AUF-FAA elects new set of officersVOL. 15 NO. 1 JANUARY - JUNE 2015
The Alumni Associations o f A n g e l e s U n i v e r s i t y Foundation had elected the new set of Federation of Alumni Associations (FAA) officers for the academic year 2015-2017 at the AUF St. Thomas Aquinas Audio-Visual Room on May 26, 2015. The nine presidents from various alumni Associations elected among themselves the new set of officers.
This general assembly of alumni associations’ presidents is considered a milestone in the history of FAA. It is for the first time that the Integrated School Alumni Associations’
(ISAA) president was officially included in the assembly as mandated by the FAA constitution and by-laws.
The following are the newly elected officers of FAA: President - Mrs. Mae M. Corpuz, BS Psychology 1988; Vice President - Engr. Mark Angelo M. Martinez, BS Civil Engineering 2012; Secretary - Ms. Daisy S. Yap, BS Computer Science 1999; Treasurer - Dr. Elmer D. Bondoc, BS Nursing 2006; Auditor - Engr. Eriko V. Matulin, High School 1983 and; Press Relations Officer - Dr. Nestor C. De Guzman, BS Education 1994.
The Integrated School Alumni Associations (ISAA) was officially included as the newest member of the Angeles University Foundation Federation of Alumni Associations (AUF-FAA) on March 28, 2015. This milestone was made possible after the amendments were made in the AUF-FAA constitution and by-laws by the executive board headed by its president, Mr. Rogelio G. Santos.
O n e o f t h e m o s t significant amendments made in the AUF-FAA constitution and by-laws is the renaming of the member alumni associations. Such amendment will make the names of alumni association
more flexible to changes, also it will allow for the inclusion of the AUF Elementary and High School Alumni Associations (EHSAA). Previously, the members of AUF- FAA were n a m e d C o l l e g e A l u m n i

AUF-FAA, CAAs hold 2nd leg of APDSThe Federation of Alumni Associations
(FAA) in partnership with various College Alumni Associations (CAA) held the 2nd leg of Alumni Professional of Development Seminars (APDS). The last four seminars of the seven scheduled programs discussed topics on Stress Management, Personality Development, Health and Wellness and Professionalism. The College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School Alumni Associations sponsored the January 31, 2015 seminar with a title “Stress and Conflict Management. Dr. Carmela S. Dizon, Ph.D. in Education, Major in Educational Management 2000 and Dean of the AUF Graduate School served as the resource speaker. Former Mayor of Capas, Tarlac and the present Vice President of Clark International Airport, Dr. Reynaldo L. Catacutan, BS Criminology 1987 shared his expertise in the seminar dubbed “Personality Development” sponsored by the College of Criminal Justice Education Alumni Association in February 28, 2015.
Meanwhile, Dr. Noel M. Laxamana and Mr. Joven L. Gozun, graduates of Doctor of Medicine 2005 and BS Physical Therapy 2000 respectively graced the activity as the resource speakers on the topic Health and Wellness: Happy Living through Healthy Lifestyle last March 30, 2015. This seminar was sponsored by the College of Allied Medical Professions and School of Medicine Alumni Associations. Lastly, on April 25, 2015, the College of Nursing Alumni Association organized the seminar on Professional Ethics and Spirituality with Mrs. Mary Angelica P. Bagaoisan, BS Nursing 1994 as the resource speaker. All seminars were held at the St. John Paul II Hall of the Professional Schools Building.
The APDS aimed to further enhance the professionalism of the Angeleanean Alumni. The topics were chosen based on the results of the Employer Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Office of Alumni Affairs and Placement Services.

FAA supports crim studeOne of the goals of the Angeles University
Foundation Federation of Alumni Associations (AUF-FAA) is to provide scholarship to poor but deserving students. Lindsay Louise T. Nabong, an incoming BS Criminology 3 student was given by AUF-FAA a scholarship grant. Nabong works as one of AUF’s student assistants and her tuition fee and monthly allowance are being shouldered by the AUF-FAA since her first year in college.
Academic year 2015-2016 will be the start
of a different AUF-FAA scholarship scheme for Nabong as announced by Mrs. Mae M. Corpuz, the newly elected AUF-FAA President. Nabong will no longer work as a student assistant for the university but will still continue to receive financial assistance from AUF-FAA to cover her tuition fee. This change in the scholarship scheme of AUF-FAA will further help Nabong to focus more on her studies, thus helping her to achieve her dream of becoming a police officer in the future. Nabong

Outstanding Angelenean Alumni = Most Outstanding Kapampangans Two of the Angeles University
Foundat ion Outstanding Alumni were named as Most Outstanding Kapampangans in 2014. Engr. Rafael C. Yabut, BS Civil Engineering 1976 was named as the Most Outstanding Kapampangan for Government Service and Dr. Nicolas T. Capulong as the Most Outstanding Kapampangan in Education.
Engr. Yabut, former Undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways also completed his Masters in Public Administration degree at AUF in 1996. On the other hand, Dr. Capulong earned the following degrees at AUF: BS in Education 1986; cum laude; Master of Arts in Education 1991 and; Ph.D. in Educational Management 1996. Currently he is serving the Department of Education as the Angeles City Schools Division Superintendent. Yabut Capulong

named as one of the three recipients of the Thompson Health Quality Service Awards given by Singhealth. Vitug finished her BS Nursing in 1991, batch Kayantabe. The award is given to healthcare professionals who deliver exceptional services. She is presently working as one of the Nurse Managers at Thomson Medical Center, Singapore.

The Metrobank Foundation, in support of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) named the 2014 Metrobank Outstanding Teachers. Dr. Matrose P. Galarion, Ph.D in Educational Management 2006 was one of the 10 teachers who were awarded. Galarion is currently teaching at the Angeles City National High School.
The Metrobank Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT) is considered as the country’s most prestigious and sought-after award for Filipino teachers. This search was first launched in 1984 and it is now celebrating its 30th year (www.mbfoundation.org.ph).

The College of Nursing Alumni Associations (CON-CAA) organized another professional development seminar on February 3, 2015 at the St. Cecilia’s Auditorium. The seminar was entitled “The QUEST FOR ZERO” and Ms. Suzette D. Magtoto, BS Nursing 2010 graduate served as the resource speaker. The seminar focused on the delivery of Contemporary Evidence
practiced by international nurses regarding Infection Control, which is one of the primary causes of prolonged hospital confinements of patients. Magtoto is currently a charge nurse at the surgical unit of the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. She is also the Nursing Quality Improvement Officer of the same hospital.

Angelenean Alumnus Gets US Scholarship

Angeles University Foundation (AUF) summa cum laude graduate Norence Aaron P. Tan was named as one of the 15 scholars who will pursue a master’s degree in Business and Science at Rutgers University in New Jersey under the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Science, Technology, Research, and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) Program. Tan bested other applicants in the rigorous nationwide screening by a panel of Filipino and American scientists. The awarding ceremony last June 19 was led by US Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg. Tan finished BS Information Technology in 2013 and was named as the AUF Outstanding Student for Science and Technology, among his many other local and national distinctions.
The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association (CAS-CAA) organized the second mangrove planting in Sasmuan, Pampanga on February 7, 2015. The activity was in coordination with the local Government of Sasmuan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Lingap Balen. This second mangrove planting activity is part of the “Isandaang Piso para sa Isandaang Taon” project organized by CAS-CAA. The project aimed to provide environmental support and protection to those living in the coastal communities of Sasmuan.

S e v e n t h o u s a n d mangroves were planted along Pasac River. This site was identified by the Biodiversity Management Bureau and DENR as Mangrove Enrichment Area. Prior to planting in this new site, the alumni first visited Bangkung Mapalad the first mangrove planting site. The first mangrove planting was held on November 24, 2014.
Mangrove forests are essential parts of the ecosystem since they serve as breeding grounds for aquatic organisms. Furthermore, they alleviate the impact of typhoons and storm surges on coastal settlements. They also protect groundwater from salinization.

The Angeles University Foundation – Office of Alumni Affairs and Placement Services (AAPS) in partnership with the Federation of Alumni Associations (FAA), College Alumni Associations (CAA) and University Student Council (USC) held its annual University Career Fair on January 30, 2015 at AUF Sports and Cultural Center. The career fair was participated in by the graduating students and alumni of the university. The activity aimed to provide assistance for securing pre-employment requirements and job opportunities. There were 34 companies and government agencies from the Region and Metro Manila which conducted initial screening and interview. The students and alumni were also fortunate to have the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) release clearances, which is a basic requirement for employment application both local and abroad.

T h e A n g e l e s U n i v e r s i t y Foundation – Office of Alumni Affairs and Placement Services (AAPS) in partnership with the Federation of Alumni Associations (FAA), College Alumni Associations (CAA) and University Student Council (USC) organized the first Human Resources (HR) Managers’ Forum in January 30, 2015 at the AUF Sports & Cultural Center. This activity coincided with the annual University Career Fair. The forum aimed to strengthen the
relationship between the university and its industry-partners. Moreover, it is geared towards bridging the gap between the academe and the industry.
Ms. Geraldine S . Panli l io , Assistant Director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region III graced the forum as the resource speaker. The event was participated in by the HR Managers of various companies who were present during the University Career Fair.

CAMP celebrates 25th year
CAMP Alumni during their Grand Alumni Homecoming at AUF-SCC in June 13, 2015.
The College of Allied Medical Professions Alumni Associat ion (CAMP-AA) s taged a Grand Alumni Homecoming on June 13, 2015 at the Angeles University F o u n d a t i o n S p o r t s a n d Cultural Center (AUF-SCC). This homecoming is the
culmination of CAMP’s 25th founding year celebration. Dr. Joseph E.L. Angeles, AUF University President graced the activity and led the awarding of successful graduates and licensure topnotchers of the college.
College memorabilia and
photographs were exhibited for the alumni to reminisce their student years. Moreover, the new CAMP-AA officers were elected during the homecoming.
Aside from the Grand Alumni Homecoming, CAMP-AA also organized a Movie-
for-a-cause on April 24, 2015 at SM Clark cinema. The proceeds of this activity and the zumba-for-a-cause were used during the Grand Medical Mission on May 30, 2015 at the AUF twin building lobby.

CEA Holds Grand Alumni HomecomingThe College of Engineering
and Architecture Alumni Association (CEA-AA) held the “Balik Tanaw Inhinyero” a Grand Alumni Homecoming on April 18, 2015 at the San Antonio de Padua Hall, L & S Subdivision, Angeles City. The
homecoming was sponsored by the civil engineering (CE) alumni and specifically hosted by CE 1990. It was participated in by approximately 300 CEA alumni. The night was filled with fun, games, food, drinks and memories. It was
highlighted by the presence of the CE alumni batch 1968 to 1979. According to the organizers, (Engr. Rodale Olea - CE 1990, Dr. Mary Grace Dauz-Brackett, Engr. Belle Cubacub-
Garcia, Engr. Arleen Valdez-Cunanan, Engr. Angelito David, Ms. Grace Dizon-Dela Cruz and Engr. Eriko Matulin) this will become an annual event of the CEA-AA.
