Shire Snippets
Hi Everyone,
For the second year in a row the North Midlands district celebrated a
NAIDOC event in Morawa. This year the event was bigger in numbers
with schools from around the district joining the celebrations in
recognition of this years theme: Voice. Treaty. Truth. Working together
for a shared future.
I would like to use this opportunity to acknowledge the organising committee for their hard work and commitment to the delivery of another outstanding event.
At the July Council meeting the 2019-2020 budget was adopted. This budget has a strong emphasis on road maintenance with an extra $200k being included; it is also further supported by the inclusion of a new Grader Operator which the Shire is currently recruiting for. Please visit our website to see the full 2019-2020 budget.
You will find two positions to join the works and assets team advertised
in the Scene, on town notice boards and on social media. Application
packages are available on the Shire website or can be picked up from
the admin office.
Regards Chris

As a member of the NAIDOC Working Group the Shire
assisted with the Midwest NAIDOC 2019 event. This year’s NAIDOC theme was:
Voice. Treaty. Truth. Working together for a shared future.
This theme tied in beauti-fully with the inclusion and active participation of schools from across our Midwest region. Yalgoo, Morawa, Perenjori, Three Springs, Carnamah and Coorow were represented with approximately 430 students involved. Total event numbers came close to 800 including support staff, visiting
guests, agencies, organisations, stall holders and community members.
Highlights of the day were the NAIDOC march, Flag Raising Ceremony, Smoking Ceremony, art displays, artefact displays and talks as well as numerous engaging activities to explore. This year we were also very lucky to have the Red Ochre Band playing creating a real event atmosphere.
An event such as this would not be possible without all the helpers, supporters and sponsors – so a big thank you to each and every one of you. Finally a big thanks to those who came along and helped celebrate this year’s event. It was a wonderful to see people learning about culture and having fun participat-ing in various activities and stalls.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Midwest NAIDOC 2020 event.
