Principal’s Weekly Letter In 2015 Pope Francis declared September 1 to be a worldwide day of prayer for the care of creation. In his encyclical, Laudato Si’ (Praised Be) Pope Francis compares the earth, our common home to a “sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens to embrace us.” The Season of Creation concludes on October 4, which is the Feast of Saint Francis, who is the patron saint of animals and the environment.
A Prayer for Our Earth
All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.Pour out upon us the power of your love,

that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may liveas brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so
precious in your eyes.Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the
heartsof those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creatureas we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day.Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice, love and peace. (Pope Francis)
As a community of faith, we pray for the repose of the soul of Cazzie Brown and Jennifer Johnston’s mother/ Hadleigh Johnston’s grandmother. May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. We also pray for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. From the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s Information Bulletin, donations to disaster relief efforts may be made through Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the Unites States Catholic Church. For information, visit, www.catholiccharitiesusa.org.
