About the Artists

Brenda McMorrow is known for her unique and warmly embracing style of mantra music, in which she blends elements of acoustic folk, world rhythms and ancient Indian chants with a sweetly intro-spective singer-songwriter’s sensibility.

Yoga Journal describes Brenda as having “a knack for express-ing the deepest realizations in the sparsest lyrics”. As spiritual teacher Ram Dass has said: “Brenda has a gift”, and her music has been touching people’s hearts worldwide. With four celebrated devotional chant albums, Brenda is a featured artist on the White Swan Records roster, a Colorado label well known for it’s high-profile yoga-inspired artists like Deva Premal. Brenda has been invited to Festivals and events across North and South America, Europe and Asia as part of her most recent tour schedule.

Lana Sugarman began her study of Sanskrit and sound in 2004. Inspired by Marla Meenakshi Joy of Swaha, her first kirtan with Bhagavan Das, years of practice at Jivamukti Toronto, and the many traveling artists who shared their music, she began to write and lead kirtans throughout Toronto. While studying musical

theatre at Sheridan College, Lana would come into Toronto on the weekends and find herself chanting at kirtans instead of hitting the clubs. It became a sanctuary of sorts - a merging of her love for music and yoga. You can find her chanting throughout Canada and lending her voice and harmonium playing to fellow kirtanwallahs - Brenda McMorrow, Girish, Dave Stringer, David Newman, Narada Wise, Suzanne Sterling, and most of the Canadians leading chant. Her first album, Invocation, was released in 2013, and her second album will be available in 2017.

Swaha performs music that is both inspired and uplifting. It is an entic-ing blend of ethereal Sanskrit vo-cals soaring over rich earthy rhythms. The songs are composed by Meenakshi and Ron Reid, co-owners of Down-ward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto. Swaha invites the soul to sing, and Meenakshi and Ron and the grooves of the band are

contagious! Currently travelling internationally sharing their love of music and the art of yoga, Meenakshi and Ron enjoy the opportunity to dive into the depths of a complete practice with people, filled with Bhakti, laughter, the beauty of the physicality of the yoga practice as well as the deep philosophical basis for its existence.

Narada Wise also answers to Craig, a name given to him by his his mother after a hero in a romance novel. He is a yoga practitioner and educator, professional percussionist, devotional singer songwriter, and music producer. A professor of engineering, Narada travels extensively sharing his love

for sacred music by supporting bhakti yoga chant leaders and by sharing his practice of chant, yoga and meditation in workshop, intensive practice, and concert settings. The threads that weave his life's fabric together are devotion, education, and music that embodies a sense of inquiry and commitment to bringing more con-sciousness and compassion into our lives.

David Gluck has been playing music all his life and has worked professionally in New York City, Toronto and abroad since 2001. His infatuation with kirtan music developed shortly after his yoga asana practice listening to wonderful artists played throughout the class. In 2003, David saw the famed Krishna Das, and became one half of the New York based kirtan duo Sounds of She shortly thereafter. He has continued to perform kirtan music ever since.

In addition, in 2003, David became a certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, studying directly under Sharon Gannon and David Life. He has worked professionally as a teacher of Yoga and Dharma since that time, and has taught and led retreats both nationally and abroad. David is thankful for his teachers and friends, fellow musicians and all the yogis in his life through the years.
