NOTICE

We are replacing the stockings for soldiers sew-in with a sew-in for comfort quilt squares, neo-natal quilts, or making something for the quilt show boutique. Bring anything you would like to work on. Sewing is from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2nd. Lunch will be on your own or brown bag it. Come for a day of sewing and fellowship and stay as long as you like. There will be a business meeting and show & tell at the usual times.

Welcome to the 38th year of Sinnissippi Quilters, Inc. Through the years

the Guild has evolved but the purpose has remained the same:

*To educate the community and ourselves on all aspects of quilting

*To preserve and appreciate our quilting heritage and traditions

*To use our sewing gifts to benefit other community organizations

Just as the Guild has made improvements over the years, our own skills

and styles have changed since each of us began quilting. We learn from

our presenters and workshops but also from our fellow quilters. Partici-

pating in this year’s Quilt Show is one more way to spread our wings,

learn new skills or enhance those we already have, and get to know other

members. Being on the Board has given me the opportunity to get to

know many more of you than I did before. Try something new this year to

benefit the Guild and you. Volunteer for or participate in something that is

outside of your comfort zone. Let us grow together in quilting skills and

relationships with members.

And I am grateful for your kind words, helpfulness and ideas for meet-

ings. We will try to have meet everyone’s wants sometime during the

year through guest presenters, Guild member presenters, workshops,

sew-ins, round-table discussions/skill building and time to socialize.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve this very talented and skilled

organization.

30 Year Pins Available: Barb Lange presented a design for a 30-year pin at the

July, 2010 meeting. The design includes the “Hands All Around” block and com-

memorates our 30th anniversary in 2009/2010. Pins are available for $5 from Special

Projects.

Day of Sewing - comfort quilt squares, neo-natal quilts, or projects for the quilt show boutique

Mini-Morning Workshop

Everyone is invited to join us before the guild meetings. The workshop starts at 9:30am through 11:30am.

You can join the group that goes to DiTullios, 2207 E State Street, across the parking lot, for lunch or bring your

lunch and join the group at the church.

If anyone has a suggestion for a project or would like to lead a project please contact Jan Person.

Sept. 6th

In September you will have a choice of making a Snowman Wall Hanging or a Dresden

flower table runner. Samples will be on display at the August meeting.

The completed snowman project is 12”x24”.

The project is featured in the November/December 2015 Fons & Porter Love of Quilting.

Materials List: 1 fat quarter blue print for the appliqué background, 1 fat quarter multicolor print, ¼

yard print for hat band, sashing and border, 10” square whit print for snowman, 6” black print for

hat and arms, 6” square for scarf and nose, 1 fat quarter strip for binding, paperbacked fusible

web, 2 (1/4” diameter) black buttons for eyes, 2(1/2” diameter) black buttons for buttons on the

snowman, 4 (5/8” diameter) snowflake buttons, ½ yard backing fabric and 16”x28” rectangle of

quilt batting.

The Dresden flower table runner is a perfect way to use a Charm pack. The project is featured in

the May/June 2014 Fons & Porter Love of Quilting.

Material List: ½ yard light colored fabric for the background, ¾ yard print fabric for the border and

binding, 30 (5”) squares assorted prints for the flowers, 3 (5”) squares for the flower centers, EZ

Dresden template or template material to make your template, small amount of fusible web.

Our Quilt Show - May 4th & 5th, 2019 - is now less than one year away! It will be here before we know it.

Many, many thanks to Barb Clucas for stepping up to be our Co-Chair, we appreciate it so. I would also like to

thank all of you who made blocks for the raffle quilt, and so quickly! Margaret de Leon and Mary Leach have

been working hard to organize it, now to assemble and finish, and we thank you.

There are more opportunities for all guild members to be involved with the Quilt Show as it gets closer. Besides

working on your quilt creations to enter in the show, perhaps consider making something for the Silent Auction.

When you’re cleaning and organizing your sewing space, set aside those patterns, tools and fabric you no

longer need - to donate for the Boutique to benefit the Guild.

Remember this is our major fundraiser that supports our Guild’s programs, speakers, and charity work for two

years. Our Quilt Show Publicity needs all of

us to promote the show by telling our friends,

family, and groups, and by using social media

to spread the word. Even though it’s a year

away, it’s not too early to be talking about the

June 7, 2018

Dawn Thompson from the Mississippi Valley Quilt Guild was present to sell tickets for their raffle quilt prior to their show on September 21-22, 2018. Paper ballots of the Slate of Officers for the 2018-2019 and new Budget were available to membership. Margaret de Leon and Mary Leach presented the completed Raffle Quilt to membership. The quilt is 95” x 95” and will be long armed by Cindy Gackstetter. Program: Margaret Willingham spoke on technique of reverse appliqué. She explained her technique process and showed numerous quilts. Treasurer’s Report: Checking Account and Money Market Account balances were presented to the guild membership. Publications: Newsletter items are due by July 15th for the Aug/ Sept. 2018 newsletter. Membership: Barbie St. Aubin announced that attended afternoon meeting. A total of $3 was collected of stocking for soldiers. Members were encouraged to bring wallet size picture of themselves to be added to the membership board. Drawing winners were: name tag - Susan B. Williams; birthdays - Barb Lange; show and tell - Beth Faust. Julie Cuccinelli announced that 25 members and 1 guest were in attendance at the evening meeting. Also membership was reminded to pick up a card and bring a photo to the next meeting. Membership dues ($30) and updates for directory are due in September. Special Projects: Norma Copes reported that the guild has made 146 neo-natal quilts so far this year. For the month of May, the guild donated 12 quilts to Mercy Health and 11 to Sweds UW Health. Reminder to bring President’s blocks for Anne to the July meeting as she will be out of town. Mini-morning Workshop: July’s workshop will be making a snowman wall hanging. Information will be posted on the guild website. 2019 Quilt Show: Phyllis Campbell indicated to the membership the quilt show is eleven months away. She provided information regarding a National Parks Quilt exhibit of all 177 quilt pieces will be on display from 6/17 to 7/3 at four locations in the Forest reserves of Will County in Joliet, IL. Karen Grover presented the quilt show challenge titled ‘It’s All About the Color’. Members are encouraged to make a 6” x 42” quilt made from the color the member is assigned. Silent Auction items and items for the Boutique will be accepted starting in January after the holidays. CVL Workshop: Cecilia Mann informed the membership that the next workshop will be June 23rd at the Cherry Valley Library. The group will be working on circles, polygons and free motion quilting. More information will be posted in the Guild’s website. Old Business: Stockings for Soldiers - Phyllis, Zeta, Marie and Anne went to the Storage unit to take inventory on supplies left from the Soldier’s Stocking project. The items that were no longer useful included the following: books, DVDs and other items that soldiers now download on devices rather than have the actual items. These were given to the library. Toiletries were give to Carpenter’s Place; pens and toiletries were given to Rock House kids; remaining toiletries were given to Rescue Mission. The stockings, which number about 20 boxes with 100 stockings in each, will be given to an organization in Manhattan, IL New Business: Reminder to vote-there were paper ballots available to vote on the 2018/2019 Executive Board and the 2018/2019 Budget. Carol Swenson thanked the membership for the supplies given for use at the Rockford Rescue Mission. Anne Brown announced that if members wanted to prepare a banner to be used by Habitat for Humanity to contact Sam Bergstrom. Website: Cindy Larsen requested that new members be sure to inform her of their e-mail addresses so they can be included in any guild e-mail blasts. Show and Tell: Several members displayed there handiwork. Evening winner: Marie Stenger.

July 5, 2018 JoAnn Wienrank was present to sell tickets for the Boone Country Council on Aging raffle quilt prior to the drawing on August 32, 2018. The quilt was appraised at $1,600. Program: Members enjoyed an ice cream social, patriotic pattern exchange, and a truck show with a red, white and blue theme. Treasurer’s Report: Checking Account and Money Market Account balances were presented to the guild membership.

Publications: Newsletter items are due by July 15th for the August/September newsletter. Programs: The August program will be the new officer’s trunk show, along with a sew-in for comfort quilt blocks, neo-natal quilts and UFO projects. Available at the August meeting will be stockings that can be completed. CVL Workshop: July workshop information will be on our website. Mini-Morning Workshops: Information will be posted on the Guild’s website for August. Programs: Amy Ottens thanked members for the support she was given during the past year. Marge Sment informed the membership of programs for the 2018-2019 year. She has programs schedules for September: Pam Kellogg, Crazy quilts and October: Carolyn Knox. Mark your calendars. The August meeting will be a Trunk Show presented by the 2018/2019 new officers. A sew-in will also be included in the August guild meeting for comfort quilt blocks, neo-natal quilts, stockings for soldiers, and UFOs. CVL Workshop (SPAM): Elizabeth Franck informed the membership that the next workshop will be July 21st at the Cherry Valley Library. The group will be working on circles, polygons, diamonds and quilting techniques. Special Projects: Judy Andres/ Norma Copes - 165 neo-natal quilts were made up-to-date this year. 13 quilts were delivered to UW Health( Sweds) this month. Batting was purchased at a special price of $145 for 30 yards. Comfort Quilts: A comfort quilt was sent to Janet Lotter upon the death of her husband. Mini-Morning Workshop: Information will be posted on the Guild’s website for August. Quilt Show: Margaret de Leon reported that the raffle quilt is at the long arm quilters, Cindy Gacksetter. Quilt Show Challenge: Karen Grover reported that colors are still available for the quilt show challenge. Members are encouraged to make a 6” x 42” quilt from the color the member is assigned. Membership: Barbie St. Aubin reported that $1.75 was collected from members without nametags. Drawing winners were: nametag - Starr Pittaway; birthday - Judy Andres; show and tell - Sandy Pyper. Julie Cuccinelli reported that 16 members were present which included two new members. Drawing winners were: nametag - Judy Mullen; birthday - Sherry De Behr. Old Business: Voting results: 2018/2019 Executive Board 63 - YES; 1 - NO; 1 - NO CHOICE.

2018/2019 Budget 61 - YES; 4 - NO. 60% of those present voted. Stockings for

Soldiers: Over 2,000 stockings were delivered to Operation Care Package, Manhattan, IL.

This organization fills and sends them to soldiers. The supply of stockings will last the

organization about 2 years. We still have stockings remaining in the storage unit and will find

another agency who can use them. Additionally, there are also supplies to make more

stockings in the Guild’s storage unit.

Show and Tell: Luanne Hanna completed 10 finished neo-natal quilts.

Have you signed up for the latest guild challenge opportunity? "It's All About the Color" will

hang at the guild quilt show in May 2019. The guidelines are simple:

1. Obtain an envelope from either Karen Grover or Robin Gausebeck. Inside you will find a small swatch of beautifully-colored fabric.

2. Create a quilt using this color as the MAIN color for you quilt. In other words, find fab-rics that are the same color (or tints or shades) as your swatch and make that color the star. You may use other colored fabrics but the overall impression should be of the color on your swatch.

3. The quilt should measure 6" wide by 42" long and can be made using ANY PATTERN, ANY TECHNIQUE, ANY DESIGN.

4. Please attach a 4" sleeve at the top of your quilt.

5. Attach your fabric swatch to the label on the back of your quilt. This will make it easier for the quilts to be hung in the proper order at the show.

6. Turn the quilts in to Karen or Robin at the December or January guild meetings.

You will have an opportunity to sign up at the July guild meeting, but if you want to get an earlier start, contact Robin or Karen and they can arrange to get your swatch to you.
