Catechesis on the Eucharist

The Council of Trent summarizes the Catholic faith by declaring: "Because Christ our Redeemer said that it was truly His body that He was offering under the species of bread, it has always been the conviction of the Church of God, and this holy Council now declares again, that by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the Body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of His blood. This change the Holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation."

The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration and endures as long as the Eucharistic species subsist. Christ is present whole and entire in each of the species and whole and entire in each of their parts, in such a way that the breaking of the bread does not divide Christ. – Catechism of the Catholic Church 1376-1377

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?

Bishop Soto invites every Catholic in the Diocese of Sacramento to write or call their state representatives during the week of August 23-27, to oppose SB 245. This bill expands abortion by removing deductibles, co-payments, and other cost-sharing. Information about this bill and useful resources are available at https://scd.org/sb245.

Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place to renew, rebuild and redeem hearts broken by abortion. Weekend

retreats offer a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment where women and men can express, release and reconcile painful abortion

emotions and begin the process of restoration, renewal and healing. For information call

916.733.0161 or email [email protected]. All messages are confidential.
