About Augusta Christian Schools

Building Kingdom Leaders These words are more than just a slogan at Augusta Christian Schools. The writer of Proverbs says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) Psalm 127:1 states, “Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain that build it.” Our desire is to “build up” students in “their most holy faith” and instruct them in mind, body and spirit. Augusta Christian Schools is a community of Christian believers en-gaged not only in education, but in discipleship and spiritual growth. Each teacher, adminis-trator, staff member and board member affirms his or her Christian commitment and faith. Our Vision Statement is “BUILDING KINGDOM LEADERS TO SERVE JESUS CHRIST AS LORD." This vision statement is based on Philippians 2:9-11: "Therefore God also has highly ex-alted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and of those on the earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." You’ve got a lot of big decisions to make. Where do I want my children to go to school? What does he want to be? What will she pursue? Of course, we can’t answer these questions for you, but we can tell you what an Augusta Christian education looks like. All dimensions of excellence are pursued at Augusta Christian in order to develop the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Are you pursuing what we’re pursuing? If so, the answer is easy. Pursue an education at Augusta Christian Schools. It may be one of the best decisions you ever made.

Elementary school is where students first formulate a vision of what life is about. It is Augusta Christian School's purpose to provide a sound academic education with a Christian world-view. Children love to learn! It is our goal to teach them Biblical principles that will give them a foundation for life. We desire to partner with the family in educating the child in mind, spirit and body. One person referred to it as "Kingdom education." It is like planting seeds in fertile ground. While we don't always get to see the harvest of the crop, we do know that God's Word will not return void. Our hope is that we will plant the seed of God's Word in students that will bring a harvest of fruitfulness for years to come! Augusta Christian School takes seriously the responsibility to be a quality school with an instructional program for elementary students that is Biblically centered and encourages the educational growth of each student. All instructional areas are Christ-centered, Kingdom education. Our elementary program is a great place to begin the "Kingdom education" process of planting seeds in fertile ground.

In addition to our program of language arts (which includes Spanish for all elementary students), mathematics, science, social studies and Bible, students participate in special areas. Special classes include physical education, computer, art instruction, music and library. Students in 4th and 5th grades may elect to take chorus and/or band. Augusta Christian Schools offers a half-day and full-day pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program with advanced reading books as well as many visual aids to enhance learning in Bible, phonics, and reading. Developmental activities re-enforce our strong academic program, and Christian curriculum is used in character development and science. Kindergarten students participate in the following special classes: computer, art, music, music theory, library and physical education. Our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program is located at our Fury’s Ferry Road Campus, one-half mile from our main campus.

The Talent Development Program is designed to assist students with a specific learning disability, cognitive or processing difficulties and/or those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (any of the three types). Classes are available for students in grades 1-12 and class sizes range from 5 to 14 students per class, offering low teacher-student ratios and individualized instruction. Our teachers are skilled in their subject areas with additional training in teaching students with special needs. Experienced teaching assistants provide supplemental help to students allowing for more individualized attention. A variety of teaching techniques and learning strategies are utilized, offering students opportunities to build on their strengths, to improve areas of weakness, and to achieve success while enhancing self-confidence. Curriculum designed for students with special learning needs as well as curriculum used in the mainstream elementary, junior high and high school is used in the Talent Development classroom. The Talent Development Program teaches following the Common Core Standards, as taught in our mainstream classrooms and in Georgia public schools. Each student has an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) that is reviewed and adjusted annually to evaluate academic performance and placement. Expectations are individualized, and students are challenged to perform at their full potential. Augusta Christian Schools not only offers academic excellence but also includes a complete

Fine Arts Department, award-winning athletic programs, extra-curricular activities, and the Christian foundation to help students grow academically, socially, physically and spiritually. Talent Development utilizes all available learning experiences to equip students with the skills to succeed in a post-secondary setting, as well as in the workplace. When students show academic progress, we consider placing them into mainstream classes. This is done on an individual basis with recommendations from the Talent Development principal, teachers and the parent. The ultimate goal for students with learning difficulties is to help them to integrate the necessary compensatory skills to become independent, life-long learners. The greater majority of Talent Development students pursue placement in either a four or a two year college, following graduation! The faculty and staff of Augusta Christian Schools are committed to providing students with a high quality education and the spiritual guidance needed to succeed for today and for a lifetime. Scholarship opportunities, as well as financial aid, are available. Please contact the Talent Development Principal, Mrs. Jennifer Montgomery, for information on Augusta Christian’s Talent Development Program at (706) 863-2905, 131 or via email: [email protected].

“Building Kingdom Leaders” through spiritual development goes far beyond a few chapel services and Bible class. It is the essence of all we do, whether in the classroom, on the playing field, in the music room or on a field trip. The goal of every teacher, coach and staff member is to build Kingdom Leaders. Because all truth is God’s truth, we can teach every subject and do all instruction in a way that directs the student’s attention

toward Him. This is what is meant by Biblical integration: integrating the truth of God into all aspects of life at Augusta Christian. We seek to Build Kingdom Leaders spiritually through the following: Conducting daily devotions with prayer in each class

Daily Bible instruction included in the curriculum and Biblical truth inte-

grated in all study areas

Prayer, discipleship and mentoring groups

Weekly chapel services

Spiritual Emphasis Week for secondary students

See You at the Pole and National Day of Prayer rallies

An array of Fine Arts courses and activities are offered to Augusta Christian School students. A commitment to excellence in the arts is evident in our beautiful facility, the Charles B. Whitney Fine Arts Center, as well as the consistent, outstanding performance of our students in both school and community. Fourth through twelfth grade students may participate in the Augusta Christian Band Program with two levels of band instruction. All bands perform in a variety of concerts throughout the year. Private instrument and piano lessons are offered to interested students. Our vocal music program, offered to fourth through twelfth grade students, includes large choral groups as well as smaller ensembles. Choruses perform in a variety of local, regional and state festivals as well as concerts throughout the year. The choral and drama departments perform a Broadway musical each year. Augusta Christian is committed to the values of a well-rounded athletic program which builds kingdom leaders and is, therefore, devoted to the exploration and development of the student’s potential. An individual should experience physical growth and development along with academic and spiritual development. It is for this reason that Augusta Christian offers a program of interscholastic sports designed to: Provide a framework in which students can glorify God with their physical talents and abilities. Provide a unifying activity open to the entire school and community through participation as team

members or as spectators. Provide a vehicle for personal growth and development among students. Assist in the development of relationships with other

schools and communities. Contribute to the development of school spirit. Augusta Christian offers a wide variety of middle school, junior varsity and varsity sports for healthy competition. Those sports include: cross country, football, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, cheerleading, baseball, track, tennis, wrestling and golf. Region and state championships have been won in men’s basketball, baseball, cross country, football, track, wrestling and tennis, and in women’s swimming, basketball, cross country, softball and track. On the national level, our cheerleaders have won numerous titles. Over the years, college scholarships have been awarded to exceptional athletes, and several have signed with professional athletic teams. Student athletes consistently receive area, county and state honors, including Greater Augusta Sports Council bronze, silver and gold medals for athletic excellence. Our modern athletic facilities include a collegiate quality gymnasium and baseball and football fields. An athletic field house with a state-of-the-art weight room was recently completed.

What do a housewife, a computer systems analyst, a pastor, a professional athlete, a business owner and a financial consultant have in common? They are all graduates of Augusta Christian Schools. Beginning with the first graduating class in 1978 until now, Augusta Christian has sent godly men and women into the world and workplace to be Kingdom Leaders. They have attended a variety of colleges and now work in a variety of pro-fessions—making a real difference. The following article was written by 1986 ACS Alumnus, Brad Merry.

“Unless the LORD builds the house,

they labor in vain that build it.”

Psalm 127:1

10

Why ACS? Because of its unforgettable past! I’m often asked, “If you could go back in time...?”

Before finishing their question, I quickly respond, “I would go back to my years at Augusta Christian!” The definitive reply is not because of any regret; rather, it is due to nothing but the fondest of memo-ries. I remember my best friend, Mike Snyder #23. We could have passed for Siamese twins. Whatever he did, I did. Whatever

I did, he did. It is a friendship that I still enjoy today. I remember football, basketball, and baseball trips. I had the best teammates and coaches. We did not always win, but the spirit of competition instilled in me the importance of striving to succeed and doing my best. I remember teachers, too numerous to name, who treated me as part of their family. They not only provided me with a quality education but a Christ-centered foundation on which to build.

Why ACS? Because of its glorious present! My daughter is now a student at Augusta Christian. She is known by her name not by a number. She recites the Christmas story from Luke 2 in front of our church. She says the family blessing and prayer when given the opportunity. She is achieving academic excellence. She is being taught by an administration that focuses on Christian principles. I look at the dignity and class with which organized events are handled. I attend sporting events, and I’m amazed at the sportsmanship of our athletes and the enthusiasm of

our fans. I marvel at the state championships and banners of excellence. All are no less impressive than the performances of our Fine Arts Department. The facilities have been upgraded. The gym has a beautiful wooden floor and the front of the building is no longer a dust bowl. Instead, it is professionally landscaped and maintained. God is so good!

Why ACS? Because of its promising future! Only God knows exactly what’s in store for Augusta Christian, but as I reflect on the past and currently view the present, I look forward with great anticipation to what He is going to do. I could have never imagined just how far the school would come. I also have a young son who attends ACS. I am excited to see him develop in the Godly environment of the school. I’m so anxious to see him play middle line-backer for the football team, point guard for the basket-ball team, and pitch for the baseball team. And, of course, he will only be able to do that as he disciplines himself to work out under Coach Walton in our athletic field house. The vision of the administration, combined with the support of parents and faith in God, will become a reality.

Why ACS? Simply put—I love Augusta Christian Schools and I want to be a part of the winning direction! (Taken from Augusta Christian’s A Closer Look Newsletter.) Brad and his brother, Greg (class of 1987), are owners of Augusta’s historic Merry’s Trash and Treasures.

Augusta Christian School graduates are making a real difference in the world. Come be a part of what God is doing here!

Dear Prospective Parents: Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this information packet about Augusta Christian Schools. In 1958 Augusta Christian Schools began with eight kindergarten students and one teacher. God has truly blessed us through just over five decades of ministry in the CSRA, and each year He has brought many wonderful new families through the doors of our school. We consider it an honor that you are prayer-fully considering Augusta Christian Schools as the academic home for your children. ACS is worth the investment! It is our mission to “prepare students to serve Jesus Christ as Lord, partnering with family and church, instilling high standards spiritually, academically, socially and physically.” That is truly our passion and what drives us. During this period of economic uncertainty we are committed to keeping tuition low while providing the high quality programs and excellence that you would expect from a school like Augusta Christian. It will be a joy to partner with you in the important role of educating your children. The teachers and staff of Augusta Christian Schools take this role seriously and see it more than a job—it is a shared ministry in which we attempt to provide the best possible academic environment integrated with the love and message of Jesus Christ. We look forward to meeting you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions throughout the admission process. May God bless you richly!
