Dale Traber Wins Second Career
USBC Senior Masters TitleBy Lucas Wiseman - USBC Communications
James Simone, Tavie Caratozzolo
Blasted 300 at JIB Lanes
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dale Traber of
Cedarburg, Wis., went undefeated in
the double-elimination match-play
bracket to win his second career
United States Bowling Congress
Senior Masters title.
Traber, who also won the event in
2009, defeated USBC Hall of Famer
Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala,
Fla., 707-695 in the championship
match at Wayne Webb's Columbus
Bowl. He won a total of seven match-
es en route to the title.
"This is very unexpected and sur-
prising, but breaks have to go your
way at the right time to win a tourna-
ment like this," Traber said. "For me,
the stars all aligned at the right time."
Traber said the victory was espe-
cially sweet because of his lack of
success on the Professional Bowlers
Association Senior Tour this season.
"Trust me, I didn't expect to win given the way
I've been bowling," Traber said. "I did my hotel
reservation for this week night-by-night. I was
planning to go to the stock car races tonight in
Wisconsin, not be bowling."
Williams actually took a one-pin lead, 238-237,
after one game in the three games, total pins
match, but Traber roared back 267-201 to take a
65-pin lead into the final game. Williams mount-
ed a comeback, but came up short the final game,
256-203, failing to make up enough ground.
Williams finished as the runner-up for the sec-
ond consecutive year at the Senior Masters, one
of two majors on the PBA Senior Tour. He also
finished second at this year's other major - the
Senior U.S. Open.
"This is the third major in a row where I have
finished second," Williams said. "I bowled really
well this week, and I guess second isn't that bad.
It's better than finishing 41st or something."
Traber earned $14,000 for first place, while
Williams took home $7,000. Defending champion
Wayne Webb of Grove City, Ohio, finished third
after losing in the semifinals to Williams, 666-
600.
The USBC Senior Masters attracted a field of
249 of the top bowlers in the country age 50 and
higher and featured a total prize fund of more
than $110,000.

There are many ways to lose bowling friends
and teammates, or at least, annoy them greatly.
Here's a few:
Use a person's personal ball or stick your fin-
gers in it without asking permission first.
Spill your drink on their bowling shoes.
Shake hands with them after eating chocolate
or potato chips, or after you run your fingers
through your hair.
Always tell them how good the person whose
place on the team they took was.
Yell at them.
Give them the silent treatment.
Never go to a league meeting.
Go to every league meeting and question
everything that comes up.
Never read the rule book.
Memorize every rule and make sure everyone
knows that you know every word of the book.
Tell the proud owner of a new, very expensive
bowling ball that you could have got it for them
wholesale.
Always keep score.
Never keep score.
Don't bother to learn how to keep score.
Whenever you roll badly tell everyone how
good you used to bowl.
Use the bowling center as you market place to
sell raffle tickets, cookies, candy, and every-
thing else.
Rush to the line without ever taking a look to
see if anyone is ready to bowl on either side.
Don’t bowl unless there are six lanes on each
side open.
Be the last one to arrive and the first one to
leave, so much so that you don’t know how your
team stands before the night starts and you’re
gone before the night’s results are known.
Never be ready to roll when it is your turn to
bowl.
Tell everyone, every time, when it’s their turn
to bowl.
Make excuses for every shot.
Never have a reasonable excuse.
Cry about everything.
Never cry.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – With a
double in the 10th frame, 18-
year-old Zack Hattori of Las
Vegas clinched the richest schol-
arship prize in bowling history to
conclude the 14th annual Teen
Masters bowling championships
presented by Ebonite at Grand
Central Terminal Thursday.
Hattori defeated 16-year-old
Rachel Vaughn of Port St. Lucie,
Fla., 190-184 and 207-178, to
win the best-of-two-game cham-
pionship match and lock up a
four-year, $64,000 scholarship
package.
“This is life-changing for me,”
Hattori, a 2011 high school grad-
uate, said. “I’m excited and I’m
shocked. I was struggling think-
ing about college, but it’s all
coming together now. My whole
goal was to bowl in college.
Bowling has been my gateway to
get there, and now it’s more real
than ever.”
Hattori won the first game after
trailing by 26 pins in the fifth
frame. Hattori’s double and a
pair of missed 10 pin spare con-
versions proved costly to
Vaughn. He threw three strikes
in a row in the second game and
got help when Vaughn twice
failed to convert 3-10 “baby
splits.”
As runner-up, Vaughn won a

Junior Team USA Girls
Take Gold at PABCONLucas Wiseman - USBC SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic - After coming up empty in the three
previous events, the Junior Team USA girls broke through in dominat-
ing fashion Friday to win their first gold medal of the 2011 Pan
American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships.
The United States claimed the girls team gold medal with a six-game
total of 5,151, which topped second place Mexico by more than 300
pins, at Cibao Bowling Center.
Jessica Earnest led the way with 1,415 and was followed by Kaitlin
Quinn (1,312), Elise Bolton (1,252) and Danielle McEwan (1,172).
"For me as a college bowler, team is one of my favorite events to
bowl," said Earnest, who competes collegiately at Vanderbilt. "You get
to share something with three other people, and I think there's going to
be a bond between the four of us forever because it's the first interna-
tional gold medal for all of us. I think there's something special there and
it hasn't sunk in yet."
Powered by 903 in the final game, Mexico took the silver medal with
4,824, while Colombia earned the bronze with 4,767.
In the boys team event, Puerto Rico took advantage of a more than
300-pin lead it had on the United States entering the final round to win
the gold medal with 5,253. The Junior Team USA boys finished second
with 5,053, while Mexico took the bronze with 4,908.
Marshall Kent paced the U.S. team with 1,284 and was followed by
Andrew Koff (1,263), EJ Tackett (1,257) and Kyle King (1,249).

Tylor Greene and Melanie Hannon
Take High School Singles By Jason Overstreet
Las Vegas – Tylor Greene of Davidson, Mich., and Melanie Hannon of
Buffalo, N.Y., claimed the top spots at the 2011 North Pointe High School
Singles Championships and each took home a $15,000 scholarship.
Both players survived the drama-filled match play portion of the event
en route to victory at Red Rock Lanes. They came out on top against 588
other top high school bowlers from across the country.
Greene defeated Jamie Robinson of Westerville, Ohio, 247-196, in the
boys final to take home the title, while Hannon started off strong and
pulled away on the girls side, outlasting Haley Rubin of Brandon, S.D.,
212-181.
“I wanted this win badly after not making the cut here the last couple
of years,” Greene said. “A couple of guys along the way tried to get in
my head, but I just focused on my shots. I want to attend Webber
International University, and this scholarship will help toward that.”
Hannon kept her mind on her own game and enjoyed the competitive
atmosphere this week.
“I just tried to stay focused on myself and not worry about the other
bowlers,” said Hannon. “I never thought I would win. It was an amaz-
ing experience competing with such other great youth bowlers.”
