Letter to the EditorMy brother, Billy Bolken, passed away last month from
Alzheimers disease.I am challenging all clients that Billy did work for to make a
tax-free donation to the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimers-Fargo, ND on behalf of Darin Bolken at http://act.alz.org/goto/BillyBolken. Billy spent 8 years as the mayor of Watford City and served on the McKenzie County Fair Board. Most of this service went unnoticed to the public because he would work into the night.
Every year this walk is made by his son, Darin, his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Carter and Hailey, Fargo. They did everything for Billy. It has been a hard year for them.
The walk is scheduled for Sept. 10.Be aware this could be you or someone you love or care
Sincerely,Linda Bolken Wells & his brothers, Bob, Kurt & Lowell

chapters are developed solely by local volunteers in communities who are concerned about the future of mule deer.
The Foundation has funded critical wildlife and habitatconservation projects as well as access for hunters for the last 10 years in Montana. Examples include management-relat-ed research, habitat acquisitions, conservation easements, habitat improvement projects and youth education programs (M.U.L.E.Y.) In 2015, MDF chapters in Montana allocated fundsto six major habitat projects. Additionally the chapters assisted in funding of three land acquisitions with the USFS and MT FWP. In 2016, the chapters in Montana have allocated funds to seven habitat projects, two studies and two land acquisitions with both agencies. This past summer the Prairie Ghost Chapter has led the fencing project on the CMR with the pulling of over 10 milesof dilapidated fencing and unneeded fences, this volunteer labor has saved the USFWS nearly $50,000 in costs! The Mule DeerFoundation would also like to recognize XTO Energy for granting funds to purchase a wire puller that has made this possible. We are looking forward to doing even more in 2017 and you can help by attending the banquet for some fun and raising fundsfor mule deer habitat and hunter access.
Chapter Chair, Blaine Rogers, announced that the social hour would begin at 5 pm., where attendees can participate in a

Everything Roundup on the web.
By Meagan DotsonDuring their meeting
on Monday, Sept. 22nd the Sidney Lions Club unveiled their PlusOptix mobile vision screener, which is the latest and greatest technology in Lions International develop-ment.
PlusOptix is made to de-tect a number of vision prob-lems, and takes a lot of sub-jectivity out of traditional vision screening done in schools. The test simply requires a spe-cialized camera to be focused on the pupils, and gives a pass or refer reading.
The initial interest in the machine came when Sidney Lions member and Zone Chair Raymond Carlson visited his
home town of Havre, MT and attended a Havre Lions Club meeting. The club had been using a PlusOptix machine and Carlson thought it would be a valuable way to help the community. The Sidney Lions borrowed an older model from Bozeman, MT, and in coopera-tion with the Richland County Health Department, provided vision screenings at Fairview and Lambert schools.
“We estimated that, in just the time it took us to perform the screenings, we were able to screen about 100 kids in an hour,” said Carlson of the Fairview vision screening.
The Sidney Lions Club received a $5,000 grant from the Foundation for Community
Care, and the club funded the rest of the money needed for the $6,500 machine.
Together with the Rich-land County Health Depart-ment, they will be bringing Plu-sOptix to all Richland County Schools this fall. The pass or refer reading will be given to the Health Department, who will be in contact with parents and guardians about making eye appointments for their children.
“Our goal is to help chil-dren; often times vision prob-lems go undetected until kids are struggling in school,” Carl-son said of the organization which was challenged in 1925
However, PlusOptix will be serving more than just the children of the community. In 2015, the Sidney Lions Club attended the Eastern Mon-
and performed screenings for Veterans and their families and the organization plans on tak-ing advantage of other oppor-
tunities to utilize PlusOptix for
The Sidney Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Mon-day of each month at the Elks Club, 123 3rd St. SW, at noon. Anyone interested in becom-ing a member can stop in to one of their meetings, or con-tact Carlson at 406-489-0944.
The Sidney Lions Club’s PlusOptix will be Used for Vision Screenings in Richland Co. Schools

10A ROUNDUP, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2016
By Samanth GoldsmithOn August 4,2016. I had
the opportunity to speak with Allison Picard. Allison has held fundraisers to be able to bring Sidney and Williston a product called the CuddleCot. Cud-dleCot is made by the trading name Flexmort of Roftek Ltd. which is based out of Birming-
ham, UK. The CuddleCot is a cooling pad that keeps the body of the deceased cool lon-ger so that the families of the deceased may have a longer period of time with their loved one before the morgue takes the body.
Allison and her husband Jassen Picard suffered the
loss of their daughter Lilia Faith Picard on August 19, 2014 before this product was available in the area and also knew of a few other couples who had lost children to vari-ous forms of fetal demise and ultimately decided to bring this product here. She came in contact with Erica McCauley
who is also part of the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation, which introduces remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of profes-sional portraits. Erica raised the funds to get a CuddleCot in Minot, ND and gave what was left over to Allison who believe swhole heartedly it would bring some semblance of closure to the bereaving families.
Flexmort is the manufac-turer of the CuddleCot which has been internationally rec-ognized across the world as
who suffer the loss of a baby. Dealing with the death of a baby is clearly an incredibly
bereaved parents should be given the option of spending time with their baby. Pro-viding families time through the use of the CuddleCot is internationally encouraged by midwives, bereavement practitioners, still birth/neona-tal charities, and academics. Time allows the family to form an important bond with their baby; whether changing a nappy, dressing the baby, tak-ing photographs or simply just staying close, this unquestion-ably helps families in dealing with their loss.
The problem is that in a -
dition can deteriorate quickly, therefore cooling the baby is absolutely essential. Trans-
ferring to and from the morgue is now widely regarded as an outdated practice as it is trau-matic for parents to repeatedly go through the separation pro-cess whereas the CuddleCot allows the family to spend every moment with their baby, precious moments where ev-ery minute counts.
Any sort of loss of a loved
with the help of this product it will help with the familes who suffer from their baby being a stillborn, lose a child to one of the many forms of fetal de-mise, it can even bring some sort of comfort to families who would simply like a little more time with their loved one.
Allison asks that any do-nations be sent to the Ramsey Keller Foundation. Their info can be found at kisses2heav-en.com

Jake TeSelle, right, recently graduated from Montana State University with adegree in mechanical engineering. TeSelle and his childhood friend Colten

Sales are part of a new gen-eration of Montana farmers. The two grew up together in Bozeman, and both came from multi-generational farming families that grew traditional crops like wheat, alfalfa and barley. Now, with help from
Blackstone LaunchPad and a $38,377 grant from the Montana Department of Ag-
launched a specialty operation growing hops for local micro-breweries.
They call their venture Crooked Yard Hops.
-chased a mobile harvester, which they say is the first
mobile harvester for their own crop and will also make it avail-able for other nearby growers.
Crooked Yard began as a one-acre test plot in a back
south of Bozeman. It was spring 2015, and TeSelle was a junior mechanical engineer-ing student in the MSU College of Engineering. Sales had just returned home from a tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
That fall they harvested 20 pounds of hops and got a positive response on the sam-ples they gave to local brew-eries. TeSelle and Sales said they were on to something, but
-stone LaunchPad sent them in the right direction.
LaunchPad Director Les Craig said he saw potential.
“They were ambitious, driven, smart, and they were
clearly pursuing their pas--

Craig said. Basically, TeSelle says, “He poured jet fuel on our business.”
As of late July 2016, the hop vines at Crooked Yard
from the grant, TeSelle and Sales planted six acres. They expect to harvest 200-300 pounds this year, and next year around 4,000. Bridger Brewing has already spoken
TeSelle and Sales also plan to purchase processing equip-ment, allowing them to bring hops straight from farm to beer.

Instead of using a heavy cable and maximizing the cable width like many farm-ers, which adds to an already
top-heavy system, CrookedYard chose to use a smallerhigh-weave cable with a tensile loading strength of 5,000pounds, which is still morethan twice what TeSelle said
