps and recycling our paper.

Waste free lunchboxes are good for our health and good for our planet! Let’s use our reusable containers and drink bottle instead of wrap and packaging to reduce our schools waste.

Here’s some examples of waste free lunchbox ideas that can easily be made the night before including fruit, vegetables, sandwiches and snacks put in reusable containers. These kinds of containers will last for years, greatly reducing your landfill waste. Containers come in all shapes and sizes! Please label your child’s con-tainer so they don’t go missing!

Solar Panels

The teachers and students here at Chalcot Lodge are proudly working together to create a more environmentally sustainable school. Did you know that on top of our classrooms we have 200 solar panels that help power our school?

How do they work? The sun shines on the solar panels and the panels absorb the energy, creating direct current electricity. The electricity then moves into something called a solar inverter. This then converts the current into electricity. Did you know that the solar we don’t use here at school, we send back out into the Endeavour Hills community!

Chalcot Solar Fact: The solar energy Chalcot Lodge generated in the past fortnight saved about 247.5kg of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. That's about the same as 1.2 trees! Well done to all the students, parents and teachers who are doing their bit to help the environment. Here at school, students are recycling, reusing and reducing their waste to help sustain our school environment. Discuss with your child at home the steps you are taking as a family to reduce your environmental footprint. Your teacher would love to know!
