Library News

Welcome to the latest edition of At the Library and my first @ the Board column.A lot has been going on behind the scenes at the Board. After completing the renovations at Bathurst Clark Resource Library we held a grand re-opening celebration. Talented students from St. Elizabeth Catholic High School, TorontoWaldorf School and Westmount Collegiate Institute provided exceptional

entertainment for the 203 students, customers and members of the community that joined us. We havebeen working hard to provide solutions that address the needs for expanding library services within theCity of Vaughan. In March, we held a special Library Board meeting to review and revise our Library construction priorities, then presented our recommendation to the City of Vaughan Council. In April,we received the great news that our plan to proceed with the construction of a neighbourhood libraryattached to the North Thornhill Community Centre was approved. This new community library willaddress a real need for the Thornhill Woods community. We also unveiled a commemorative plaque inApril to honour the Library Board Trustees serving in 1981 at the time of the opening of the currentWoodbridge Library. The Board held a strategic planning session to analyze and discuss the future direction of the Libraries for VPL’s 2012-2015-2020 Strategic Plan, which we will be presenting to thecommunity soon. We are interested to hear your thoughts on any programs you attended or that youwould like to see us offer. We encourage you to contact us at [email protected]. We hope thatyou take advantage of the many programs we are running during the summer and we look forward toproviding even more opportunities to see you @ the Library.
