More Than News 0n June 3rd I am beginning a sermon series on the Old Testament. In this study will be looking at how several Old Testa-ment personalities meet God and how God related to them in their historical setting. Let me ask you several questions that might provide you with a hint as to what I will be talking about. How long did they really live during Noah’s time? What civilization in the Bible was the first to develop the following: agricul-ture, animal husbandry, writing, mathemat-ics, sailing on open sea, trading with other cultures, irrigation, founding cities, and or-ganized religion? Who in the Old Testa-ment was in hock to a lone shark? Who in the Old Testament had a personal army of 318 men who defeated four cities? What about all of these covenants? Why were they fascinated by blood? Why did the older bother get every thing? 0The reason we ask these questions about ancient cultures is to find out why and how the people during Old Testament days lived and related to God. Many times their cus-toms and reasoning seems to be totally un-related to today’s world. But if we look into the culture and social fabric of why things were done the way they were done, we can connect our culture and society to-day with the lives they lived. If you miss a Sunday we put the service on CD and you can pick one up at the office. Terry McGuire

Peace & Justice Sunday, June 3, 2012
Half of the Philippines’ 101 million people, and most of its poor, live in depressed rural areas, many barely surviving by farming. They suffer from historic inequality in the distribution of land and resources, re-sulting in high unemployment, hunger, illiteracy and violent conflicts between insurgents and government forces. But United Methodists there are making connections in order to make a difference. A small grant funded by the Peace with Justice Sunday offering helps Filipinos in the Southern Tagalog region build faith-based partnerships to foster solutions to the poverty and injustice that burdens this tiny nation. Through its Just Peace League, the Southern Tagalog Provisional Phil-ippines Annual Conference East teaches youth and adults to struggle alongside communities for justice, economic sustainability and peace. The United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) joined the league at its Kongreso ng Kabataan, or Congress of Youth, in 2011. Bible study, lectures and group activities helped nearly 70 young people become more informed and involved leaders in peace with justice ministry. “It was organized to let our youth have a voice on different issues of our society, especially around agriculture,” reported UMYFP president Angelica Justiniano.
Feeding families around the world...and around the corner.
Anthony Youth Care about World Hunger
On the opposite page you will find a poster of the Anthony Ministerial Alliance endorsed World Hunger. We will be having this work day bagging food at the Christian Church on June 9th. Anyone
and everyone will be able to participate in this Mission project. We would like to know when you can be at the bagging of the food to help this well needed cause. There is a schedule in the South Nar-thex for you to sign up for the time you will be able to represent Anthony United Methodist Church. If you cannot be at the bagging of the food on June 9th a donation is greatly appreciated. $100 will feed one person for one year. Won’t you help us help them? Please help feed families around the world and the corner. If you have any
questions you may call the church office and Connie or Rev. Terry will find the answer for you. This is a community effort and if you have time or can make time to help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Proverbs 28:27 He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. Isaiah 58:10 If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
