Dearly beloved in Christ, It gives me great joy to greet you all through this letter in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s Praise God for all the blessings we receive last month. The third Sunday of this month ( August 18) is set apart as Reformation Sunday. We all know that our church underwent a reformation on biblical basis and regained the faith of the early church during the pre-colonial period; specifically, the pre Portuguese period. Historical research into the faith and practices of the ancient church of Malankara shows that there were no traces of the practices of prayer to the dead or for the dead, the mediatory role of Virgin Mary, the auricular confession to priests, the use of images within the church building, the celibacy of the clergy, etc. Those practices were introduced later by the Roman Catholics and the Jacobites. The attempt of Abraham Malpan was not to create a new church, but to cleanse all that had crept into the church from outside. When we got the Bible in Malayalam for reading we purged all that were contrary to the biblical teachings. Thus, our faith and practices are in tune with that of the early church and is evangelical (biblical). We should be proud of our heritage and teach our younger generation the good things of our church. We are a family-oriented community, and so we cannot accept any changes that undermine the basic values that are relevant and good for our wellbeing. It is good for our community not to experiment the new tendencies whether it is same sex marriage, living together (cohabitation), or anything that undermines the core ethical values of our traditional families. The Bible strictly reminds us: Do you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person (1 Cor.3:16-17).

This is a time to prepare ourselves for a Holy Living that our Holy Father expects from His children. We should find time for family prayer, meditation of the Word of God, and interceding for those who are sick, undergoing stress in work places as well as in families. I wish all the best to our children in the new academic year. I encourage all the parish members to participate in the upcoming events especially the parish picnic and convention which are going to be held this month.
