Don’t forget the library during the busy holiday season. Not only do we still need patrons to re-member to return items on time, but we still need volunteers to help. We need a couple of volun-teers who would be will-
November is upon us, and the holidays are just min-utes away. Until then, we continue to move forward at the library. I attend webi-nars every week, trying to keep us in the forefront of programs and services we can provide for our patrons.
One idea that we had after the book sale was to have a handmade gifts/ altered book program. If you have-n’t seen what one can do with an old book and some imagination, you won’t want to miss this program. I think you will be seeing fli-ers about this in the next
ing to train and schedule regular work shifts. The experience is sure to be a rewarding one.
We recently (September 30th) completed our fis-cal year and started FY 2012 on October 1st. Next month, after we clear up all the details and numbers, we’ll pro-vide you with some of the stats for FY 2011.

FOL Board Notes !!
From the Director’s Desk…
Dear Friends:
We are rapidly approaching a series of holidays and Holy Days normally concluded by a New Year’s Eve celebration. Family members away at college or just living away will be back to celebrate with mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin and/or friends. However, not all of our fellow Atlanteans will have
reason to celebrate due to personal circumstances beyond their control. Personal loss, broken relationships, illness and other misfortunes play havoc with people’s lives, especially at this time of the year. If you know someone is “down” during the end-of-year “goings on”, you may want to consider to include them. Assuming all watched out for children and others during Halloween, be sure to express your thankfulness as the Spirit leads you during Thanksgiving.
Jerry Porter

Thanksgiving Season Books
In December we will start exploring the Library’s new website!!
The above link connects the At-lanta Library and its patrons to many resources housed in vari-ous State Libraries.
The top line links provide con-nections to information:
“For the Public”….
“For Libraries and Educa-tors” ….
“For State and Local Gov-ernments” …. And
“ Agency Information”
We don’t have near enough room to go into detail about each link.
However, there is a link in this site to help you find out all about our Texas State Library system and about Texshare in general. See if you can find it!!
You may be looking for a very particular book, refer-ence, document, etc that the Atlanta Library does not carry and you may find it through this WebPage.
If you are an explorer, this could be an excellent ave-nue to spend an interesting afternoon researching!
This is a view of the Texshare site once opened. Nearly all the above
words are links to other sites

Beaglemania: A Pet Rescue Mystery by Linda O. Johnston - 2011
Lauren Vancouver is the head of “HotRescues”a no-kill animal shelter, but it is often human nature that puts her in the path of danger. In this story that (danger) happens three times. At a particularly nasty puppy mill (a place that breeds and produces dogs without regard to the safety, health and com-fort of the animal), Lauren helps rescue four adorable beagle puppies that were dumped down a drain-age pipe; and she is pretty sure she knows who is responsible. Efram Kiley, an employee of the mill has a history of dog abuse. After he shows up at HotRescues and stirs up trouble by threatening Lau-ren, Efram is found dead at the shelter --- and Lauren becomes the prime suspect. Anyone that is an animal lover will enjoy this first book of a new series to the Library!

Kid’s Corner by …… Any volunteers?

Our Friends of the Library are guided by three (3) documents or group of rules. The first one is a group of rules. We won’t go into much detail, but essentially the rules are federal and state government regulations man-dating procedures and payments pertaining to an organization authorized to do business in Texas. The other part of this group pertains reports and actions necessary for a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The Board of Directors is the primary body responsible for compli-ance. The second document is the revised (January 17, 2008) Bylaws of the organization, whose full name is Friends of the Atlanta Public Library, Inc. Article III defines Membership as “Any citizen or organization
1. Publicly support the Library and its policies. 2. Include a member from the Library’s administration (Jackie Icenhower) 3. All monies raised be spent for Library programs, services and defined
needs… 4. Library administration has final say in accepting/declining any and all gifts
made to the Library. 5. Engage in advocacy efforts on behalf of the Library under guidance of the
Library and Library Advisory Board. 6. If they (Friends) cease to actively fundraise and promote the Library, they
will disband allowing for a new Friends group to be established…
I’m sorry I have to leave! I’ll miss all
my visitors and their families.
No business was conducted during September as is noted in September’s Financial Report. All Summer Reading expenses to-date have been paid.
Receipts were very light and so no deposit was made until October. These (and other) receipts will be reflected in Octo-ber’s Report.
It is imperative, as we move into membership renewal time to get a volunteer to serve as Vice President. At this time, the Vice President will NOT have to serve in lieu of the Presi-dent.
The primary responsibility of the VP will be to maintain and track incoming membership (new and renewals). If anyone likes to do a little spreadsheet work on a computer and is will-ing to donate about 10 hours per month, stay in touch with the Library staff to get incoming forms and keep the membership up to date, the FOL needs your help.
In order to keep expenses down and serve our membership, we need to know our membership. Non-renewals will be dropped from the roster and not receive services; but we do not want to inadvertently omit or overlook our loyal constitu-ency.
Please let anyone on the Library staff know your interest.
