Hiking and Birding Guide  This beautiul ull color map includes de- scriptions o 40 popular hiking trails and great birding spots along the Kodiak road system. You can purchase your waterproo guide or $12 at many local businesses. Proceeds support environmen tal pro- grams o the Kodiak Audubon Society. Kodiak, Alaska Hike! Welcome!  The Kodiak Audubon So- ciety invites you to join us or a stroll, a hike, or a climb! Volunteers lead hikes on our beautiul island. Meet your hike leader at 9:30 am in ront o the Kodiak Island Conven- tion & Visitors Bureau (Ferry Building) at the end o Center Avenue, down- town. Check the schedule inside or dates, des- tinations, and difculty levels. Important Notes You may participate in these hikes at your own risk and should be aware o dangers in the wilderness and your own limits. Only select trips with a level o diiculty you can manage (# 1 is the easiest level). Let the trip leader know about any prob- lems you may have. Children are welcome i accompanied by a responsible adult and i the trip is not too strenuous (e.g. # 1 type hikes). Dress appropriately or Kodiak’s cool and wet climate. Carry rain gear and use the lay- ering principle. Wear good quality water- proo hiking boots. Bring a snack or sand- wich, water, camera, and binoculars to enjoy the wildlie and the glorious vistas.
