St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:
Stewardship Thoughts “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”
-LUKE 12:34- Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? To invest more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world. . Children’s good deed: “I helped pick sweet corn, I took my dog for a walk, I babysat for my little sister.”

Tend thy sick ones, O Lord Jesus. Rest thy weary ones. Bless thy dying ones. Soothe thy suffering ones. Pity thy afflicted ones. Shield thy joyous ones. And all for thy love’s sake. (St. Augustine)
May we pray for our beloved deceased. May they rest in peace and may God comfort those who mourn.

MAY THE ANGEL OF PEACE WATCH OVER US- May God the Father, who made us, bless us. May God the Son send his healing among us. May God the Holy Spirit move within us and give us eyes to see with, ears to hear with, and hands that your work might be done. May we walk and preach the word of God to all. May the angel of peace watch over us and lead us at last by God’s grace to the kingdom. Amen. (St. Dominic)

Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.
(Psalm 33)
From Fr. Kevin… This Sunday’s mass readings emphasize faith.
This includes the faith of Abraham, other
patriarchs, and true servant disciples. In Hebrew,
“to believe” is expressed by two words: “Aman”
which suggests firmness (“Gird your loins”), and
“batah” which puts greater emphasis on trust and
enlightenment (“light your lamps”). Our English
word, Amen” comes from this word,
“Aman”**(from “Dictionary of Mary”). Consider
how many times we say the word, amen, at mass.
Faith is total trust in someone, and to believe is to
adhere to them and to their words. We are called
to be “glued” to God, totally attached to Him, to
be His devoted followers. The root meaning of
the word, “adhere”, means “to stick”. Stick with
God! We are asked to direct our whole being to
God, yielding ourselves constantly to be formed
by Him, and to live completely in service to Him.
As our gospel and second reading show, a person
of faith is attentive to God’s voice, vigilant,
prepared, faithful, prudent, obedient, a servant
who loves God more than anyone or anything
else in one’s life. To a person of faith, God is
one’s true “homeland security”. I
FAITH FACT Celebrating the Saints of August
August 12th is the feast day of St. Jane Frances de Chantal. She brought to her financially challenged marriage a deep faith and a kind spirit of organization & supervision which not only brought the finances under control but endeared her to the employees. She founded the Visitation order for women who were rejected by other orders because of age or poor health. We remember St. Stephen of Hungary on his feast day on August 16th. Stephan was anointed king of Hungary in 1000, receiving his cross and crown from Pope Sylvester II and devoted most of his reign to the promotion of the Christian faith. St. Bernard was born in Burgundy, France to noble and pious parents. They sent him at an early age to a college at Chatillon, where he was known for his remarkable piety and spirit of recollection. He was endowed with the gift of miracles. His feast day is August 20th. (For more on these and other saints, visit catholic.org.)
The Lighter Side
A little girl was diligently pounding away at her grandfather’s old typewriter. She told him she was writing a story. “What’s the story about?” he asked. “I don’t know.” She replied. “I can’t read.”
