ForthePurposeofDevelopingaDeeperPrayerLifeMostPeople,bothChristiansandJews,arenotfamiliarwiththebeautyandgraceoftheWisdomBooksoftheOldTestamentwiththeexceptionofthePsalms.MuchofthisisduetotheirrejectionbytheancientPalestinianJewsbecausesomeoftheseBookswerewritteninGreekratherthanHebreworAramaic,andforotheroddreasons.TheBookswecalltheWisdomliteratureoftheOldTestamentare:Job,Qoheleth,Psalms,Proverbs,SongofSongs,SirachandWisdom.Someofthesehavemorethanonename.TheyusuallyformaseparategroupwithinJewishscripturewheretheyarereferredtoas“thewritings”oraretotallyignored.InChristianscripturetheyformtheirowngroupwithintheOldTestament.Nevertheless,thesesevenbooksareagreatsourcetoinspireprayerandtoformadeeperunderstandingofGod’sloveforHiscreation.Obviously,wecannotgetintothedetailsofeverywordofsevenbookswithinaten-weekcourse,butwehopetogivesomegoodinsightintowhytheBookofJobisconsideredamasterpieceofancientHebrewwritingorwhyQohelethwassopessimisticandthewriterofSongofSongswassooptimistic,andyet,allofthemcaninspireourprayersandmakethemricher.Indeed,theconceptof‘Wisdom’itselfisworthpursuing.Socomeandjoinusforalivelyseriesofdiscussionsontheseinteresting,butseldomunderstood,BooksofbothJewishandChristianscripture.Newmembersareencouragedtoattendandwewelcomeyoutoinvitefamilyandfriends.TheyneednotbemembersofourparishorevenbeCatholic.Allarewelcome.Instructor:MelBarrorWestronglyrecommendthatyoubringyourownBible.Registrationwillbetakenattheendofthe irstmeeting.Afeeof$20willbecharged.Nopre-registrationisnecessary.FormoredetailspleasecalltheParishOf iceat772-4717.
