My eyes stared at the tV thinking either the pilot must have fallen asleep to crash into a tall building. In every month of each year, many events are celebrated. forinstance, people celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, concerts, etc. However, september is a little different these

days. that’s because this september 11th is the 10th anniversaryof the “911” attack on american soil, and for many who sufferedlosses of any kind, this will be a difficult time to remember.

On september 11, 2011, we all will remember the attack onamerican soil that took place in New York and washington, D.C.,ten years ago. Unlike most anniversaries, this anniversary is nota celebration - it is a memorial that stands current in the mindsand hearts of many americans and others around the world. iusually do not remember exact dates and times, except for thebirth of my children, but this date and time will forever stand outfor me.

i can remember exactly where i was during the hour of theattack. Song of Songs3:1-5All night long on

my bed I looked forthe one my heartloves; I looked forhim but did not findhim. I will get upnow and go aboutthe city, through itsstreets and

squares; I will search for the one myheart loves. So I looked for him but didnot find him. The watchmen found me asthey made their rounds in the city. Haveyou seen the one my heart loves?Scarcely had I passed them when I foundthe one my heart loves. I held him andwould not let him go till I had broughthim to my mother’s house to the room ofthe one who conceived me. Daughters ofJerusalem, I charge you by the gazellesand by the Does of the field: Do notarouse or awaken love until it sodesires.”

One of the most misunderstoodbooks in the Old testament isprobably the song of solomon

or called by some, “the song of songs”.One may wonder how is it possible thatthere can be a Book of the Bible that doesnot mention the name of God.theologians have argued why this bookwas included into the Canon over theyears. My training tells me to first readthe Bible as it is. this is a love story andwe are reading a love letter.

Have you ever received a love letter? Not, roses are red, and violets are blue.sugar is sweet and so are you. No! i meana real love letter that is written from thedepths of one’s feelings that expresses thesecret thoughts, desires and dreams. alove letter your loved one has sprinkledon it a drop of the finest – perfume, whiteDiamonds; or cologne Hugo Boss. itreminds you so much of that specialsomeone that sometimes you do notreread it, you just smell the letter. Haveyou ever received a love letter whose lan-guage was so descriptive that you had tohide it between the mattresses of your bedto prevent anyone from seeing it? atemptations type love letter: you have asmile so bright, you could have been acandle; you holding me so tight, youcould have been a handle. Have you ever

received a love letter? that is what thesong of solomon is a love letter betweena bride and a groom. it was written by alove child – solomon.

You remember his father David and hismother Bath-sheba. David one day look-ing over his roof top saw Uriah’s wife,Bath-sheba. from that day he desired herand had her husband assigned to a dan-gerous mission after trying to convincehim to stay with his wife after David hadspent time with her. Uriah was killed inbattle and David took Bath-sheba as hisbride. Nathan, David’s Pastor comes tohim one day with a message from thelord.

there were two men in one city; theone rich and the other poor. the rich manhad many flocks and herds: but the poorman had nothing, save one little ewelamb, which he had brought up and nour-ished: and it grew up together with hischildren and was unto him a daughter. atraveler came to the king and instead oftaking one of his many flocks and herds;he took the poor man’s one lamb for thetraveler. David became angry against theman and said to Nathan, the man shallsurely die for doing this thing. Nathan

said, thou art the man and told him all ofthe evil he will bring upon himselfbecause of this terrible sin. David puts onsack cloth and ashes and says thesefamous words: Have mercy upon me, OGod, according to thy loving-kindness:according unto the multitude of thy ten-der mercies blot out my transgressions.wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Purge mewith hyssop, and i shall be clean: washme, and i shall be whiter than snow.Create in me a clean heart, O God; andrenew a right spirit within me. Cast menot away from thy presence; and take notthy Holy spirit from me. restore unto methe joy of my salvation; and uphold mewith thy free spirit.solomon was a wise child.if you would like to have the rest of this

week’s message please request it at: [email protected]

and civilians were killed in the Pentagonalong with all 64 people aboard the airlin-er. i was so shocked and scared because,at that moment, i knew now for certainthat america was under attack. i couldnot take my eyes off the tV. i had neverseen anything like that ever in my life, noteven at the movies. to my surprise andshock the other trade Center tower hadcollapsed. Besides me still on my kneespraying and asking God to be with thosepeople and their families during this dev-astating tragedy, all i could say was howcould a steel structural skyscraper thathad withstood winds in excess of 200mph and a large conventional fire, notwithstand the tremendous heat generatedby the burning jet fuel.

Close to 3,000 people died in andaround the world trade Center, includinga staggering 343 firefighters and para-medics, 23 New York City police officers, and 37 Port authority police officers whowere struggling to complete an evacua-tion of the buildings and save the officeworkers trapped on higher floors. Onlysix people survived in the world tradeCenter tower at the time of the collapse.six people out of 3,000 survived…anysurvivors was a miracle from God!almost 10,000 other people were treatedfor injuries, many severe.

the attackers were islamic terroristsfrom saudi arabia and several other arabnations. reportedly financed by saudifugitive Osama bin laden’s al Qaeda ter-rorist organization, they were allegedlyacting in retaliation for america’s supportof israel, its involvement in the PersianGulf war, and its continued military pres-ence in the Middle East. some of the ter-rorists had lived in the United states formore than a year and had taken flying les-sons at american commercial flightschools. Others had slipped into the U.s.in the months before september 11, andacted as the “muscle” in the operation.the 19 terrorists easily smuggled box-

cutters and knives through security atthree East Coast airports and boarded fourflights bound for California, chosenbecause the planes were loaded with fuelfor the long transcontinental journey.

this year, the nation need not ask whereis Osama bin laden or was there ever anOsama bin laden? the nation knows thatOsama Bin laden was real and asPresident Obama announced on May 1,2011, that Osama Bin laden is dead aftera firefight, a small team of americanforces killed bin laden and took posses-sion of his body, the president said.

we all remember the twin towers thatwas destroyed on september 11, 2001,marking the first ever attack on Us soil, now being replaced by a single sky-scraper. Construction on a new towerslowed down tremendously because ofcontroversies surrounding the new build-ing’s renaming from the original“freedom tower” in 2008, to “1 worldtrade Center”. Construction at GroundZero has begun and completion is set for

2013. take a look at the date, september 11th;

many of you may not realize that this isthe date of the first sunday of the regularseason of the Nfl opening weekend:Cowboys at Jets. Many have askedshould the games be played. was that dis-respectful? what about safety for boththe public and the players? remember, the faa took the unprecedented step ofgrounding every single airplane in the airin the immediate hours after the attacksand full ground-stopped and no one want-ed to get on a plane.where were you on september 11,

2001? will you continue to rememberseptember 11? the Elite News will, andso will i. the Elite News wants to askeveryone, all ages, race, nationality, cul-ture, or religion to stop whatever you aredoing at 11:50 a.m. on september 11, andtake a moment of silence for the 9/11 vic-tims and remember that this is the 10thanniversary in honor of those who werelost.

Every time i visit a city, i search outgood southern style cuisine, betterknown as down home cooking.

this past weekend, while in Orlando, florida attending the MEaC/swaCChallenge, i located Nikki’s Place soulfood & southern Cuisine, a stone’sthrow, in the southern sector just south ofDowntown Orlando. the food was tastyand good. Nikki’s served up everythingfrom smothered neckbones, fried chickenwings, beef tips, baked chicken, cabbage, mac n cheese, sweet yams, cornbread, tomatoes and okra, and much more. ichose the neckbones, yams, tomatoes andokra, cornbread and lemonade/sweet teacombination. it was all very good andmade for a great dining experience. infact, i returned the next day for breakfastbefore starting my day. it was just as sat-isfying.

Nikki’s is a small diner, exceptionallyclean, with a wonderful southern stylehospitality that we received from serverssharon and Cassandra, who also added a

few good stories and a bit of the historyof Nikki’s Place. Nikki and his staffmade us feel right at home. when weventure back through Orlando, we aresure to return for some more of thathearty home cooking and southern stylehospitality.

Nikki’s Place has a history dating backto the 1950s, when it was initially calledroser’s Bakery. Nick worked for thebakery for many years and then in 1999,became owner and entrepreneur. today,

Nikki’s Place soul food & southernCuisine is a flourishing operation ownedand operated by Nick and Elaine akins.

so, if you just happen to be travelingthrough Orlando, florida and crave goodhome cooking at a good price, look upNikki’s Place, located at 742 w. Carterstreet, Orlando, florida 32805; 407-425-5301, facebook.com/NikkisPlace [email protected]. You willnot be disappointed.

There’s always something specialabout HBCU football. this pastweekend was no different in

Orlando, florida. Driving up to the stadi-um, you could feel excitement and foot-ball in the air. Barbeque smoke every-where with all kinds of tailgating activityadded to the excitement before the game.

it was Prairie View a&M vs. Bethune-Cookman at high noon, at the floridaCitrus Bowl and Bethune-Cookmanturned out to be too tough for the PVPanthers. at every turn, PV could notcatch a break, because Bethune-Cookman took advantage of every singleopportunity. Every Prairie View missbecame an opportunity for Bethune-Cookman, and believe me, they were ontop of their game. there were no“angels in the Outfield” for Prairie View.

the MEaC/swaC is played at a neu-

tral site within one of the conferencesevery year. in 2005, the challenge wassouth Carolina state University vs.alabama state University with southCarolina prevailing with 27-14. in 2006,it was Hampton Univ. defeatingGrambling state Univ. 27-26. this year’sgame was the first meeting betweenPrairie View a&M and Bethune-Cookman. Needless to say, Bethune-Cookman stole the show with a score of63-14.

there is one thing we can always counton when attending an HBCU footballgame, the great tradition of a memorableband experience. Both bands were out-standing. Even though Bethune-Cookman’s band outnumbered PrairieView’s band, they both gave exciting andmemorable performances. Bethune-Cookman even had the audacity to callout Prairie View’s name during their per-formance. But nonetheless, PrairieView’s “the storm” held their own.

To let god o e s n ' tmean to

stop caring;it means i can't do

it for someone else.to let go is not tocut myself off...it's the realiza-

tion that i can'tcontrol another...

to let go is notto enable,

but to allow learning from natural con-sequences. to let go is to admit power-lessness, which means the outcome is notin my hands. to let go is not to try andchange or blame another, i can onlychange myself. to let go is not to care for,but to care about. to let go is not to fix,but to be supportive. to let go is not tojudge, but to allow another to be a humanbeing. to let go is not to be in the middlearranging all the outcomes, but to allowothers to affect their own outcomes. tolet go is not to be protective, it is to per-mit another to face reality. to let go is notto deny, but to accept. to let go is not tonag, scold, or argue, but to search out myown shortcomings and correct them. tolet go is not to adjust everything to mydesires, but to take each day as it comesand cherish the moment. to let go is notto criticize and regulate anyone, but to tryto become what i dream i can be. to letgo is not to regret the past, but to growand live for the future. to let go is to fearless and love more.

From the Mount

Dear Dr. Hollie,

Ihave been separated frommy husband for about 6months. we had been talk-

ing on the phone a lot duringthis separation, but making noreal plans of getting backtogether. i met a man about 3months ago, and i think it’sgetting serious with him. imet the man while at the gas stationpumping my gas. in those very few min-utes, we had an interesting conversation, and i wanted to know more about him.we exchanged numbers, and have spokenon the phone every day, sometimes twoand three time a day, for these fewmonths. we have not gone out because ihave been hesitant since i am still legallymarried. well, now i really want to goout with him, so i’m torn. i have decid-ed to start divorce procedures, but ihaven’t told my “husband” yet. i justwant to know what you think. am iwrong for “dating” even though i am stilllegally married? Do you think i am mak-

ing a mistake in filing for thedivorce because i only metthis new man a few monthsago?

Conflicted

Dear Conflicted, there is no reason to be

conflicted. if you are stilllegally married then you arestill legally married! You

should not file for divorce based on meet-ing this man. Divorce should be based onirreconcilable differences and not basedon a relationship with this other man.Give yourself a chance to end one rela-tionship before entering a new one.

Our churchs c h o o ll e s s o n

w a s“righteousnessand wisdom”from Proverbs3:1-12.this was avery timely lesson

because thereseem to be noreal lack ofknowledge but a

great lack of wisdom in our societytoday. we do do well to pay close atten-tion to the wise admonitions ofsolomon. an intresting point of the les-son was that solomon not only gavewise advice but he also showed whatreward following it would bring.Ourmorning message was delivered byPastor lloyd Morgan from the subject“in remembrance of Him” isa 53:1-12.we need to understand that love isreciprocal, if a person shows love toyou, you should return love in kind. inlife there are givers and takers, giversfind joy and fulfillment in showinglove, while takers think they should

receive love always but never give it.Jesus was a giver of love. Jesus said inJohn 15:13-17 “Greater love hath noman than this, that a man lay down hislife for his friends”. Jesus loved theunlovable even unto death. for thosethat may have forgotten and take thecommunion service lightly let me tellyou today that our salvation may befree to us but it is not cheap, it costheaven its best. Each first sunday it hasbeen the custom of the New testamentchurch to gather and participate in thecommunion service. this is the way inwhich the church have always respond-ed to Jesus commandment in luke22:19-20; and he took bread, and gavethanks, and brake it, and gave untothem, saying, this is my body which isgiven for you: this do in remembranceof me. likewise also the cup after sup-per, saying, this cup is the new testa-ment in my blood, which is shed foryou. Every believer should look for-ward to and participate in this greatoccasion.

Be blessed!

Let’s considerour attitudeor position

in prayer, by com-paring our practicewith that of thereligious people ofJesus day. therewere rules aboutlooking towardsthe temples or theidols which repre-

sented God. there were holy rugs uponwhich to stand or kneel. sometimes thereligious person would “lift up holyhands” at other times fold the hands.Often would be prostrated on the ground,or in a kneeling position, with the palmsof the hands on a rug with the foreheadtouching the ground before each position.Christ placed little or no emphasis onthese outward physical manifestations inprayer, but he was deeply concernedabout the attitude of the heart.

while in Dallas, he graduated fromthe Mesquite Horn High school witha 3.9 G.P.a. He also joined the Newleaf Missionary Baptist Church andwas baptized by the rev. r.O.Moffett.

He is a freshman at the Universityof Kansas, the Jay hawks and his jer-sey number is 89. Please look out for

this outstanding young man. this past saturday the University

of Kansas, played McNeese stateand JaCorey made 3 catches for 107yards. He had one for 56 yards andanother for 48 yards both of whichwere touch downs. He became thefirst freshman to get over 100 receiv-ing yards in his first game.

wide receivers coach David Beatysaid shepherd’s physical skillsremind him of another wide receiverhe coached in Jacksonville Jaguar’sJarett Dilliard. JaCorey is very quickwith good feet and great accelera-tion,” Beaty said. “His work ethicreminds me a lot of a Kerry Meiertype of guy. that’s high praisebecause Kerry was a guy you wouldhave to run out of the locker roombecause was watching so much tape.

i am very pleased with howshepherd is beginning his career.”

Jacorey’s father describes him asa very humble, hard working andmature young man with big goalsand dreams to one day play in theN.f.l.

After watching theCowboys play this pre-season games we also

watched Jason Garrett in his firstfull head coaching season.

i see an awful lot of JimmyJohnson coaching Philosophy, and apparently JerryJones is allowing him to get it done.

the first thing Jimmy did was get rid of some guysthat settle into that losing routine. Michael irvin washere a year ahead of Jimmy and gave Jimmy a list ofguys that accepted losing. Jason made his own list.

Marion Barber is the first to come to mind. Marionchose to try and break a tradition that had been in placesince the 60’s. Every coach the Cowboys had requested

players and media to wear coat and tie when gettingon Cowboy charter going out of town. You can wearwhat you want to coming back home. with Coat andtie, crew or turtle neck, Marion wanted to look like hewas going fishing.

aside from attitude, i think the Cowboys got bet-ter running back that is fast. felix Jones got smaller.DeMarcus Murray and Phillip tanner are much fasterthan Choice and Barber.

as far as smaller and faster running backs, Jason gotsmaller and more athletic in the offensive line. thesenew offensive linemen can get outside plus they arefast enough to run screen passes. that is something thathasn’t been done in this town since tom landry left.

thanks to Brady James who suggested that some ofhis teammates came here looking for entitlements.they thought super-bowls came with being a Cowboy.Brady James himself is probably in his last season withthe Cowboys but for sure it will be his last year as astarter.

leonard Davis, Mark Columbo, andre Gurode aside

from being too big and slow, they were too old, and youknow they had way too much influence in the lockerroom.

troy aikman says if they don’t win this year theyshould blow it up and start all over. if you cut threeoffensive linemen, a starting running back, and a start-ing wide receiver, it would appear to me that somethingto that affect has already started.

Maybe next year they will look at the other side ofthe ball. i knew terrence Neuman was going to have agroin pull in March. terrance had these problems everyyear. He will have a couple more this year. i don’t wantto predict doom, and gloom, but felix Jones will watchsomebody else run and pull a hamstring or groin. thosetwo will definitely get injured. as for felix, i wouldn’tadvise getting hurt too often. Misters Murray andtanner got you in their sights. You don’t have that lux-ury anymore, stay healthy man. i hope they soon takethat luxury away from terrence Neuman

Gregg a. smith & James Butler BringCool Blues to red Hot & Blue GrillDuncanvillefor the second time this

summer, master balladeer Gregg a. smith andguitarist extraordinaire James louis Butler haveteamed up to bring the blues to customers at thered Hot & Blue BBQ Grill 106 East Highway67 @ Main st. Duncanville, tX. this eventtook place on september 3rd from 8 pm to 10pm and both the entertainers, customers and staffhad a great time. James Butler led off the eventwith his experienced touch on the guitar singingboth new and old tunes and interacting with thecrowd. His masterful playing kept the crowdmesmerized and involved in the performance.at one point he even had the crowd doing the“bird”.after he got the crowd warmed up Gregga. smith came on to do what he does best, sere-

nade the ladies with his Barry white like vocalskills. He sang songs from the old school, andtracks from his Greatest Hits album like “stuckOn You” with James adding hot licks in thebackground. the crowd was larger and stayedlonger than the first event which is a testament tothe drawing power of these two talented per-formers. i’m sure they are looking forward totheir next performance at the red Hot & BlueGrill.

Gregg a. smith’s latest album is “foreverYoung” which can be found at forever Youngrecords in Grand Prairie and James Butler’s lat-est album is “why Did U answer My Cellphone?”, available on itunes and Butlerrecords.
