Ireland is a small country in Europe.The area of it is about 70,000 km2.

The country is situated on the island of the same name,

which lies off the west of Great Britain.

The official name of the country is the Republic of Ireland.

The history of the country has not been peaceful. The Irish people had continually to fight for

their land against English invaders.

After the long fight the Irish Free State was created by the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921.

Then its name was changed to Eire in 1937 and to the Republic of Ireland in 1949.

But the northern part of the island, called Ulster, is still a part of the United Kingdom.

The major economic activities include agriculture, farming, fishing…
