We have been blessed to have the Episcopal leadership of Bishop Lawson Bryan since September 2016. Additionally, in the midst of the Corona Virus he consented to stay an additional year to provide us with stable and continued leadership. We are very grateful for his service to our Annual Conference.

He will be retiring September 1, 2021. A reception for Bishop and Mrs. Sherrill Bryan is scheduled for Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Vineville UMC in Macon, GA from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. This will be a come and go reception. Please be in prayer for Bishop and Mrs. Bryan as they enter into retirement and spend more time with their family.

Vineville has a full time opening for a Financial Secretary. This is a good position with insured, pension and paid vacation. Please contact Dr. Jimmy Asbell at [email protected] if you are or know someone who is interested. Liberty United Methodist Church in South Bibb County near Macon, Georgia is seeking a part-time choir director for our traditional worship service. The choir director position includes working with the pastor on planning music for traditional and other seasonal worship services, directing our volunteer Chancel Choir, developing and directing a hand bell choir, and developing a children's music ministry to include instrumental and/or choral music. Will need at least a bachelor's degree in music. Send resumes and letters of interest to [email protected]

Rev. Johnson Honored for Chaplaincy Ministry

Rev. David C. Johnson, a retired elder in the South Georgia Conference, was awarded the Anton Boisen Professional Service Award by the Association of Professional Chaplains at their annual conference, held June 12. The Anton Boisen Professional Service Award honors one of the early pioneers in clinical chaplaincy and chaplaincy care education and is given each year to a board certified chaplain of the APC who demonstrates a commitment to

excellence in professional chaplaincy and has offered a unique contribution to contemporary chaplaincy care.

Apply Today for Renfro Trust Grant Connectional Ministries is accepting applications for the Southeastern Jurisdiction Renfro Trust Grant. This grant is a brick and mortar grant specifically for small, rural churches. Guidelines, requirements and applications can be found here. Completed applications must be submitted to Outreach Chair Susan Hughes at [email protected]. The deadline for completed applications to be submitted is Sunday, August 22, 2021.

Grants Available from Discipleship Ministries Churches wishing to strengthen outreach to racial minorities can apply for up to $10,000 from United Methodist Discipleship Ministries. Andrew Hendren Elected Wespath’s next CEO and General Secretary

Wespath has announced the election of Andy Hendren as its next CEO and General Secretary, starting January 3, 2022. Hendren is widely respected and has a sincere passion for the mission of Wespath. Hendren currently serves as Wespath’s chief legal and governance officer. He will succeed Barbara Boigegrain, who will retire after serving in the role for more than 27 years. Read more

General Conference: What We Know Now

Meeting on February 20, the Commission on the General Conference made a decision to further postpone the 2020 General Conference until August 29 – September 6, 2022 in Minneapolis, Minn. as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the safety of mass gatherings and travel.
