Solution For a project of the BW Modeling Tools, it's only supported to attach a SAP HANA destination which corresponds to the SAP HANA DB used for the BW instance. The BW Modeling Tools compares the information from the BW application server (hostname/ IP address and instance number) with the available SAP HANA destinations configured in the SAP HANA Administration Console. Only SAP HANA configurations which match to the BW database information will be listed in the selection dialog. It's furthermore important to consider, that only SAP HANA destinations can be attached which have already the logged on state. In case the hostname of the SAP HANA DB registered on the BW application server cannot be reached by SAP HANA Studio (e.g. different domain), it's necessary to add an entry to the hosts file of the operating system. This new entry must map a reachable IP address of the SAP HANA DB to the hostname which is expected by the BW Modeling Tools. The following steps explains the configuration of the client operating system. 1. Detection of the DB IP address. In SAP HANA Studio open context menu on configured system and select menu entry "Properties". In the appearing dialog select the area "Database User Logon". Now the corresponding logon details will be listed. Open the tab "Hosts Used to Connect". In the provided list, there should be the hostname and the required IP address listed. Alternatively you can use the ping command of the operating system to get the IP address. For this step perform the command "ping <hostname>" in the command shell. In the first appearing line you will find the IP address. 2. Detection of the hostname used by the BW Modeling Tools Logon to BW server by SAP-GUI and open status dialog via menu: System -> Status... Take the BW hostname from the field "Host" in the section "Database Data". 3. Detection of used domain (optional) In case there are multiple domains involved in a BW server landscape, it's necessary to detect also the configured domain. For this step, start the report "RSPFPAR" in transaction SE38. Enter the value "SAPFQDN" into the first field and execute the report. In the appearing table you will find the domain in the "User Value" or "SysDefault" column. In case "User Value" is specified, this value should be preferred. 4. Add new entry to "hosts" file on client operating system. You can find the hosts file on MS Windows at the following location: c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. On Linux it's typically located here: /etc Add the following line to the file: <IP ADDRESS> <HOSTNAME> <HOSTNAME>.<DOMAIN> Please note, it could be necessary to copy the hosts file to different location, do the modification and then copy back the file to original location. Due to OS restrictions, it can be possible that the direct modification is not allowed. Now it should be possible to attach the HANA System to the project of the BW Modeling Tools. Also in case the host names still do not match, at least the IP address resolution of the operating system should now allow to attach the HANA System. 2103008 - HANA System cannot be attached to BW Modeling Tools due to network configuration Version 2 Validity: 01.12.2014 - active Language English (Master) Released On 01.12.2014 13:13:44 Release Status Released for Customer Component BW-MT Modeling Tools (Eclipse) Priority Recommendations / Additional Info Category Consulting

    Reason and Prerequisites

You are using the BW Modeling Tools and want to attach a SAP HANA destination to the project. The solution mentioned in note 2054930 did not help.

    Solution

For a project of the BW Modeling Tools, it's only supported to attach a SAP HANA destination which corresponds to the SAP HANA DB used for the BW instance.

For this step perform the command "ping " in the command shell. In the first appearing line you will find the IP address.

    2. Detection of the hostname used by the BW Modeling Tools Logon to BW server by SAP-GUI and open status dialog via menu: System ->Status...

    4. Addnewentryto"hosts"fileonclientoperatingsystem. You can find the hosts file on MS Windows at the following location: c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. On Linux it's typically located here: /etc Addthefollowinglinetothefile:. Please note, it could be necessary to copy the hosts file to different location, do the modification and then copy back the file to original location. Due to OS restrictions, it can be possible that the direct modification is not allowed.

Now it should be possible to attach the HANA System to the project of the BW Modeling Tools. Also in case the host names still do not match, at least the IP address resolution of the operating system should now allow to attach the HANA System.
