been received.

Barnett further stated that

several teachers are paid

through the now-retracted

funds.

Barnett says that though this

budget cut is unfortunate, the

school system will get by with-

out cutting any jobs.

“We’ll dip into our reserves

that we get criticized for even

carrying,” said Barnett, stating

that the reserves are imperative

for the schools to retain, as

school systems do, to get

money for their budgets until

November.

According to Barnett, hav-

ing a reserve fund allows the

school system to give its teach-

ers a paycheck during the early

months of the year.

In 2013 Barresi proposed a

$2,000 a year pay raise for

teachers that would, according

to Barnett, be funded through

school reserve funds.

he tried to contact the bank dur-

ing the first break, he couldn't

get through either.

Roberts said that the biggest

impact the outage had on the

bank's customers was the fact

that the real-time accounting

system is set to revert to the pre-

vious day's balance in the event

of a system failure.

Because the outage happened

on the 16th, the day after many

people receive their paychecks,

there were some issues with

people not having their deposits

recorded from the night before.

Roberts said that the bank's

policy is, when it's an issue like

the outage, the bank will make

everything right with the cus-

tomer.

“We probably had a little

more lobby traffic than usual,

said Roberts.

Bristow Police Chief Don

Sweger said that once he real-

ized the police station was with-

out communications of any

kind, he immediately sent an

officer up the Turner Turnpike

in search of cellular service.

“They were just a couple

miles from the Kellyville exit

before they got service,” said

Sweger. “We alled AT&T and

had our station calls forwarded

to Sapulpa for anyone who may

have still had phone service.

Sweger said that the depart-

ment's digital radio service

went down with the Internet

outage leaving communications

spotty at best.

Sweger also said he felt that

AT&T was tight lipped with

information on what caused the

outage, which virtually crippled

communications in the Bristow

area.

“AT&T is usually forthcom-

ing with information,” said

Sweger. “But not this time.”

On Monday, AT&T

spokesperson Emily Lang

released a statement to the

Bristow News.

It read: "Some AT&T cus-

tomers in the Tulsa area may

have experienced issues with

their wireless and/or wireline

services earlier today due to a

fiber cut. Technicians worked to

resolve the issue as quickly as

possible, and all services are

currently running as normal.

We apologize for this inconven-

ience."

When asked, Lang would not

comment on where or how the

fiber was cut, or who was

responsible for the outage. Nor

would she respond to questions

on how many AT&T customers

were effected.
