Where did it go? It seems like October just got started and now it’s gone. With all of the events happening in November and December, the New Year will be here be-fore you know it. Our last parade of the year is the Veteran’s Day Parade in Denver on Sunday No-vember 8th. Details and maps of the parade are in the Parade Corner on El Jebel’s home page. Monday, November 9th, will be a Family Night, held at the Consistory. Dinner will be at 6pm and the meeting will start at 7:00. There will be awards, Jew-els, Collars and 50 year pins presented followed by a hospital report that you do not want to miss. Information about our hospital system and videos will be presented by a hospital board representative. There will also be a Shriners Hospital patient and parents to tell us about their experience at one of our hospitals. Do not forget to sign up for dinner before Noon, November 6th. The Denver Consistory’s Fall Reunion will be November 12, 13, 14 and 16th. El Jeb-el’s Fall Ceremonial will begin after the Consistory’s session ends on Saturday, No-vember 14th at about 12:00. If you are there for the Reunion, stick around for the Ceremonial and help welcome our new Nobles. There will be no parade or tables for units at this Ceremonial. Also, on Saturday, November 14th, Operation Freebird will be happening 12:00 – 4:00. Note the new location this year. The event has been moved to Water World, 8801 Pecos St. Federal Heights, CO 80260. If you are not going to be at the Consis-tory, this is a good event to show our support to the Adam’s County Sherriff’s De-partment and their efforts to help families in need during the holidays. More infor-mation and maps are available on the El Jebel home page. Elections for your 2016 leaders will be held on Monday, December 14th, at the Con-sistory. There will be a program for our ladies during the elections, so bring your la-dy and don’t forget to sign up for dinner in advance. Deadline is Noon, December 11th. This is an important night for El Jebel. If you want to have a vote for our fu-ture, do not miss this meeting. I have been asked many times, “What is happening with the new building?” Build-ing permits typically take 8 -12 weeks to be issued. While waiting for permits, there are other activities and progress is taking place. The architect is working with the electrical engineer to complete detailed plans and bid packages are being put to-gether so that when permits are issued we will be ready to start construction right away. Some Nobles have asked if we can meet at the new building even though construc-tion has not been started. I say, “Why not?” If your unit does not mind the not-so-nice looking and incomplete space, and wants to hold unit meetings at the new building, call the volunteer desk and let them know the date and time of your meet-ing and we will have the building open for you. "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” - Socrates

He walked with men and understood.

His was a voice that spoke with cheer, And felt like music on the ear.

His was a smile men loved to see; His was a hand that asked no fee For friendliness or kindness done. And now that he has jour-neyed on, His is a fame that never ends---He leaves behind uncounted friends.

HOSPITAL’S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED AT HOSPITAL DAYS

Every two years, Shriners Hospitals for Chil-dren – Salt Lake City encourages Shriners, La-dies Oriental Shrine and Daughters of the Nile throughout the hospital’s large service area to attend “Hospital Days.” Supporters come from Colorado – including Hospital Board Member and El Jebel Shriner Ed McKenna – as well as Arizona, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, to hear important hospital updates, go on a tour, con-nect with likeminded hospital supporters for fun and fellowship, and celebrate the hospital’s 90th birthday.

The 2-day festivities kicked off on Sunday Sept. 13 with the unveiling of a special photo installation titled “The Resiliency Project” fea-turing patient portraits. Compelling black and white close-up portraits of the patients are juxtaposed by zoomed out, full body photo-graphs that reveal what makes them a Shriners patients – such a prosthetic or wheel-chair. The photographs capture moments dis-playing each child's personality – exhibiting they are an individual beyond their disability.

The Hospital Days lunch on September 14 saw the rededication of the Operating Rooms in the name of George and Neva Frohlick. They donated countless hours and more than $3 million to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Chief of Staff, Kristen Carroll, MD expressed heart-felt appreciation at the event for the Frohlick’s generosity. “The OR is the heart of the hospital–which is designed around providing the best medical care for the kids.” The next Hospital Days event will take place Sunday and Monday September 17 & 18, 2017, following “Walk for Love” on Saturday September 16.

El Jebel Family and Dance Band Report by Gene W King

One of the positive facts about moving, either your home, the office or the band’s mu-sic room, is that you get to get rid of the clut-ter collected over the years, in the bands case, somewhere over 40+ years!!

We recycled over six 35 gallon trashcans of just paper, old music, memos, old inventory sheets, minutes, etc.

We moved 14 file cabinets of music, about 30 boxes packed with music, copy ma-chine, musical instruments and other band items into Rick Frohlick’s warehouse. The Fam-ily and Dance bands current playlist music was moved to the Scottish Rite Consistory, where the bands are practicing (every Wednesday

evening). The bands will be playing at the SW mall

before Christmas (dates not established yet). The Family Band will play at the El Jebel

kid’s Christmas party, being held at the High-land’s Lodge, 3550 Federal Blvd, on Sunday December 20th from 2 -4 PM.

Most of the Shriners band members par-ticipated in the highly successful CSSA conven-tion, held in Golden, August 26th thru the 29th, culminating with a CSSA parade in Idaho Springs on Saturday the 29th.

Thanks to Marv Feldman for stepping up and volunteering to be CSSA Band Director when it was learned the original conductor couldn’t make the trip.

We had several practices and played at the Ladies Luncheon and the next day outside on the (covered deck) fortunately because it started raining shortly after we started play-ing.

For the parade, the CSSA band was transported in the El Jebel band trailer, hauled by Rick Frohlick and his brother-in-law.

For some great pictures of the entire event, go to www.eljebelshrine.org click on Photo Albums and look at Jim and Judy Tay-lor’s picture albums.

Chanters on Parade – Let’s Keep Growing By Nils Nordberg

It is a great feeling to be “on the street” as we participate in parades - watching and hearing the response of parade viewers to a busload of men singing familiar old songs. We are looking for the Denver Veterans Day Pa-rade to be a good finish to a great 2015 pa-rade season for the Chanters of El Jebel.

You will see and hear more of the Chanters at Stated Meetings and Ceremonials, and we welcome invitations from our Blue Lodge brethren to add our voices to your in-stallation of officers or your raising a new class of Master Masons. We have special music for installations and third degrees. Our next ap-pearance will be at Harmony Lodge’s installa-tion of officers on Saturday, December 12.

The Chanters are always on the lookout for a few more Nobles to add to the quality of our singing, and we also could use a couple of Nobles who can help out in some non-singing roles. If you play the organ, piano or electric keyboard, we would love to have you accompany us at rehearsals and performances. And we would like to find a Noble who enjoys working with microphones, cables, mixers, amplifiers, power supplies and speakers to pa-rade with us on board Boris. Let’s be ready for a great parade season in 2013.

6

We invite all Nobles who enjoy choral singing to come and sing with us as we pursue our mission of “Supporting Shrinedom Through Song.” Contact any of the Chanters’ officers – Pres. Rodger Peabody at ka0voy@ icloud.com or 303-424-5463; V.P. Phred Dare at [email protected] or 303-949-6709; or Director Nils Nordberg at [email protected] or 978-501-2806.

El Jebel Computer Club By George Van Trump

The Oct meeting was started with lunch at Davies’ Chuck Wagon Diner. Following lunch, a business meeting was held with 7 members and guests present. The treasurer’s report was read and approved. A discussion was held about donating to Children’s Christ-mas Party. A motion was made and approved to donate. It was also agreed to take pictures at the Party with one free picture given to each child whose picture was taken; additional cop-ies would be charged.

After the business meeting, Vic, club president, presented a program on “Creating a Reset Password Disk” for your computer. He had flash drives available so members could do this using a flash drive. He also emailed to each a copy of the procedures that he was us-ing to create this drive.

At the Club’s Nov 10 meeting, Vic will

review the Programs/Accomplishment of the past year. An election of 2016 officers will also be held at this meeting.

The Club meetings will be held, until fur-ther notice, on 2nd Tuesday at Davies’ Chuck Wagon, located at 10151 West 26th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. The meetings start with lunch at 11:30 am followed by our regular meeting at 12:45 pm.

All Shriners are invited to attend and join our Club; dues are just $12.00 per year; 1st year’s dues are free for new members. Wives and guests are always welcome.

If you have any questions, please con-tact George Van Trump at 303-232-3542 or at [email protected].

DARAJA By Ed Rendon Recently we lost one of our best leaders

we had. He was the laughter of our group. Swell Bill is now with the rest of Daraja bikers whom have gone before him to ride in the ce-lestial parades. We will miss his laughter and mix-up maneuver instructions.

Daraja welcomes our four new members to our group; Jim Dawkins, Mark Haddock, Tad Davis, and Doug Turner. They have already bought their uniforms and have ridden in sev-eral parades and have proven their ability to perform our fantastic maneuvers.

We also have a good friend of our group

who has graciously offered to maintain our bikes keeping them in top operating condition.

We have only three motorcycles availa-ble for any Shriner to ride in the parades. If you are looking in having fun and excitement, join our group of fun riding bikers. The last parade of our group is usually the Veterans Day Parade if it is not snowing or raining. As you might know, riding our cycles in the snow is not good for the rider.

If you just want to have fun and be a social member, call me and give me your name and email address and I will notify you of the date, time, and location of our next meeting. The meeting are held at different restaurants each month. Just call Ed at 303-841-8537.

As Swell Bill always said, “Keep smiling but watch out for those bugs”. Keep your tank full.

Directors Staff By Don Douglass Greetings to all Nobles and Ladies, at

the retirement community that I live in, there are four elevators and each one contains the same quote of the day. Sometimes they make sense and other times they do not. I will try to pick out a couple during the month that I think; you might enjoy and pass it along to you.

Quote – “In every vital activity it is the path that matters.” – Unknown

Quote – “To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.” – Francois De La Rochfoucauld

Quote- “The cardiologist’s diet: If it tastes good spit it out.” - Unknown

Quote- “Does running late count as ex-ercise?” - Unknown

Stated Shrine Meetings - Our November and December stated

meetings, and quite possibly our January, Feb-ruary and March 2016 meetings, will be held at Denver Consistory, 1370 Grant Street. Please see the Red Fez for details.

Director’s Staff Monthly Business Meet-ing –

Please see the Monthly Business meet-ing minutes to know the location of our next business meeting.

Work nights -

Our Director will notify us, as to where and when we need to meet for a work night.

Parades

Our next parade is the Veterans Day Pa-rade on Sunday, November 08, 2015. This is a call out parade and the last parade of the year. Therefore those of us that can attend, please do so.

XMAS Party -

7

Be sure to mark Sunday, December 06, 2015, on your calendar, for the Annual Direc-tor’s Staff Party. This party will be held at Dave’s Chuck Wagon, 10151 West 26th Ave-nue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, basically this is a little bit West of 26th and Kipling on the North side of the street. Please see future emails for cost and reservation time.

Nobles and Ladies, let’s keep everyone that is under the weather, as well as, our men and women fighting to protect our freedom, and those members of law enforcement, fire fighters, and paramedics in our thoughts and prayers.

DUNE BUGGY PATROL The Dune Buggy Patrol has enjoyed participating in all our parades this year but the highlight was the Central States Shrine Association (CSSA) com-petition held here in Denver this year. There were nine buggies that participated after several inter-esting practices with a rugged yet enjoyable rou-tine. The competition team had a time and cama-raderie finishing second in the drill and first in the obstacle competition. The best part was it was fun for all who came, out-of-towners and locals. There was a personal and team joy in having nine opera-tional buggies on the line. On behalf of all Dune Buggy Patrol nobles, a grand thanks goes to those who participated in the CSSA competition and all the other CSSA events. From feedback, the Golden Pub Crawl also should get a special mention. The “buggiers” were well represented. The Sportsmen’s Raffle was another success for the Patrol as our ticket sales for the Edwards Meat drawing raised needed funds for the patrol’s future endeavors. Another grateful thanks goes to all Pa-trol nobles who sold tickets and helped at the Raf-fle. The Patrol October Social had a great turn-out with seventeen nobles, family, and guests attend-ing. The BJ’s Brewhouse Restaurant graciously welcomed the Patrol and everyone enjoyed the food and libations. Toward the end of the evening, everyone sang Happy Birthday to our President, Bill Schwartz who was to celebrate it the next day. There is one more parade for the Patrol to shine. On Sunday, 8 November Denver will cele-brate Veteran’s Day with their parade in the down-town area. We hope all members with or without a buggy will join in the celebratory parade. See you there.

Medical Staff By Al Duey On October 2nd, another Outreach Clinic

was successfully completed at the Presbyteri-an/St. Luke’s Hospital. Only 38 were regis-tered to attend. As usual, there were a few “No-Show’s” as well as “Add-on’s”. Our Medi-cal Staff meeting followed the Outreach Clinic. There will be one more Clinic scheduled for De-cember 4th.

Joe Castellano our member and Divan Representative brought the idea to ask the parents of patients if they would sign up for

the 2015 Christmas Party. The “Sign-ups” have gone well. Next, they will receive an in-vitation to the party to be held on December 20th at Highlands Lodge which the Divan is sponsoring. Plan to join us to help with the Christmas Party. You will be intrigued and have fun.

It’s time to get your flu shots. Each Medical Staff member who volunteers for the Outreach Clinics must get the shot as required by Presbyterian/St. Luke’s.

Last month you read about the Medical Staff’s need for you to create a mindset to be aware of kids who might need help from our Shriners Hospitals. Here is another reminder to do so. It seems that people outside of El Jebel notify us of kids that qualify. Why not YOU?

Englewood Shrine Club by Don Phelps

November is the month of giving thanks for all the many blessing we receive. I really believe that we should do this every day of our lives.

Now I'm off the soap box and will talk about the great unit called the Englewood Shrine Club. We meet the second Saturday of every month (year round). Our November meeting will be on the14th at 5:30 pm. We will be meeting at Radiant Temple (2nd and Acoma). Our mission in life is to have good fellowship and food. From 5:30 until 6:30 is a social hour (beer is $2 and mixed drinks $3). Dinner is at 6:30 followed by music and dancing until??? The cost is $18 per person for dinner and dancing. Reservations are a must by calling Don Phelps 303-471-2481 or [email protected]. You don't have to be a member of the Club to participate.

Another thing we do is to join the Nile in a bus trip to Black Hawk on the second Thurs-day of each month (lots of fun). The cost for the bus ride is $10, which goes to the Club. We leave Highlands Temple (35th and Federal) at 10 am and return about 3:30 pm. The Casino gives you a $10 voucher to be used for food. If you have a card at the Casi-no they also give you $5 at a slot machine. If you are interested in going call me at the above number or just show up by 9:45.

Jeffco Shrine Club By Jim Cram We were pleased to have our Divan Rep.

John Zeaphey in attendance for the October 2nd luncheon. John was battling a bronchial problem and not feeling top notch, but fortu-nately he is in good hands as Margaret is an R.N. He reported on upcoming Shrine func-tions and the status of the move to the Aurora building.

Get Well Wishes are extended to Smoky

8

Yoritomo, Lew Maxson, and Glenn Moore. Smoky will soon be released after several weeks of rehab care. Jack Russell reported visiting Smoky when the speech therapist came in and used a ‘pocket talker’ amplifica-tion device to communicate with Smoky. It worked very well. Lew was sent to rehab be-cause of a reaction to medication he was tak-ing. He should be released after a few days of recovery. Glenn had gall bladder surgery sev-eral months ago and we have not been able to find out if he is back in rehab care. This just in…….Glen Moore is at Sandalwood Nursing Home – 38th & Holland, Wheat Ridge, recuper-ating from a broken ankle as the result of a fall. Surgery was performed at St. Anthony’s prior to being moved to Sandalwood. His phone number is 303-656-4237.

Herb Schillereff was recently invited to attend official promotion ceremonies at the 55th Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska. His great nephew Zeb Henderson was promoted to Captain. Herb was asked to “pin” Zeb’s right collar and his lovely wife pinned the left collar. The trip was great and he says that the best part of driving in Omaha is ‘no bicycles to dodge!”

Legion of Honor by Don Phelps We met in our new home in October af-

ter enjoying a Mexican Lunch across the street. Our new home is the Masonic Lodge on Morrison road between Alameda and Sheri-dan. We meet for lunch at 11:30 and have our meeting at 1 pm. We meet on the 4th Tues-day of each month.

Our November meeting will be on the 24th.

We are an International unit that con-sists of active duty and veterans of all branch-es of the military. We post colors and carry the colors in all parades the Shrine participates in. Our business meetings are for planning for these events and how we interact with the re-gional and International units. If you have questions please call me Don Phelps (303)-471-2481.

Loveland Shrine Club by Quentin Quilldipper

We have some outstanding players in the anniversary stadium this month:

Earle and Margaret Zander with 68 years and Bob and Edith Chenoweth celebrate 70 years! Wow! "I shall forever remember that cold night in November when the warmest of love brought us together."

At our October meeting Bill Hutchison aptly conducted us through the minutes and reports and Al Duey brought us up-to-date on the hospitals now offering expanded prosthet-ics and

orthotics. Remember the hospital refer-ral line: 800-314-4283.

A note to our shy members: you missed a superb dinner of garden salad, great beef stew, sourdough bread, and spice cake, all "to die for."

We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month; call Thad at 970-669-3069 for easy reservations.

MARINERS MINUTES WIDOWS BRUNCH OCTOBER 11, 2015 by Jim Ashley There were eight Mariners and their Ladies present. Also there were 4 Widows present at Just Cookin near 6th & Kipling. A good time was had by all and the Widows enjoyed it very much. It was announced that latter this year the MARINERS will be folding. No new members and down to three boats. The BRIDGE will meet later to fold the El Jebel Mariners. The SAFE that was auctioned off at the Sports-man's Raffle yielded a profit of $1127.00

NORTHEAST Colorado Shrine Club By Charlie Johnson

After months of blazing temperatures with little or no rain on our Prairie environ-ment, it was downright chilly on the drive to the monthly Shrine Club meeting. The leaves are turning and in many cases blown off their summer resting areas and the days are shrink-ing in length which signals that winter is com-ing. The warm days and cool nights that dom-inate this season of our year are pleasant and one wishes that they would last forever.

Our monthly meeting was completed in an efficient manner with a sprinkling of busi-ness dispatched by our membership. We heard reports from representatives of the Scottish Rite on the up-coming reunion, from York Rite officers announcing plans to receive the Grand High Priest and the Grand Master at their meetings this month. It was announced that Noble Jerry Thorndyke of our club, will re-ceive his 50 year pin and certificate for his dedication as a Royal Arch Mason.

Information was provided concerning the Research Lodge of Colorado and their meeting in Sterling as well as local Lodge schedules for degree work being exemplified. We even had time for some Masonic Education presented by our President Noble Jerry War-drip. It was soon time for all to go to work so we departed with Peace and Harmony prevail-ing.

As most of you know, our club meets for breakfast each month and we often bring our

9

Masonic friends to join us. So, our standing invitation is offered to all Masons to meet with us on the second Monday of the month at 6:00 a.m. at the Sinclair Overland Trail Café at the Atwood Exit #115 off I-76. We guarantee a hearty breakfast with lots of friendly Shriners.

Northern Seven Shrine Club By George Van Trump

The Oct 13 meeting was held at the McCoy’s Restaurant, Denver, CO, with 9 mem-bers and guests in attendance. The treasur-er’s report was read and approved. President Don discussed briefly the future meetings of our group. It was decided to continue meeting at McCoy’s.

The next meeting will be held at 12:00 am, noon, on Friday, Nov 13 at McCoy’s Res-taurant, 4855 Federal Blvd, Denver. At this meeting, we will have the election of 2016 of-ficers. Reservations are required by calling at Wes 303-423-7264 or Don at 303-452-2137. All are invited to attend this meeting including wives and guests. Shriners are encouraged to join. Dues are $15.00 per year; the 1st year’s dues are free for new members.

If you have any questions, please con-tact George Van Trump at 303-232-3542 or at [email protected].

OPTARS By J & J Taylor On October 6th the Optars met again at

Davies’ Chuck Wagon Diner for their dinner meeting. Ron Dunsmore shared a slide show,”Individuals with Disabilities”; this was a collection of photos of kids at their summer camp, of which he had spent almost 30 years. They were beautiful photos, and you could see by the kids’ smiles how happy they were to have counselors and people who care about them.

A “Shadows” report: Long time mem-ber, Bill Blankenship, passed away in August. Bill and Jan were active travelers and slide show presenters for many years. Since Jan doesn’t drive at night, she said she probably won’t be at our dinner meetings (maybe someone could bring her to a special one?)

At the business portion of the meeting, those present voted to donate $50.00 for a Poker Night gift card, and $200.00 for the Children’s Christmas Party. (Treasurer George assured us that the Optars will still be in good shape financially.)

Ed Hamm is working feverishly to as-semble some of our pictures for the Optarama in November. The showing is always some-thing special, and many members come out of the woodwork to see it! We will meet again at Davie’s Chuck Wagon, 10151 W. 26th Ave. (just west of Kipling). The pictures will be

mostly of scenes around the Colorado Railroad Museum, where we did our September photo-shoot.

Put on your calendar: December 1st; Optars will be having their annual Christmas dinner, again at The Homestead, (near Kipling and Hampden). Entertainment is being planned---stay tuned!

If you can come to the November din-ner meeting on the 3rd, call our Treasurer, George Moreno, 303-455-4174, so we can have a count---sort of !

Pipe Band By Kent Burns Well, what do you think of the new

building? It’s not as bad as it could be, alt-hough the location is rather interesting. Someone has to be there before 5:30 to let the rest of the Band in because the doors lock automatically. So there some of us sit on the planter enjoying the great fall weather, wait-ing for the rest of the Band, and the locals come parading through the parking lot, some with more than quizzical looks. Might prove to be interesting when it gets dark later on in the year. But we are lucky enough to have the third floor (for now) for practices. Not a whole lot of room to march around but we can play pipes, and that is the important thing this time of year.

Tony D. thought it might be interesting

10

to scare us last month, so he had a heart at-tack just to stir up a relatively quiet fall. They put in a stint (through his wrist, of all places) and sent him home a couple of days later. Says he may have to modify his diet but is back to his usual self. Tony, we would prefer it if you take it easy and try not to raise our collective blood pressure again! Sure was good to have you back at practice!

This month will see the Band performing for several Veterans Day observances includ-ing a concert with the Rocky Mountain Brass-works in Lakewood. We sorely miss the Air Force Academy cadets – they were so much fun to perform with and provided us with many rewarding opportunities to play with a brass band. Together we put on many shows from Chicago to Cheyenne to Aspen to Colora-do Springs and all points in between. Our fondest memories generally include the ca-dets. We are always looking for another brass band to give us more memories, and for now, the RMBw is fulfilling that ambition. The main difference is that with the cadets, we per-formed as equal partners; for this group we are only an adjunct. Sure miss Bill (Smith, the director of the AFA drum and bugle corps)!

Can’t get used to how quickly the time is flying by. Almost Thanksgiving (with Christ-mas just beyond) and just yesterday we were getting ready for Memorial Day. Seems to be a lotta truth to the old adage tempus fugit (when you’re having fun)! Here’s hoping all have a warm and fulfilling Thanksgiving. Don’t eat too much pie!

RADOPS By Sid Wright Once again the Black Camel has ap-

peared in our midst. It is with great sorrow we learn of the passing of Lee Greene, wife of our friend and brother Bill Greene. As RA-DOPS we all feel the loss, but the pleasant memories of time past remain. I’m sure we all extend our sympathy and prayers to Bill and his family.

There’s not been much reported RADOP activity this month. The only excitement was the repeater failure on October 9th, and its recovery to operation on October 11th. We are fortunate that Bob Kreutzer KE0SJ, was at the site on Sunday the 10th, and discovered the cause; a cracked and broken pin in a con-nector. How can a pin crack while plugged in-to its socket? We’ll never know. Many thanks to Bob who has helped the RADOPS several times in the past.

Here’s something that it might be fun to try because we all have HT’s. The FOX 1A sat-ellite is now in orbit. Fox-1A carries an FM re-peater that will allow simple ground stations using a dual band HT and an “arrow” or “elk”

type antenna to make contacts using the sat-ellite. Uplink is on 435.180 MHz using a 67 Hz PL tone. Down link is on 145.980 MHz. FOX1-A carries the designation AO-85. The only problem is you need a satellite tracking pro-gram to determine passage times. Anyone have one?

Below is a list of ham gear from an es-tate sent in by Rich Wall. It looks like some goodies in there. Contact him [email protected] or call 303-671-5167 .

El Jebel Vintage Iron Patrol By Wayne Covert

The holiday season is upon us soon. Seems like we were just doing the summer parades last week. I hope everyone had a great summer. I am looking forward to next year and hoping we can make our unit better. Since we have started having out members pick places to have our luncheons, we have had a very good turn out each month. This proves this is a social group, which enjoys be-ing together, and having a good time.

I would like you to welcome our new member to our unit, for those of you who were not in attendance to our meetings this year, they are, Cliff, and Naomi Addenbrooke, Randy, and Brenda Penn, Phil, and Christine Hause.

After the first of the year and ALL dues are paid, I mailed each member a new roster for 2015. IF YOUR DUES ARE NOT PAID YOU WILL BE DROP FROM THE ROSTER!

Don’t forget the Children’s Christmas Party December 20th. Bring your kids, grand-kids, and great-great grandkids if you have them. Fun for all to see Santa; don’t forget to R.S.V.P. Consult your Fez for more infor-mation. Now that we are in the process of construction of our new location, all the places we will be using for event until our new build-ing is done, please refer to you Red Fez for in-formation. We have had our monthly meet-ings this past year at Mickey’s Steakhouse, the second Thursday each month at 7:00. If you would like to have dinner, we meet at 5:30. Most of our business is discussed over dinner, which makes our meetings much shorter. As this has been brought up before, if you can find a better place to meet please bring it to the meeting, so we can vote on it. As most of you have e-mail, I sent out a F.Y.I. on our changed dates for the December social, I will send more information on time and place when I receive it. Thanks to all of the members that have helped and supported me this past year, I could not have done it without you.

Remember to keep it on the square and on the level, we are Masons first. Wayne.

Western Colorado Shrine Club By

Steve Thomas Our meeting was called to order by

Pres. Jerald Conyers at 11:45 am at the Grand Vista Hotel next to the airport in beautiful downtown Grand Junction. Chaplin Bob Ma-gos did the blessing for us and Sargent at Arms Roger Phillips led us in the Pledge of Al-legiance. Pres. Jerald welcomed and thanked all for coming and we had the honor of the presence of the Oriental Guide John Zeaphey in person. Minutes were approved as published and mailed. Correspondence: Pres. Jerald had a letter of thanks from Intermountain Salt Lake, thank-ing the Grand Junction Eastern Star for the knitted caps they sent over with him to the 90 year celebration.

Petitions: I have a Master Mason who is in the process of sending in his petition. Hope-fully for the Feb. Installation Party. Old business: El Jebel wants to have the In-stallation Party Feb. 6th as planned. We have ordered blue skies and 70 degree temps. Hospital Coordinator: Bob Emrich said we sent 2 patients to Salt Lake and 1 to Chicago. One more parade on Nov 7. Veterans Parade in Grand Junction will have been done as you read this or close to it. Activities Adviser: Jim Chaffee said, "Hope to see y'all at the election meeting on Nov. 9 af-ter the Veterans parade." Happy hour 5:30pm dinner at 6:30pm after elections watch football game. Then we see who gets in the barrel for 2016.

Then we have the Christmas party com-ing up Dec. 4th on a Friday. Ted Herrman says "If we had any steak, we'd have steak and

12

eggs if we had any eggs." New business: Pres. Jerald Conyers dis-

cussed Skyping with El Jebel after talking with Oriental guide John Zeaphy it was decided to try it with him at our next meeting.

Sickness and Distress: Bob Beeson had back surgery 10/15. The top surgeon in Grand Junction area at the helm. We are sure he will be on the mend very soon. Walt Wright's son, while traveling from Iowa to California had to have emergency gall blad-der surgery. Walt had to fly to (I think Minneso-ta) and help him get home and settled in. I un-derstand he was ready to go back to work in just a few days. Sorry to hear John Hall of Craig has been visited by the Black Camel. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family. Sargent at Arms, Roger Phillips has been declared can-cer free! Woo woo Roger! Bob Magos with his new stint--------- he takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

Clowns: Jerald "Grumpy" Conyers said there were 4 clowns at Green River and they had a ball. This happened as I was still under the weather with a flu bug. I had gone to Salt Lake hospital and was planning to clown with the kids Sept. 9th on our way to Seattle. Dry camped in their upper parking lot the night of the 8th and was told they were having a clinic the next day. I woke up with a terrible flu thing and didn't want to share it with the kids. Had 4 clowns at Fruita parade. Looking forward to the Scottish Rite kids Christ-mas parties in Grand Junction and Montrose. Tri-Co: Jacki and I were still fighting the flu and not wanting to share with the Tri-Co bunch. Dan and Jackie Gannon put on a fine feed and good company for all. We will meet at CB's in Delta Oct. 24th at 1pm. Hopefully we will all be back in the saddle. Meeting adjourned 1pm. May peace and harmo-ny prevail. Steve says: “Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in a dryer and come out wrinkle free and 3 sizes smaller?”

Meeters By George Moreno Unit president Joe Castellano and his

Lady Beverly attend a Shrine Membership workshop in Tampa. They brought home many great ideas to increase El Jebel mem-bership and to provide activities for the la-dies. A new unit that Joe intends to head up is a cooking unit – where Nobles share their cooking secrets and recipes. Details will need to be worked out as to how the unit would share the food they have prepared at the new Shrine building, as there are no cooking facilities. We are sure Joe will figure it out.

Beverly enjoys painting. A favorite subject is wild life. She frequently puts on art shows at various locations around town.

Her and Joe plan to establish a unit where Nobles and their Ladies come together to learn to paint. It was a running theme at the convention in Tampa that to build member-ship units must provide opportunities for No-bles and their ladies to spend time together. At home the Castellanos enjoy time with their four legged friends. They have a dog and a 2

cat. Jules is about 5 years old, a black cat with white highlights. She was given to them by Noble Chris Weymouth and his lady Judy. Webster, a brown and white cat loves to play with the scrabble pieces. Chico is about 6 or

7 years old. Beverly found him on the streets. He was so skinny it looked like he

came from a concentration camp. He shares

15

the bed with is loving human parents.
