The Aurorapolku Trail close to the centre of Saariselkä takes you into the lap of nature in the Urho Kekkonen National Park. On Aurorapolku, you can enjoy the midnight sun during the summer. In winter, you can expe- rience the polar nights and get in touch with wintry nature. If the sky is clear, you can admire the starry northern sky or may even see the mag- nificent northern lights, the aurora borealis. The day-trip hut along the trail provides shelter from the frost, snowstorms, rain and mosquitoes and forms an excellent base for nature observation. ROUTE DESCRIPTION The Aurorapolku Trail begins from the Urho Kekkonen National Park’s starting gate in Saariselkä. This circular trail follows the edge of a fell gorge east of the River Luttojoki. You should reserve at least one hour for the excursion. The Au- rorapolku Trail totals 2.1 kilometres. It is maintained throughout the year and is ideal for adults with children. Gravel has been laid on the trail but it is unsuitable for wheelchairs due to its slopes. Because the Aurorapolku is not illuminated, in winter you should take a torch along. You can take the trail in either direction.
