Balham has great shopping facilities and plenty of places to work out and
chill out - this is a great place to be.
New shops and restaurants are opening in Balham every month. The
fashionable sourdough pizza restaurant, Franco Manca, opened last year
and the transformed Hildreth Street Market is now home to an independent
wine shop and bijou eateries. Try Lamberts for French fine dining, Poulet
Rouge if you love chicken or Thai & Pickle for a great curry. M1lk is a hip
cafe and the place to be seen for breakfast or lunch. The cosy corners of
The Balham Bowls Club is the place to enjoy a Sunday roast. The Hagen
& Hyde pub has a fabulous atmosphere and an excellent menu, and the
Bedford is busy every night of the week with comedy, theatre and live
music. Party with friends in one of Balham’s stylish cocktail bars – Lost &
Found, The 3 Monkeys or B@1. The Exhibit, in the heart of Balham, is not
to be missed with its bar, diner and cinema – and, in the summer, you can
relax on the large terrace and decked garden.
Eating in? Shop in Waitrose or Sainsbury’s – or at one of the local markets
– Hildreth Street market, the weekly farmers’ market at Cheshunt School,
and the monthly Country Market at Balham Bowls Club all offer fresh
produce and tasty treats.

CLAPHAM & BATTERSEA WITHIN 3 MILES OF BALHAM,
DISCOVER THE DELIGHTS OF CLAPHAM AND BATTERSEA - DESIRABLE DESTINATIONS
AT THE GATEWAY TO THE CAPITAL
Clapham is known for its green space, festivals, fairs and
fireworks, sociable community and wealth of places to eat and
drink. There are several shopping areas including Clapham
High Street, where, on summer evenings, local bars spill out
onto the street. Abbeville Road, with its restaurants and village
feel, is at the hub of the Clapham’s gastronomic delights.
Battersea is swiftly becoming the place to visit – and, from
Balham, you could be in Battersea within just 15 minutes.
Shopping on Battersea’s Northcote Road market is a
delight, with everything from fruit and vegetables to cheese,
flowers, antiques, art and clothes. Whilst you’re shopping
in Battersea, sample the menus in one of Northcote Road’s
many restaurants, steak houses, gastropubs or tapas bars.
Battersea Arts Centre provides a lively programme of theatre,
art, comedy and music – and there’s the annual Battersea
Literary Festival.
The redevelopment of Battersea Power Station is opening up a
new stretch of London’s South Bank with green spaces, stylish
shops, visitor attractions and a new centre for arts and culture.
In fact, a whole new town centre is being built – culturally
stimulating and a remarkable addition to London – and only
about three miles from Aura.
ACTIVE LIVES
NEED GREEN
OPEN SPACES
NEARBY LIVING IN WANDSWORTH, ONE OF LONDON’S GREENEST BOROUGHS, GIVES YOU ACRES OF PARKLAND.
On a cloudless day, head for Clapham
Common with its sports pitches and cafes.
Here, you’ll find people jogging, relaxing on
the grass, picnicking – or enjoying one of the
Common’s many unique festivals: food, art or
music – you choose!
The swathe of the Tooting Commons, between
Balham and Streatham, is a fantastic expanse
of open space made to stretch out in. Tooting
Bec Common is famous for its Lido, the
country’s largest open-air swimming pool,
always popular on sunny summer days. If you
prefer your sports activities on dry land, the
Common also has tennis courts, nature trails
and bridle paths for horse-riders.
At the heart of the 170 acre Wandsworth
Common, with its nature centre, sports pitches
and tennis courts, is the fashionable Skylark
Café, serving excellent food 363 days a year
and just 25 minutes walk from Aura.
Of all London’s parks, the Grade II* listed
Battersea Park is considered to be one of the
most interesting with a host of hidden secrets
and activities. Birdlife lives in and around
the lake and historic and attractive gardens
are found in all corners. The Pump House
Gallery hosts contemporary exhibitions and
the Park is the venue for the annual Decorative
Arts Fair and Affordable Art Fair. There’s
also a children’s zoo, sports facilities and
the landmark Peace Pagoda which, with one
remaining Buddhist monk, is a spiritual centre
where locals and visitors can find peace.
