100 Youth Attend 2nd SCNA STEAM Expo!

For the second year in a row, the Shingle Creek

Neighborhood Association hosted their Science,

Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM)

Expo!

100 youth from various schools including came

to display and discover more about the STEAM

disciplines. Many thanks to The Bakken for giving

a presentation entitled “War of the Currents”,

which wrapped history, mystery, and some

science to tell the story of Thomas Edison and

Nikola Tesla.

Hands on experiments lined the gymnasium at

Olson Middle school for the students to try.

From Herobotics robot shooting a ball for stu-

dents to catch, to shooting straw rockets

across the gym floor or sailing a sail boat with

a fan, or getting a shocking electric shock from

a friend! The room with filled with calculating

minds and high energy!

Many thanks to our partners on this project includ-

ing Minneapolis Public Schools, Owens Corning,

The Bakken Museum, Kids Wind, and our plan-

ning committee volunteers: Daren Johnson,

Melinda Stapley, Pam Owens, Julie Voight, and

Holly Constant for helping ensure the success of

our second event!

SCNA Celebrating 25th Year!

Hardly seems possible ! SCNA has been helping

our residents promote and improve this community

for the past twenty five years!

We’ve tackled many issues in that time, helped

residents improve their homes, helped various

youth programs, Creekview Park programs, plan-

ning, gardening, and hosted many events! For more

information on our accomplishments check out our

website at www.shinglecreekmpls.org

SCNA Partnering with Patrick Henry Herobotics

The Patrick Henry Herobotics team has been

partnering with SCNA for the past two years.

Herobotics has helped us by partnering on our

two STEAM Expos, Shingle Creek Clean up

events, and by attending various meetings to give

us feedback and provide a youth connection to

our events! We appreciate Mr. Sylvestre and his

robotics team and all the extra help they provide!
