From the Pastor
We are examining 10 choices that could have an impact on your life or the life of someone you encounter. Here are the choices we
have examined already:
Choice #1: I Choose God’s Love
Choice #2: I Choose God’s Forgiveness
Choice #3: I Choose Jesus Christ as Lord
Choice #4: I Choose the Bible as God’s Word
My hope is that we each recognize the choice, consider our decision, and possibly challenge another person with the same choice. Ready?
Choice #5: I Choose to Forgive
Forgiveness is what God gives to free us and others from the weight of relational failure. Forgiveness disposes of the glowing green sludge of hurts,
betrayals, and disappointments. Forgiveness is God’s solution to our capacity to carry negatives from our past. The older we get, the more we realize
we must become skilled at forgiveness. If we want the kind of life that God promises us, we must find a good way to deal with the wounds that happen
to us and the weights that life heaps on us. We need to become the experts at forgiveness in our families, churches, and jobs. Forgiveness is a decision
to release a person from the obligation which resulted when they injured you.
Too many times, we withhold forgiveness because we believe the hurt is too big, or time will heal. Other times, we demand to hear an apology first.
Someone who repeatedly hurts you can be difficult to forgive due to a lack of trust. In each occasion we must remember Luke 17:3, “Be on your
guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.” It is difficult to remember a very big fact, forgiveness has no limits.
Ultimately, we are to forgive because we are already forgiven, freely. Will you choose to forgive?
It was wonderful to see Hayden Barnes baptized this past Sunday! This Sunday will be an awesome time for our church. Pancake Sunday means the
beginning of a new school year. We will also have an opportunity to meet Jedediah Denman and his family. We will vote on calling him as our new
Minister to Children and Young Adults. Make sure you are here as we begin a 5-week series, “I Love Sundays.”
Excited to be your pastor,
Bro. Tommy
