Thank you to everyone that helped with the Charge Picnic on July

25th at Lake View Park in Rib Lake. It was a day of beautiful

weather, great fellowship, delicious food, and a meaningful service.

Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:23 What does it mean to take up one's cross daily? Sufferers of chronic pain may understand this better than most others. My mother suffers from chronic pain. She has suffered from back pain for many years. She was told many years ago that she would eventually end up in a wheelchair. Today, at the age of 83, she has avoided that wheelchair. However, she still suffers from the pain. That, combined with other health problems that she suffers, makes for a painful existence. That daily pain that she and others suffer could be considered a daily cross to be endured. For many people, their daily crosses are things other than chronic pain. For some, it is the pain of addiction. The alcoholic has to work towards sobriety. Those addicted to drugs have to work toward staying clean. These become daily crosses to be handled. For some, the daily cross may be unemployment and poverty. For some, the daily cross may be anger and impatience. As I type this, I look at the cross hanging on my office wall. It is made of a nice, smooth wood. It looks nice. The crosses we carry do not look as nice. The cross Jesus carried probably wasn't perfect. It might have been weathered, with splits and edges that weren't perfectly straight. It was probably pretty heavy. That cross meant death for Jesus. Of course, the empty cross means life for us. It means that Jesus was able to conquer death that we might live. Still, the cross that Jesus carried reminds us that the crosses we carry can be cumbersome and difficult. Just as Jesus carried His cross with God's help, so, too, can we as we depend on God's help in our lives.

God’s Blessings,

Pastor John

The past few months we have been blessed with a wide variety of

donations to the food pantry. The Confirmation Students helped sort

through and set aside what we wanted to keep and what would be given

to another food pantry in need. The Jump River Food Pantry came and

filled their truck. They are very grateful for the help. A very special

thank you to Pastor. John, Confirmation Students, and Dorathy for all

the help. We really appreciate it.

After Jump River came we received another donation for the food

pantry. Then we contacted and served 3 families in need. I am glad we

can provide this service.

you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40

LIFE GROUPS LEARNING TOGETHER 7

L - Live

A morning (9 a.m.) and evening (5:30 p.m.) group will be offered. The 6-week study

will include 5 weeks of study and discussion (morning and evening groups). The last

week we will combine the groups and watch the movie in the evening.

“Trauma and loss are unfortunately universal, and finding answers to the question of pain and suffering challenges everyone… The goal of the study…is to usher readers into the loving presence of the triune God, where together with Him, they will confront their deepest pain

and experience a real, lasting healing.”

Topics for study include: The Secret Places of Your Heart, Honest Conversations with God,

God in Relationship, the Garden of Creation in Your Heart and Planting a Tree of Life and

Choosing to Live What Matters.

Life Groups are a great way to learn, study and have fellowship with other believers.

We talk about God, Faith and Life. We are learning together.

To sign up for the study please contact

Cheryl Ketelhut or Jean Nuernberger. Taken from The Shack Study Guide description on the Amazon Website The Shack Study Guide by Wm. Paul Young and Brad Robison

SALT BOARD NEWS FROM THE LEADERS OF MEDFORD UMC 8

Greetings from the Simplified Accountable Leadership Team. What a joyous noise has been

coming from the church on Sunday mornings! It is so good to have music back and singing too.

The piano/organ music and song leadership is such a joy. I am sure the Lord is smiling when he

hears us. A HUGE thank you to Nancy and Dennis for playing and leading the music in worship.

Fellowship following worship has gone well. Supporting and visiting with our church family is

wonderful... and the coffee is not bad either! It feels like things are returning to some sense of

normal. Communion Sunday will be coming and the worship team has decided to be good

stewards of the church money by using the remaining disposable cups with the wafers. In 2-3

months we will be back to typical communion procedures. As you have seen, two pews in the

sanctuary have been removed and one is now in the Fellowship Hall. This has made room for a

technology station near the piano and organ. It will house a desktop computer wired to the sound

system and TV screens. This will allow more stability in the equipment as it will not need to be

set up each week. All the programs can remain the same, making it easier for those running the

slides during worship. The new equipment will also allow us to begin live streaming service so

those at home can experience worship with us. As we have heard of concerns with the

microphones we are looking at purchasing new head sets, lapel and hand held microphones. We

thank Crystal and Shane for their work to make the technology changes happen. One other

thing... get ready for the kids in church to have SonShine Kids again starting in September. We

are in need of teachers so please contact Cheryl at 608-485-2459 to sign up. You will not have to

prepare lessons – all will be set up for you! What a deal!!!
