An award of honor and incredible
acknowledgement was presented to The Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies earlier in the year from Dicom Trans-portation Group (for John Deere, GOJIT and numerous other custom-ers). This is recognition of being the “Carrier of the Year” throughout the complete North American service area, was received with pride, and with credit to the Team that makes the service happen each day to Al-berta service points.
Consistently providing better than
99% on time status, monitoring ser-vice daily, and all-inclusive customer service wherever needs may arise-has proven the Hi-Way Group of Companies truly cares for all cus-tomer needs.
Providing daily service to over 70
wide-spread Alberta John Deere lo-cations is a challenge not easily met,
but honorably kept. “Continuous improvement strategies, in conjunction with the constant in-troduction of innovative solutions to the marketplace, have afforded us levels of Quality never seen through traditional partners”-says Rick Barnes- Executive Vice President, Dicom Transportation Group.
Even with this award, Team 9 has
not lessened their awareness or strive to greatness for their custom-ers. The daily monitoring, continual eye for improvement, and above all else-keeping the customers’ needs first in decision making, will ensure the exceptional level of service their customer have come to expect is continuous and unfailing.
To the Team and leaders of Hi-way
9 Group of Companies-congratulations! Recognition for an exceptional job!

With laughter and food, friends and family, Team 9 hosted their annual “Fun Day” in June at Orkney Campground. The unpredictable Alberta weather and ominous grey sky didn’t keep over 100 attending and having a great time! Prizes were drawn, games played, a petting zoo enjoyed, face-painting complet-ed, and fabulous BBQ savored with great company –the perfect combination to enjoy Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies-without the work! Thanks to those who took time from busy personal schedules to join the Team on a Saturday. We know it was worth the drive and anticipate the next time the Hi-Way 9 Group can spend time together.
In Memory and BMC Team 9 is Family!

LARRY WATTENBARGER
(November 29, 1944-April 16, 2016)
It's hard to put so much into words to even think it might cover
how valuable an asset Larry was. He was the essence of what
Team 9 really is and I was lucky enough to witness it first hand.
There was no task, job or project Larry couldn’t or wouldn’t tack-
le...even if he lacked in some area. He used the power of his team
mates to help accomplish his vision. For 15 years he has worked
quietly behind the scenes plugging along, while smiling and
laughing. In days past, I have realized that while I thought I was
“saving him “ from over-working himself and making sure he didn’t over do it...he was quietly planting the seeds
in me and the rest of the Drumheller team. He truly was to be a noble man, and for that I am truly indebted to
him. My only wish is that after 15 years here myself I will be able to look back and say I did Larry proud.
….Tyler Bolin, Team 9 Maintenance, Drumheller.

GLEN HUNTLEY

photos and stories he shared with his Team.
Glen was respected by his customers in Olds, and his Team in Red
Deer. He will be missed by all.

Drumheller’s Mini

Shelley Blanchette, “drove”
her company’s wagon with
determination and bravery.
Thanks, Shelley, for your par-
ticipation and representation.
Westlock Parade Run annually, this year celebrating their 100 year anniversary! Community
is important to Team 9, so Randy Woelk (seen in picture), Shane Tyson,
and Kenzie Tyson were happy to participate. A great day, Team 9-thank
you for sharing.
Alberta Pride is not just a “catch phrase” for The Hi-Way 9 Group of
Companies. With the wildfires in and around Fort McMur-
ray, which affected all Albertans, Team 9 spent many hours
and resources providing support and help for the efforts of
the community and workers on location.
Trucks were loaded and transferred, manpower was donat-
ed and provided, freight moved at no cost, not including the
many personal donations given from the employees.
This effort was not done for public recognition or taken as
an opportunity to highlight what is done for free-but truly
represents what Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies really is:
“The Carriers that Care”.
Earth Day is recognized annually throughout Alberta by
Team 9! Taking care of our part of the envi-
ronment, we ensure our grounds and the areas
around us are garbage free.
Picking up litter that has been around
throughout the winter may be a daunting, and
at times, disgusting job, but Team 9 knows
the far-reaching effects of their efforts are
worth the time-and
extra hand-
washing.
Thanks for caring
Team 9-from future
generations.

Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies provides
many services for their customers-the
vast majority with the number one “tool”
-a truck. That unit is the first thing cus-
tomers see prior to receiving their prod-
ucts, and the last thing that represents
Team 9 as the service is completed.
Hence-the importance of truck pride!
A company who cares about the small
details-like a clean truck on the outside,
gives the customers reassurance that the
freight inside that unit is in even better
shape and protection.
Congratulations, Gary Boyd of Team 9-
Deck-Way division. One can see the
pride in your unit, your job, and the com-
pany you represent. You will receive a
jacket in recognition of your effort.
Thank-you!

appreciate? Doesn’t matter-we do
both!

SAFETY
The Carriers That Care!
Back-to-school season isn’t just for the children. When the school year begins, there are more cars on the road, more pedestrians and bicyclists to watch for, and a higher risk for accidents. That means it’s time to take extra caution on your routes.
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), 327 school-age children died in school-transportation-related crashes between 2004-2013. Of those deaths, 201 were in vehicle accidents, 116 were pedestrians, and nine were cyclists.
Follow these eight tips to keep children (and yourself) safe during the school year:
1. Watch the clock (and the calendar)-According to NHTSA, school travel most often happens from September 1 through June 15. Peak school travel hours are between 6-9a.m. and again from 2-5p.m.
2. Look for those flashing lights & stop signs. Alberta has laws requiring drivers to stop for a stopped school bus. The bus-es have lights and a stop sign-you must stop. You must remain stopped until the lights are off, the stop sign is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving again. Some buses are now outfitted with cameras that capture drivers who pass illegally.
3. Keep your distance. Studies show children are in most danger of being hit by a vehicle within 10 feet of the school bus. Be sure to stop far enough away to allow children to walk to and from the bus.
4. Obey crossing guards. When a stop sign is displayed, motorists are required to stop. If you see a crossing guard holding a stop sign in a crosswalk, be sure to stop well before the crosswalk to give kids the appropriate room to cross the street safely.
5. Know your school zones. Zones are marked with signs, have a speed limit of 30 km/h, and are active at various times of the day depending each city’s bylaws. Even if the school zone appears clear, obey the traffic laws in the zone for every-one’s safety.
6. Know the neighborhood. Even if you’re not in a school zone, you might encounter children walking or bicycling to school on roads you travel often. Slow down and watch for children at all times.
7. Plan ahead. Know the school zones on your route and what time you may encounter them. That way you’ll be pre-pared for any slowdowns. Also, look for alternate routes that don’t include school zones.
8. Expect the unexpected. Children do not easily estimate the speed of an oncoming vehicle, nor do they always cross safely at a crosswalk. Being alert can save a life.
One last reminder-EVERY COMMUNITY IN ALBERTA SETS THEIR OWN SCHOOL ZONE TIMES!
Do not “assume”. Watch for signs, and keep our children safe.

Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies is a SmartWay Transport Partner! Recognized within strict guidelines, SmartWay partners are invested in reducing fuel costs, improving effi-ciency, and encouraging best practices in their freight sup-ply chains.
The responsibility to maintain this recognition falls solely on the shoulders of Team 9. Benchmarking their operations, tracking fuel consumption and improving annual perfor-mance is mandatory-and yet beneficial not only for the cur-rent system but also the generations to come.
Recognizing the importance of taking care of our environ-ment through the SmartWay Partnership is yet one more way that shows Hi-Way 9 Group of Companies truly are “The Carriers that Care”.
Every energy consumer needs to be aware of the environ-ment, their responsibility, and ways to be efficient.
Energy-efficient products: *save energy *lower utility bills
*reduce impacts on the environment
Many Canadians are already familiar with the two brands that Natural Resources Canada uses to make it easier to buy energy-efficient products:
The ENERGY STAR symbol indicates that a prod-uct meets or exceeds high efficiency standards. Currently, more than 70 product categories can qualify for the symbol and, typically, a certified model is in the top 15 to 30 percent of its class for energy performance.
The ENERGUIDE label compares a products ener-gy performance to others in its class. The label is mandatory on certain products as a part of Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations. On other products, its presence is voluntary.
Do your part at home, Team 9.
DO YOUR PART, TEAM 9!
