“In my early 20’s I spent many mornings camped out in line outside of Central Park’s Delacorte Theatre to claim free tickets to the Public Theatre’s Free Shakespeare in the Park. I rarely went just once - I returned again and again to each production, year after year. I soaked in the best-in-class directing, acting and creative, and buzzed with inspiration after each show. So much of my present love for theatre tracks back to that program. When Riverside Theatre announced a free classics program, my immediate response was YES YES YES! Thank you to Riverside Theatre and its supporters for making high-quality professional theatre an accessible summertime treat. Directing here has been a bucket list item and I pinch myself daily.

As for this production in particular, I dedicate this concept to the biggest country music star in my life, my dad. I spent many weekends during my childhood watching my dad’s country band deliver the mythology of 1960s - 1980s country music to small town legion halls and town fairs. Country music is all about storytelling: life, love loss - the highest highs and the lowest lows. Big drama. The music and culture has been a perfect compliment to Shakespeare’s breeziest comedy, in the hands of this brilliant and creative cast and team. I missed laughing this much every day. Enjoy! Yodel-Ay-HEE-HAW!” ~ Angie
