Attachment with ANSCO, Korea for NDT in Nuclear Power Plant Inspection

As a part of efforts taken by Nuclear Malaysia indealing with the possibility of Malaysia going intoNuclear Power, a senior scientist Dr Abd NassirIbrahim who is also the President of the MalaysianSociety for NDT (MSNT) has been dispatched to Koreaunder the Malaysian Human Capital Developmenty p p(HCD) Program. The visit that took place between 9thto 29th October 2010 was specifically tailored forMSNT President to acquire as much information aspossible in areas related to NDT and its role in theimplementation of Nuclear Power Program.

Having the necessary information, it is expected then that the President will helpg y , p prelevant parties to plan a strategy for the involvement of this technology right from theplanning to operational stages of nuclear power plants in Malaysia. In this program, the hostorganization ANSCO has made arrangements for MSNT President to visit organizationsconsidered as NDT main players in Korea such as KAERI, KEPRI, KRSS, Doosan and anumber of universities.

As a part of Japanese initiatives to help members ofNDT communities in the region, the Japanese Societyfor Non-destructive Inspection (JSNDI) has organized aspecial meeting from 23rd to 25th November 2010

The meeting that took place at the JSNDIHeadquarter at Akihabara was officiated by the JSNDIPresident, Prof. Yokono and attended by a number ofJSNDI officials and representatives of NDT Societiesfrom Malaysia India China Korea and Singapore

from Malaysia, India, China, Korea and Singapore.MSNT was represented by the President, Dr. Abd.Nassir Ibrahim. A number of activities expected toprovide impacts to the development of NDT in thisregion have been identified during this meeting andwill be implemented in 2011.

NTC on Digital Industrial Radiography, 8-12 November 2010The first ever National Training Course (NTC) onDigital Industrial Radiography (DIR) wassuccessfully held in Malaysian Nuclear Agency on 8-

12 November 2010. The course was designed toaccommodate the needs of industries andresearchers, to promote, utilize and establish DIRapplication in Malaysia. The course was attended by14 peoples and conducted by two experts, namely Dr.Uwe Zscherpel of Bundesanstalt fürMaterialforschung und –prüfung (BAM, Berlin) andMr. Khairul Anuar Mohd Salleh of DIR Laboratory,Malaysian Nuclear Agency. This course marks asignificant step to the development of industrialradiography in Malaysia.
