Autumn 2, Week 6 (WB: 07/12/20) Theme: Winter & Christmas Learning through play and exploration is integral to everything we do in the EYFS. It is important that we talk to children about what they are doing as communication is key to their development. We share stories every day in class and encourage families to do the same at home. The activities listed below are supplements to the continuous provision we would provide in class. *For the last 2 weeks of term we will be encouraging the children to choose challenges in the classroom, completing activities and worksheets linked to all our learning over the last half-term. Our work will be linked to the themes of Winter & Christmas. The teachers will move around the classroom to support independent work and observe the children’s learning. We will be doing lots of arts and crafts, supporting the children in using new tools and materials.* This week’s stories Stories we will be sharing One Snowy Night By Nick Butterworth In class we have already shared another story, ‘After the Storm’ which was about Percy the Park Keeper and his woodland friends.. We will talk about how Percy shows his kindness and think about ways we could show kindness both in class and at home. Winnie in Winter By Valerie Thomas We will work on making predictions. After sharing the start of the story, What do we thing Winnie is going to do with her magic wand? We will talk about why all the animals woke up and how this makes Winnie feel. Mrs Lehner’s Group- s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k Mrs Lehner’s Group will continue to work on recognising these sounds in writing and in spoken words. The children will be invited to draw a picture of themselves in their favourite season, perhaps playing outside in a paddling pool, going to the park in the summer sunshine or maybe building a snowman! Some children will add words or a sentence to their picture. L.O. I can talk about the changing of the seasons. I can share my ideas with a group. I can use words linked to the seasons of summer and winter. L.O. I can use drawings to communicate ideas about my favourite season. I can annotate my pictures with labels. + I can write a sentence about my favourite season.

Maths Nursery

In the classroom we will use the computer (interactive whiteboard), Christmas tree cut outs in the ‘Fine motor’ area and Christmas tree templates in the Creative area to work on using tools and

materials to decorate our own Christmas trees.

L.O. I can take turns to play a game. I can share resources with my friends.

Working with an adult and others, the children will be shown how to play a variety of games including ‘Decorate the tree’ which involves counting out baubles and adding or subtracting as you move around the board and a

traditional game of pairs linked to different Christmas objects. We will use this as a chance to practise vocabulary linked to our topic.

L.O. I can use a range of tools and equipment to improve my

fine motor skills.

In the classroom we will use pegs and tweezers (alongside pencils for

writing/drawing and scissors for cutting) and threading to build up the strength in our hands.

Don’t forget: It’s really important to practise recognising and writing your name every day.
