The Home Maker - by Dorothy Stewart, PM

Whisk together:

bites of dark chocolate chips. Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Line one or two baking sheets.

1/2 cup buckwheat flour1/2 cup sorghum Flour

1/2 cup tapioca starch or potato starch (not potato flour!)

2 teaspoons xanthan gum

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/3 cup light brown sugar

Add in:½ cup light olive oil1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup organic cocoa

½ cup vanilla rice milk or almond milk

As you beat the dough pay close attention to the consistency. Add more rice milk a tablespoon at a time, and beat to combine, until you achieve a smooth but sturdy cookie dough. I added two more tablespoons of rice milk to my dough.

1/2 cup brown rice flour

1 cup organic cane sugar

Add in:½ cup vegan chocolate chips

Stir in the chocolate chips as best you can (the dough is stiff). Roll a golf ball sized wad of dough between your palms, and place the ball on the lined baking sheet about two inches apart. Repeat this process to make 18 balls. Use your palm to press down on the dough and flatten slightly- not too much- unless you like your cookies thin. Press a few extra chocolate chips into the tops of the cookies, if you like.Bake in the center of a preheated oven for about 15 minutes until the cookies are set. They will still be slightly soft in the center. If you bake two pans at once, rotate the pans half way through baking. Remove the pans from the oven, and allow the cookies to cool and "set" for a few minutes; then use a thin spatula to move the cookies to a wire rack. The cookies will get crisper as they cool. Yield: 24 cookies

1 teaspoon sea salt

about my health following my surgery on July 12th. The phone calls, visits, cards & flowers meant so much to me. It is so nice to know that your thoughts & prayers were with

me during that time. I am feeling good and I know that much of it is due to those prayers being sent to a higher authority.

EDITORIAL 1962 -LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

The Order of the Eastern Star in New Brunswick is by no means large as to the number of Chapters or membership when we compare this jurisdiction with many others in various parts of the world, in 1981 we had a membership of 4,385 with a gain of only 65 over the previous year. Nevertheless, we are gaining ground both in the number of Chapters and membership. Since the election of Sister Lottie Kyle in 1930 to the present day, there has been an impres-sive list of Past Grand Matrons as well as Past Grand Patrons. A few have gone to Higher Service_nor will we forget the proportional number of our membership who have gone to their reward and the services they have rendered to their respective Chapters.Membership is commensurate with economic and industrial growth of any area, for when there is an increase of population and prosperity there will be an upsurge reflected in the growth of the Order. We may expect this, and in the next thirty years may double our present membership. It is becoming apparent that many people affiliated with the Masonic Order are becoming aware of the prestige and good that the Order has brought. These are rays of hope that we must look forward to with fortitude & determination. Editor: Thirty years later in 1992 we reported a reduced membership of only 3538 strong.

Editor: We congratulate Sister Margaret on the 50th Anniversary of her installation as Wor. Grand Matron.

ELECTA CHAPTER NO. 9, PERTH-ANDOVER, N.B

There was a very uneasy feeling about the St. John River and during the night many people evacuated from their homes and the hospital Thursday morning April 2nd at 9 a.m. CPR railroad bridge went, ice, water on both sides of river; millions of dollars damage; many homes completely destroyed_no lives lost. The Installation of Officers didn't take place until May 2nd due to the condition of the Masonic Lodge building. There was water mixed with oil, to the ceiling of the basement. It will cost considerable money an a lot of labour to repair again. Editor’s Note: The Chapter was flooded again in March 2012.

THE TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR

You can hunt until you're dizzy & somehow it still gets by -

The Editor stares with horror, then tears his hair & groans,

The typographical Error is a slippery thing and sly.

Let us dedicate this year to making our Chapter rooms a Sanctuary of Peace and Harmony. This can only be done if we would refrain from any unkindness in word or deed.”
